I guarantee that the iPhone 5 will not have LTE or NFC. Of course, people will say that Apple is "saving" these features for the next-to-next iPhone in order to make it seem innovative, but there is a rational basis for leaving out LTE and NFC.

Right now, NFC has not seen much adoption. I think Apple wants to wait until there's more adoption of NFC. If Apple puts NFC in the iPhone, it's going to be nothing more than just a feature that nobody really cares about. Google is the opposite. The same is true for LTE. The network is not very extensive. It's still a very fledgling technology. More importantly, there are significant issues with power consumption with LTE chips.

As for what I'd like to see, I'd like to see an improvement to Maps. Most importantly, Apple should stop using Google's backend database and use the database that they got from the acquisitions of Placebase and Poly9. I'm not that concerned about making turn-by-turn a native feature of iOS since there are plenty of apps that can do that. It's more important for Apple to completely get away from Google's services. Apple should dump Google altogether and avoid giving them opportunities to data-mine information and earn revenue off of iOS users. Apps like Google, Google Voice, and Google+ are fine since users can choose to download them, but Apple itself should not use any of Google's services.

I think with the delay, the end result should be more than a mere spec bump.

I am thinking:

-A5
-more ram
-indicator light
-better cameras, front and back
-larger screen(although not gigantic like some android powered devices)
-new design(possibly similar looking as the 4 but different materials)
-bigger/better battery

However, it is possible that they delayed the iPhone in order to milk more sales out of the current model, especially with the white 4 coming out so late.

If this is the case...

-a5
-more ram
-better cameras
-indicator light

Heres a question:

do you guys actually prefer a LED flash indicator light? I feel that its a bit too bright and something like what the blackberries have would be easier on the eyes.

So no YouTube either?

Apple won't use LTE . Most countries don't have it.. And maps things. It's os related. If iOS 5 has it it's not going to change.

To the guy who said android dwarfs the iPhones..
Well they are still androids and an iPhone is well an iPhone :)

I have the 3GS right now. I am very sick of it and cannot wait until the next iPhone comes out.

What I want:
- A5 processor
- More memory
- Better camera (3GS sucks)
- LED light for camera
- bigger screen

What would be awesome:
- lie detector
- smoke grenade feature
- invisibility shield

Can't believe no one has said this but I NEED 64gb. I'm getting tired of having to pick and choose WHAT to put on my phone.

The sluggish performance of the 3G was enough reason for most users to upgrade to the 3GS. The 3G was actually aggravating to use after awhile.

My iPhone 4 works pretty well. I don't believe there is a minor change they can make here that would make me feel like I need to upgrade.

I believe this is many people's thoughts as well. They will sell plenty well enough regardless of what they do, but the way Android has been stepping up with premium devices, the game has changed. It would be rather ballsy to try another 'S' move, and while it won't kill them, it will cause many of the 'tech-geeks' out there (see: many of us who read this forum and all of the other iPhone forums) to look elsewhere for something new.

The sad reality is that if the iPhone had NFC, it would actually help launch the technology into the stratosphere. iPhone users are historically spenders (see income from App Store and iTunes on the phones). Put in a feature like this, market it well, and watch vendor after vendor line up to take advantage.

It should be realised in september with the iPods, because with the iPod touch you always knew it would just be the iPhone without the phone and there was really no surprise

Agreed, I need 64GB as well—my 32 was completely full and I had to downsample my music collection to get it back from barely being functional. Even still, the 3GS is showing its age, I get crashes, freezes, hiccups, and very sluggish performance constantly.

I agree that 64 would be great. My 3GS is rock solid, however, I kept it on iOS3and just JB to get the features I wanted. Its still feels very speedy.

^^This. And I expect this is exactly what Apple will do (but call it a '5' either way), giving people with the iPhone 4 very little reason to upgrade, but more reason to look elsewhere.

Bigger Screen with NO INCREASE in device size

Would LOVE a slimmer profile ... like the one below

Slimmer, yes. But not like THAT.

I really dislike the fat to thin thing, looks like a MBA.

Make it thin from top to bottom then yes. And get rid of that terrible looking home button. I think it will stay the same, it's sort of the "icon" of the iPod Touch/iPhone/iPad line, besides the Apple logo. :D

If you base it off beta releases, it just possible could be released in a month. I'm hoping for an all new design, PLEASE ditch the iPhone 4 design, I really don't feel like hearing antennaegate bullcrap again.

Wow, we could potentially have three more months of this. I'm slowly but surely starting not to give a damn. I've got a 3gs, so I'll be getting whatever it is, but it's becoming a serious bore waiting and speculating.
QFT! This is my issue at the moment as well. It's been very, very hard waiting. I know they're being so tight lipped about it after what happened with the iPhone 4, but come on already! Just show us the damn phone! >(

If this is announced, I'll buy it in a heartbeat

Minus the LTE; it just seems unlikely (and I want to keep my unlimited 3G )

A really boring keynote since iOS5 has already been done, so there will be barely anything to mention

The real question is "can early iPhone 4 adopters purchase the iPhone 5 at the discounted rate?"
