The X-Files series is being rereleased starting Jan 31st, 2006. You might wait until then to get them. They are being released cheaper so you'll save some coin. I believe content wise they're the exact same though.

eh? When they started coming out they retailed for $125/season but I could always find a sale for about $99. I was able to finish the series at about $40 a season like most shows. odd...

The Mighty Boosh
Black Books
Spaced

There - three relatively unheard of, but quality, British comedies. Buy them.

Qoxiivi

Will add my vote for all of the above, particularly Spaced - probably my favourite comedy series.

Plenty of other good stuff mentioned on this thread, but one show that really struck me over the last few years was Six Feet Under. Intelligent, funny and profound.

I second (or third, fourth, whatever) the following shows:

24 (my absolute favorite)
Scrubs
Simpsons
Futurama (Groening Rocks!)

Correct. You can sometimes find them on sale now for $40-$50 regularly on the internet. However at the end of January I believe < $40 will become the standard price for the rerelease.

A few goodies that haven't been mentioned yet:

Red Dwarf
Mission Hill
Undeclared
Freaks and Geeks
Arrested Development
Stargate SG1

I picked up 24 seasons 1-3 on black friday, they were $19.99 each from Best Buy.

Even thought I've seen all the seasons before, I can never get enough of watching them, because as you rewatch you react to different things each time. So much fun.

Also, if the show House is on DVD, I would get that to.

House rocks... but they didn't make it anamorphic widescreen on the DVD's so it actually looks *worse* on a widescreen TV than on a standard TV... go figure... I e-mailed them about it about a week after it came out but they never got back to me... *grrr*

Battlestar Galactica, Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis

and what the hell do you have against anime, this worlds second greatest thing next to SF
Anime is strange, it doesn't make any sense. This isn't just my opinion, Strong Bad thinks so too:

But back on topic, All of the good ones have been said already:
The Simpsons
South Park
BlackAdder (See Hugh Laurie when he was a real actor, before he was in that moronic "House" show)
Red Dwarf

Ya house is the best show on TV, should pick it up and rip it to my Mac

The one show I saw mentioned once is "Dead Like Me" If you have never seen it, or heard of it, It was a showtime series about being a grim reaper. Really funny tho.

The other show I highly reccomend is "The Shield" Gritty cop drama at its finest. I had seasons one and two already and picked up season 3 at BestBuy on black friday for 19.99.

These are a few of my favorite shows

Angel (I don't own it yet because I'm waiting for a boxed set hopefully)

I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. As much as I love this series I doubt it will get the one big expensive box treatment that Buffy and Sex in the City recently got. It's just not popular enough.

After the NCIS mini-marathon on CBS last night I'm even more hungry for this series on DVD. All I seem to hear lately is how suprised the critics are that NCIS pulls in the number of views that it does. So where are the DVDs already. We're on season 3 now. So give us season 1&2 already  .

TV shows to get on DVD

Top pick definitely Queer as Folk - never gets old...never...might have even surpassed my love for my favorite show of all time, Sex and the City (which for a girl is just blasphemy I know and incidentally I own all seasons of that as well). The L Word Season 1 is a good buy too. Only other TV shows I have on DVD are out of print or ones I picked up on ebay. Friday the 13th the series, The Wonder Years, My So-Called Life but whenever I get around to it I will definitely pick up The Simpsons, Prison Break will be a must have as soon as the season finishes and the DVD comes out, CSI (the original) would be a good buy (trying to think of things I'd actually watch), oh and Desperate Housewives Season 1 (season 2 is rather disappointing), Seinfeld, 24, Dead Like Me (was sorry to see that go). Dream pick would be my fav show as a child...Rags to Riches. When oh when will they ever bring that out on DVD?

Red Dwarf - smeg, can't think of a funny quote
Farscape - Just started watching this in syndication in the fall. Man is it good. So far I've only seen season 1. There are 4 seasons and it ended with a miniseries.
Another vote for these two shows... two of my absolute favorites (most of the rest of which I also recoomend)... :)

Cannot wait for Red Dwarf season VIII to come out... February just seems so far away...
