Well, I'd say out of all of the posts in this thread, yours back in late March pretty much nailed it with respect to what was coming in 2016 for the RMB. You must work for Apple;--) I'm glad I took advantage of the $999 deal from B&H on the base 2015 model back in January.

2016 model is much better machine (if one usb c and 480p is enough for you). But your unit is not bad at all, and you have saved 300$.

The next gen apple can make a 14" macbook with 2 ports since kaby lake has by default the thunderbolt 3 support

The performance has officially surpassed my 2013 Air, which I'm still rocking as my main machine after 952 days of life and 1212 battery loadcycles.
I hate the screen on this thing, but it is SO good at getting work done. Also I think that I'd miss some of the missing features (camera, ports) and I'd like a slight power increase instead of breaking even.
The resale value on a 2013 is so damn good, but on the other hand I have no clear upgrade path.
I would be happy paying 1000€ for this (it's 1499 from Apple, possibly 1200€ discounted) or waiting for a 2016 rMBP (current one is 1699 from Apple, 1400 discounted for a 256GB).

What were you expecting? For an update, this one is actually better than most.
At the very least, they could have updated the 480p camera. No reason why any Apple product should have a 480p camera. It actually boggles my mind why they wouldn't update something so simple on this refresh... I guess they'll bring a 720p camera next year and pat themselves on the back for the amazing innovation.

So basically these MacBooks are like a v6 with a supercharger going up against an old v10 engine, they can match the v10 but overheat quicker and have to power down

From what I understood of an optical engineer's post on Reddit, there's not enough room/space between the optics and the sensor. There's so little only 480p works at the moment. I'm sure they are working on a private solution to that, but no off-the-shelf solutions exist at the moment aside from making the display side thicker.

I had a mid-2012 11" MBA as my main computer until yesterday. The 2016 rMB is such a better machine. Eventually I will pick up a USB-C adapter that will let me use USB, HDMI, etc. but honestly...I use this as a stand-alone device 99% of the time.

Good analogy but bad assumption– there's a reason Ferrari is using turbo V8's now and not V12's...

Ferrari use for their mid segment V8 and for their top V12. They always did. There isn't any law. Its just moving with the times. More power to lower emissions and lower fuel consumption

A little clarification: Ferrari (and Porsche in the 911 and Boxter/Cayman/718) are going turbo specifically due to the emissions and fuel consumption regs, while still trying to keep or increase their historically high levels of performance.
