The CPU portion of Kaby Lake is identical to Skylake. So - at the same clock rate, it'll have exactly the same performance. However, KL can clock a little bit higher. The GPU is also similarly identical. Kaby Lake's only functional difference is support for additional video formats.
And tb3 native, and that is good to finaly get it

One month ago I bought the new Asus Zenbook 3. It's insane what they did with the same footprint and with less weight.
And it's sad how it compares to the price and the performance of my Macbook 2016 (m5 512 GB and 8 GB RAM).

Almost 200 USD less and I have one i7 Baby Lake, 512 GB (I upgraded to 1 TB by myself), and 16 GB ram.

Considering Microsoft is considering moving over to ARM for the Surface Pro.
What are the chances that Apple might consider using an AX ARM chip in the 3rd gen, along with perhaps OLED displays, that should surely maximize power and battery. Could easily replace the Air with the specs of the AX chip and battery life.
Your thoughts people?

I'd buy that. Mind, at Air price, not Pro price. I couldn't resist, out of curiosity.

I am so optimistic about the refresh of the 12" MacBook, that I am contemplating returning my non-touch rMBP and waiting. Am I crazy?

Don't forget it's Apple we're talking about and the refresh might happen in December 2019.

MacBook a long with the air are probably Apples most popular products, I am certain they will update it Spring 2017, maybe Summer at latest (just due to OLED yield rates, if they do go that way!)

...and look how many updates Air has been receiving recently ;)

It did get an 8GB RAM update :) and the new rMBP non-touch, is pretty much the retina version of the Air (and by Apple's own admission, is the Air replacement). They didn't have to make a non-touch bar version, but I bet they did for the Air crowd, so it is still something right.

You are right. Spring should bring a Kaby Lake rMB with a TB3 sincle USB-C port. This will allow Apple to maintain the high price and add features while enhancing battery life significantly.

It will become the de facto MBA substitute as the lightest MacBook around.

the macbook will get the cpu upgrade...thats it...no design change, no OLED...we dont want oled display into a monitor/laptops until the burn-in issues are not resolved
[doublepost=1482270884][/doublepost]but i hope from next year, every mac/ios device to gain bluetooth 5

"For a 2016 MacBook update, some Apple engineers wanted to add a Touch ID fingerprint scanner and a second USB-C port (which would have made some power users happy). The update instead included a new rose gold color option alongside a standard speed increase."
There is something so bitter about this paragraph, innit.

Also I have now seen this Bloomberg link at least 20 times. It's a very good article but I think the only people who haven't read it work at Apple on managerial positions.

Since Apple, at the event make an requiem of the functions keys, i think the future is the touchbar..so i think the Macbook should get this too...since its an consumer product and makes even more sense

New slogan: "It costs an ARM and a leg!"

ARM processor, TouchBar, prices from €1599 upwards. 0.5 mm thinner, FaceTime camera at 240p.

Oh sorry, that was my uncle Scrooge. Uncle, I TOLD you not to use my laptop!!!

The second generation butterfly keyboard, fastest m* processors Intel comes up with in the meantime, price drop. Hopefully 14" size.

So I think it's safe to assume that (sadly) WE SHOULD NOT TO EXPECT 16GB RAM option on the 3rd generation Kaby Lake MacBook as the processor that succeeds the Core m3 Apple uses on the lower end MacBook model has the same memory specs as the Skylake currently in use:

Current MacBook Skylake Core m3 (m3-6Y30): http://ark.intel.com/products/88198/Intel-Core-m3-6Y30-Processor-4M-Cache-up-to-2_20-GHz?q=Intel® Core™ m3-6Y30 Processor (4M Cache, up to 2.20 GHz)
Next potential MacBook Kaby Lake Core m3 (m3-7Y30): http://ark.intel.com/products/95449/Intel-Core-m3-7Y30-Processor-4M-Cache-2_60-GHz-

If Apple said they wouldn't offer 32GB on the MacBook Pro because of DDR3 power consumption I guess they wouldn't put 16GB on an even smaller machine if there are no changes in memory specs for the next gen MacBook CPU...

yes, for a Macbook client i bet the battery is more important than a 16gb RAM ! with kaby lake i would love to see 1h more and have a 11h Macbook usage than 16gb RAM...and that native TB3 will be nice too

They will probably add the touch bar (it's ok). They HAD BETTER add another port on the other side (there's room with the headphone jack, if you move that up).

1) touch bar (who cares :D )
2) added port
3) thunderbolt 3
4) improved screen a little
5) Baby Lakes cpu
6) other stuff.
