Will wait for the 14inch MBP, which will replace my 2020 Air which I bought as a stopgap.

The rumored 14" MBP is an attractive form. Of course, the final tests are how it performs on the apps I need to run ( Adobe CC, Office 365, Visual Studio, XCode, Android Studio) and how it works with the devices I use (4K Sony A7 and USB A based Audio interfaces).

I've been planning to replace my aging 2011 27" iMac with a Mini for a couple of years now, waiting for it to finally die. I think the fact that it keeps plugging away is a sign from the FSM that I am to wait for the ARM Mini to appear.

Those who don’t update definitively don’t worth it at all.

The good ones will get updated and pretty soon since the effort to make them ARM capable are minimal.
And for personal use that might be enough. I’m sure Affinity will be there on day 1. But if you require the entire Adobe CC suite, it doesn’t matter whether Affinity is there one day 1.
I have tons of scientific software that I absolutely require for work and I doubt they will all be updated even within let’s say two years.

So for personal use I’ll definitely buy the 1st product released. But for work I’ll stick with Intel for a couple of years.

Oh, and virtualizing Windows is also necessary for my work...

It was going to be the 13” MBP but after thinking of the large performance boost we will get, I am thinking the Air will fit my needs assuming cooling is no longer an issue. Mostly edit video at 1080p and do 3D modeling so from the keynote running on a a12z it seems like I would be set with a 1tb 16gb Air. Plus no touchbar which is a huge bonus

How long before Mac Pro desktop gets one? I wanted to buy the $6000 desktop for next 10 years but doesn’t seem like a good idea? Are they just going to cut off people that spend a lot of money on them. Now ?? What about the ones paid like 20-30 grand for one?

Which softwares do you use?

iMac pending price and performance. Lucky I don’t have any particular software needs, everything I would use is going to be natively compiled so compatibility won’t be an issue. Keen to see what it can do and also a refreshed design of the iMac.

Seems like softwares backed by companies. They might run through Roseta at first, but will likely be updated to run natively.
One of the software I relied on (by a huge life company) is still 32 bit, hence I cant run it anymore since I’m on Catalina. Now the only way for me to run it is through windows virtualization.

Mac apps isn’t a huge priority by all companies :(

It’s sad :(

Well then I think you are working on your last mac :(

Intel Mac and Windows 10 in Parallels is actually very nice. I have a 2017 iMac 27" with SSD and its freaking awesome. I don't think I'll need a new work computer in many many years.

Definitively.

Even my Late-2013 MacBook Pro 15 (maxed out) is still doing fine 7 years after I bought it. That's pretty incredible for a computer. And I wouldn't feel the need to change it that much if the battery wasn't swelling inside of it (I ask it too much for a laptop sometimes ... I'm ML engineer).

I'll buy when it's in an ultra-portable form factor, something similar to the 12" MacBook. Since reports now are that the first ARM devices to come won't get redesigns, I'm hoping for something in 2021, because the Air isn't an ultra-portable, it's not noticeably smaller than a 13" MBP.

The Air. My mid 2013 13" Pro is on it's last legs. While it functions fine it is super super slow. I've mostly converted to a 12.9" iPad with the intention to completely transition. But there are things I still really like a notebook for. That said, I havent tried the magic keyboard yet either. But at the end of the day my usage is pretty lightweight consumer stuff. Heaviest lifting is video editing which my 2018 iPad Pro does easily.

To no one's surprise... a mac mini! I am in no need of a new system, so possibly a 2nd gen mac mini with AS. Looking forward to seeing how well these systems perform with AS, definitely exciting times ahead.

Mention earlier but want to add on..

14" MBP with mini led, and come on apple.. do something about the anti-glare coating.. it better not have issue when redesign mbp is out..

I think mine will be a mini because I just love them. In a bit of a quandry right now since I was planning to get a mini just before WWDC, but now with Big Sur & the move to ARM, it's kinda thrown my plans out the window. I'll definitely wait until after Big Sur is released before buying, so that it comes pre-installed and I don't want to go through an update from Catalina or do a fresh install.

I know Apple probably can't let us know what comes first, but when I saw the dev mini, I felt like, "yes, please make this the first ARM Mac you release", but now with the rumours of it being a MacBook, I need to weigh up whether to just go for an intel mini if there's no ARM mini released this year. Just wish I knew if one was coming this year. Tricky times to buy a Mac.

Good point on waiting for Big Sur to come pre-installed...

In regards to the very first consumer Apple Silicon product; I feel it will either be a laptop or an all-in-one (iMac). Why? Because the very first Mac product was an all-in-one, with attached monitor. With that, the iMac would seem the obvious choice; Classic Macintosh -> Apple Silicon iMac

But! There could be an argument made for a laptop, as more & more of the consumer computing world today is about compact & portable...

I just hope, when the new Apple Silicon Mac mini does come out, Apple has new Apple displays to go with.
