i guess if i cannot use my hands to type or use my voice (for speech commands), that would be the day i could give up the internet.

i basically cannot live without the online world. when i do my holiday plans, i consider hotels with wifi than ones without.

Simple

Honestly all it would take for me is enough $ to guarantee I could live comfortably and never have to work again. I'd happily trade this lifestyle for something simpler. I say this as a software developer going on 15 years of full time work. I don't even want to think about how many hours I have spent staring at this glowing square object while wiggling my mouse and tapping on the keyboard.

It's a stupid hypothetical question because why would someone give you $1m to give up the internet? It also neglects to specify if a total disconnect is required or if people around you can use it for you. If people I know can use it on my behalf then $1m might be ok. You could sell your peculiar story and probably make a lot more. All sorts of ways this could go when you're talking hypotheticals.

Beat me to it.

Just give me enough to have a butler-type person that I hire for life. And I basically dictate to him everything. Like what apple is going to bring for iPhone's but like more...human.

I wouldn't. Not for facebook, not for macrumors, or twitter or any of that crap just for the unique ability internet access gives one to better oneself.

If I want to learn pretty much anything I basically can and I wouldn't give that up for anything. While it's certainly possible to learn in other ways none are nearly as convenient and practical.

You could give me thousands of hot women and unthinkable amounts of money, but I wouldn't give up the internet.

Yeah, that. If I had enough money (I want $100 million+ to give up the Internet), I could pay someone to do my searching online for me. Heck, I could pay them to transfer certain websites, message boards, etc. to a massive server/SAN/whatever so I could build my own network. Of course, it would have to be offline.

42 virgins in heaven

Hmm...42 gun toting nuns. I'll pass.:D

May want to put more detail in that statement. In case the OP is a wish granter or something.

Good advice. Too many have been burned due to vague wishes.;)

An exotic convertible with at least 500 horsepower and free gas/maintenance for life (there's the catch!). :)

to live and survive in today's modern society, internet access is vital. even if i had a billion dollars in the bank, i think i'd be hard pressed to live without it.

I spent a week in Florida, relaxing on the beach and poolside, and barely even looked at the internet. I glanced merely because I could. However, if I could live that lifestyle everyday, sustainably, and be able to travel/visit my family, I think I could get rid of the internet entirely.

So, I'm on board with those who said a private island.

This is an interesting question. I like it.

Exactly. I would quit software and become a personal trainer or something. Whatever would involve never touching one of these things ever again. After 16 years of software, it'd be nice to do something else with my life.

Right behind ya, buddy. Where do I sign up?
If I never touch a computer again, it'll be too soon. This video reminds me of my first date.:D

I wouldn't give up the Internet for anything. Not that I'm obsessed with it but it is something I enjoy having access to. So I try to fill my life with things I enjoy --life is too short to deny yourself those things for no reason.

I'm so much into CS whereas networking is an increasingly important part - so giving up the Internet and everything related to it would be like giving up a major part of my identity... which I would need to fill with something else. I just wouldn't give it up unless I were in a situation by which it was totally necessary to do so. But maybe it would be a bit easier if I had a lifetime supply of food, cocaine and luxury prostitutes (no street-girls, but they should not be virgins either).

One of two things

1: The kind of enlightenment you hear about from the little bald dudes up in the Tibetan mountains

OR

2: Sex, all day, everyday
