Hopepfully they would if they made a larger model. But who knows if that will happen, what with releasing the non-Touch Bar 13" MBP.
It's Apple. It's 2016, the year when you can buy an iPhone and a Macbook (pro) and not be able to connect them with a cable without separate purchase. It is entirely possible they will release a 13" model with two headphone jacks.

I'm very tempted to buy a two-headphone-jack-MacBook. Wishing you did not raise false hope... it just fits so well into :apple:-courage ;)

After what they just released, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the following for the next version of rMacBook:

  • Slower than the previous model
  • No ports
  • No FaceTime camera
  • No keyboard, just an enormous trackpad
  • No Touch Bar
  • Poorer battery life
  • Display requires a dongle
  • Thinner

I jumped the waiting ship and ordered an Asus UX330CA fanless kaby lake m3. About half the price of an entry level rMB.

My guess is that the rMB will receive a silent bump to kaby lake in early 2017 but I do not think there will be a price drop by then. I think the big realignment will come with the next update of the MBP late 2017 or early 2018 with price drops across the macbook range and perhaps some axing of legacy obsolete models.

I actually hope they make a slightly smaller model as well.

If they have a lineup of 11.6" and 13.3", straddle the difference with the current 12.1; that would be great. The smaller model would be like 1.6 - 1.7 lbs, and the larger model 2.5 lbs. This would be justifiable to have alongside the MBP range. The 11.6 would absolutely be the king of portability, basically the size and weight of a clipboard.

I agree that would be nice. With bezel-less designs, 13" laptops are quite small. And it would also add room for a touchbar in the rMB.

Possible but unlikely move IMO.

Yes; the only thing I can see is Apple wanting to continue to trim down their lineup. Once the Air dies though, they will need a lower entry price point for the MB, which I think an 11.6" would fill very well, like the 11" MBA did in the past. And the 13.3" should be able to keep the current pricing structure, and should be the majority of the purchases.

The KB of the 11.6" will also be about as wide as the 12.1", given that the screen will likely go to 16:9 aspect ratio, so the laptop will be less deep, and a smidge thinner at the back, with less space for the speakers. Otherwise, it would pretty much be identical to the current model, but be yet significantly more portable.

My predictions:
-Kaby Lake
-Faster SSD
-2133 MHz ram
-Gen 2 butterfly keyboard
-Brighter wider colour gamut display
-Matte black colour option to spice it up a bit (I hope :p)

The wider color gamut and second gen keyboard are indeed good. I think Apple will only do it if it doesn't compromise its current design and no reengineering is needed to accommodate all new parts. Otherwise spec the same update as we had with the 2016 model.

I'm interested in knowing battery gains with Kabylake. In fact, I'm not sure if Kabylake is a better jump from Skylake (specs wise) compared to Broadwell to Skylake.

It is this Kaby update that is having me wait, plus the charm of a 5-year-proof P3 display. I keep my laptops for at least 5 years, so I want the best display possible even if that means waiting just 4 more months. Although, I am very, very inclined to just go and pick one up.:mad:

Oh! And thunderbolt 3. Which would make it a solid refresh overall.

It is! But that patience currently weighs 2.54 kilos. Impatience will weigh just 920 grams. ;)

P3 display is all about colours, so that is still okay with me, I *might* be able to let go of it this time around. I am on non-retina right now, so that retina screen is still. huge upgrade for me.

But Kaby Lake improvements will mean a more heat-controlled system, perhaps? That is very important considering the fanless design and my location being India, where summers are about 40 degrees Celsius average now.

It is a painful, excruciating wait.

You should really just wait for cannonlake in 2018! :p

Although by then OLED displays on MacBooks would probably be just around the corner, so you'd want to wait till 2019.... Except the MacBook design will be 4 years old by then and due a redesign so you'll naturally want to wait till that's released... :D

We like to be torture by the pace of change in technology... so fast, yet so slow !

i dont need OLED display until samsung/lg etc don't figure out how to make the panels last longer without burn-in...remember on mobile devices like iphone/ipad you use the display a lot less than on our desktop/laptop. So after 1 year of use, i wonder how our OLED panels will look like

Has anyone seen benchmarks of the kaby lake chip vs the skylake chip?

The CPU portion of Kaby Lake is identical to Skylake. So - at the same clock rate, it'll have exactly the same performance. However, KL can clock a little bit higher. The GPU is also similarly identical. Kaby Lake's only functional difference is support for additional video formats.
