What I have now (2008 Accord Coupe EX-L) <==> What I'll be buying next (BMW M5)
Now that's a huge step up. You'll love the performance of the M5. I drove one at the BMW Performance Center when I took the M Driving School. You should do that school too. It's a blast and you learn a lot.

At this point, our next car would be a Civic Hybrid.

Now that I wouldn't mind the M5, though! :D

We're going to keep our current car (2000 VW Cabrio) until it disintegrates a la the police cruiser in The Blues Brothers. We've only put about 71,000 miles on it, but it's been through more than its fair share of annoying repairs that I'm fairly certain would not have happened with a Honda or a Toyota.

Maybe your VW experience will silence Mindflux, "Opinion standpoint i'd stay away from anything Frisco says.

Do you have any experience with this or are you just spouting off? I've had 5 VW's and none of them had reliability issues.

My 08 GTI, which granted is just 3 months old is terrific."

VWs suck!!!

The guy has had 5 VWs and no reliability issues, I think he's allowed to say that and recommend a VW, just like you can say they suck and to avoid them

Add me to the "I love my VW and would recommend one to someone else" club.

So how do you like the 2008 Accord Coupe? I was thinking about getting one. Is yours a V6?

yeah its a nice car and gets you many onlookers and gawkers. Looks better in real than in snaps or videos. Huge inside and pretty powerful engine too. Mine is a 4 cylinder AT @190 hp, enough for stop n go San Diegan traffic. Let me know if u want to know more before u seriously think of getting one.

given a chance I would love it !! A big fan of BMW 6/7 as well but seems like I won't be able to afford one unless i do something drastic to increase my net worth.

There's nothing like an M car. I have an M3 and everytime I get in and turn the engine over I feel good, no matter how the day has been up to that. :D

Right now I have an '04 Sentra so I will keep it nice and clean until I graduate and look into one of the below ;)

new Lotus Elise or around a '96 Porsche Twin Turbo mmm

My 2000 Toyota Tundra is holding up pretty well with only 140K miles on it. I hope it'll keep running for another decade. When I have to get another vehicle, it'll be another Tundra or maybe a Tacoma if I decide to downsize to a V6.

Three (yes, THREE) of my co-workers VWs have been lemoned, two Toueregs and a Jetta. If that doesn't speak for itself I don't know what does. I have two other friends who own VW products and they are also a reliability nightmare. One is a MKV GTI and another is a 2003 A4 and both have more electrical issues, rattles, and mechanical trouble than even worth dealing with.

Good luck with your GTI, you will need it. :(

EDIT: I am not trying to offend anyone, I am just stating what I know about VW products.

My next car will be a 2008 Acura TL-S with the 6 speed or a used MB E550. I have had three Acura vehicles and two Hondas. With over 200K combined I have never had a single mechanical or electrical issue with all of them. If I get the MB I am prepared for some issues! :p

We had a jetta in the family - did NOT last long. It was a great car to drive but a maintenance nightmare.

I've had it with cars that start to become unreliable after 100K miles. My next "car" is definitely going to be a Honda (CRV or maybe a Pilot). Something to hold all the crap I haul around that will last 300K miles or more.

Currently I drive a VW Golf TDI. It's a nice car, but a little dull. The build quality isn't that good considering what I paid for it, and the dealers are dreadful. So I *might* change next year.

Problem is: there aren't really many cars I like. The Lexus IS200 is too expensive (and I don't like the interior) and the Lotus Exige is even more expensive (and I'd be dead in a week). The Chrysler 300 is stunning but too big. The Volvo C30 is a bit meh and the Mazda 3 MPS/Mazdaspeed 3 is a bit too boy racer for me.

So, at the moment, there are only two cars on my shortlist:

Mini Cooper S (I had a Cooper before and loved it):

Alfa Romeo Mi.To (subject to me liking it in the flesh, has to be that colour and with those wheels):

Using a toyota Aygo at the mo, and since Ken Livingston(London's mayor) decided to waive the congestion charge on cars that pollute less than 120 grams of co2 per KM, I'll get another one as soon as this one turns 3...LOL

It really is an awesome little car, super solid, and I barely go through a tank of petrol every 2 or 3 weeks.

I want to see one in real life too, I'm undecided about it at the moment. (I wonder if they'll do a ti or a GTA version...)
There is only one colour for Alfas and that's Alfa Red.

the solstice coupé/targa is definitely growing on me. but i think what i really want is a diesel manual version with more trunk space.

...and the Lotus Exige is even more expensive (and I'd be dead in a week)....
I think I've now seen two mentions of the Lotus Elise/Exige (same basic car)

As an FYI, this car is NOT a daily driver, and was never intended to be. You would hate it on your first trip to the grocery store. It's an exercise just to get in and out of it. It has no ammenities to speak of. In terms of comfort, Raw is what I would use to describe it.

However, as a weekend track car it doesn't get much better. That's really what it's designed for.

My wife said she wanted one, until she actually saw the cockpit.

I bought a Toyota FJ Cruiser within a few months of it's release. It has been such a god purchase, I would likely consider its update within 1-3 years.

What I have now (2008 Accord Coupe EX-L) <==> What I'll be buying next (BMW M5)

When you get the M5, can I have the Accord?

Me like those very much.

As for my car? Older Honda. About eleven years older. Take a 1997 Accord, for example. Then put a van body on top of its frame. Yes, that's closer. Then paint that van body...purple.

Yes, that's it. A 1997 Honda Odyssey, purple. Its got an Accord engine in it, read a 4-cylinder:eek:. So its rather slower than an Accord.

Insurance shall be cheap, considering it'll be a sixteen year old boy driving it. Much better than the black V6 powered top-of-the-line(well, for 2001) sport compact that was my other choice.

I've been watching The Sweeney a lot recently, so I quite fancy an early '70's Ford Consul GT. :D If it weren't for the 19mpg economy of course. :(
