Small White Car is actually correct. I would actually say Verizon is the most controlling with their Blackberries and other smart phones. Verizon actually has Wifi disabled on all the Blackberries they sell so people are forced to use the data network. ;)

True, but it doesn't matter because I agree with the opinion that a Verizon iPhone wouldn't suffer from any of that. Apple wouldn't stand for it.

So I'm not worried that a Verizon iPhone will be crippled...I'd just be uncomfortable being the sole "normal phone" on a network full of people with crippled phones without Wi-Fi. It'd be like being the guy in the prison cafeteria who gets the extra piece of cake.

Sure, you've got the cake, but everyone else hates you. Not a pretty picture.

Like apple said, that moving to a CDMA network would seem like a step backwards, because it would limit the global capabilities. Unless Verizon magically changed to GSM. :D

Exactly. Like when they switch from their America's Choice II plans to the Nationwide plans all they changed was billing data per Megabyte instead of it deducting from airtime allowance. But hey, they are a business. I would do the same thing.

i agree at look at the situation in the USA, does anyone want to spend more on a phone service?

+1, it will be a backwards move for apple and they wont tolerate it, think of it like this apple going back to there first macbook, come on now

They are. Well, not exactly. But the AT&T 4G and the Verizon 4G are going to be pretty much the same thing (a standard that evolved from GSM), so the technical difficulties of having 2 different iPhones will be greatly lessoned..

im full of crap, how do you figure, why dont you read the threads, why dont you look at macrumors main page, theres a new article/rumor about verizon and the iphone...

thank you very much :D
Verizon employees get free service. I just switched from Verizon recently and my ATT bill is MORE expensive. Hows the Koolaid tasting?

4g for both networks will run the same. how would we really know... one 4g network will come out first then the other 4g network will come out later but it will fix anymistake that were found, it takes time to get something right or close to perfect, not even perfect it will just run better

free service thats a laugh, we had someone just say they onyl get 22% off and then i recall the guy/gal saying they get 18% off there tmobile bill since they work for verizon, there for no free service for verizon employees

That's interesting. So basically both technologies are sort of evolving into the same thing?

i guess it would be sweet but wheres the comp, theres always comp and im not talking about phones im taking about the comp between which network is faster

Yeah obviously people that work retail don't get that "perk". I worked for Verizon in highschool at an in store level and I got a 40% discount.

so its comfermed that verizon employees dont get free service, but they get discounts, each ranging to 22-40(lets say 50)% off, but that still isn't much since verizon charges extra for different services, there for everyone still pays the same at the end.

Employees in higher positions do receive free service.

No, not evolving. AT&T's system is evolving to LTE. Verizon is simply switching to LTE because they're tired of using a system hardly anyone else does.

They're both calling it 4G, although they could technically call it "strawberry" or something if they want to. The 4G name is really just a marketing thing.

So yes, they'll be the same.

i took the time in reading it a few mins ago before your post but thnx for the link, it will be helpful for other people

Verizon Discounts

I used to work for Verizon and the discounts vary depending on what division of the company you work for. Business employees ( Sales ) get 50%, Customer Service employees get like 20 something %, but field employees and techs get a free phone, free unlimited service, free upgrades ( when qualified ) then 50% off accessories.

that isnt bad at all, but i still wouldnt switch over to verizon if they every get the iphone.

I stand corrected. I forgot about the wifi thing, since Treos don't have it.

The requirements that I have for expensive phones seem to be much different from what sells to most consumers. If I am to be paying a bunch of money for the phone and then need to pay for a 2-year exclusive contract at more than $60 a month, I expect these apparently-unreasonable demands:

Guaranteed service coverage everywhere within range of a routing tower or a clear view of the sky.
Fail-safe device operation.
Waterproofing to at least 10 feet for 30 minutes.
Shock-resistance, and resistance to extreme temperatures.
Shielding against electromagnetic interference.
A properly-shaped earpiece for blocking ambient noises.
A proper hand grip for hand comfort during extended periods of use.
Hot-swappable batteries with external power input connectivity.

When a phone can support these types of requirements, it is worth thousands of dollars to me. Otherwise, I'd rather have a MacBook Air and a Wireless Internet card, because at least the laptop can run my software and has a screen and a keyboard that I can use for productivity.

Myth. Verizon requires a data plan, so it doesn't matter to them if a phone has WiFi or not from that standpoint. Battery life is a more likely reason.

No, not evolving. AT&T's system is evolving to LTE. Verizon is simply switching to LTE because they're tired of using a system hardly anyone else does.

ATT is also switching. LTE is so radically different from GSM or CDMA, that there's no "evolution" involved, except in the heads of marketing folk.

PS. Using Wikipedia as a source is always dangerous.

What matters to me is the quality of the cell phone service provided. My apartment has wifi, my office has wifi, alot of the places I go inbrtween have wifi. So 3G is less of a big deal to me. And when I travel outside of big cities, I see that ATT's 3G is spotty anyway. All I want is a good strong cell signal, and in NY, that's the one thing ATT does NOT provide.
