I received the second generation iPod mini in green as a birthday gift a few months prior to the release of the iPod nano. I remember thinking I looked so uncool using my iPod mini when everybody else had iPod nanos! Nowadays things are quite different. I only actively used it for about a year and a half before upgrading to the 5.5 generation iPod in black. I was absurdly careful with it because I didn't want it to get covered in fingerprints and scratches. I used it until I upgraded to the first generation iPod touch 16 GB upon release in 2007. I was so impressed by the iPhone, but I was on contract with Sprint and couldn't switch to AT&T.
In early 2010, Sprint made a change to their terms of use which gave me a loophole to break out of my contract. Originally I wanted to wait until the iPhone 4 to upgrade, but I had to abruptly switch to AT&T in order to make use of the contract loophole. I bought an iPhone 3GS in black, 32 GB. I used my 5.5G iPod concurrently until I lost it later that year, which was replaced by a third generation iPod touch 32 GB that I received as a gift. I used both the iPod touch and iPhone 3GS until the release of the iPhone 4S in 2011. Since I had an iPod touch, I only got a 16 GB iPhone 4S which proved to be
way too limited by the time I upgraded. At some point during this time, I bought a 1G iPod nano and had it replaced by Apple and I received a shiny new 6G iPod nano 8 GB in silver... which I later dropped, cracked, and ultimately lost. I loved that iPod nano so much! I was so disappointed when I lost it and I paid full price to replace it with a graphite 6G iPod nano 16 GB. Of course, these days I don't really listen to music on the go so it's just collecting dust in my desk.
I bought the first generation iPad mini in black upon release in 2012, but I decided I didn't use it enough to justify the expense and I returned it. I expected to upgrade to the eventual Retina model, but I never did...
I switched to Windows Phone in 2013. I was disheartened by the unveiling of iOS 7 and started to lose my enthusiasm for Apple's newer products. I picked up a fifth generation iPod touch with the intention of keeping it on iOS 6 forever, but the screen got damaged and it got replaced by AppleCare with an iOS 7 model. I bought a refurbished fourth generation iPod touch 16 GB later on since it's one of the few devices that can run iOS 6 but not any later versions. I also bought a refurbished iPod mini, this time with LTE (and still with iOS 6!) which I continue to use. I briefly owned an iPhone 4 after I lost my Windows Phone, but I gave it away after I bought a new phone.
Here's my full list of products. Unless noted, I still own the device:
