I'd like to see widgets on the multi-tasking bar that allow to quickly set bluetooth on/off, same for 3G and Wireless ... and brightness.

Yes! These kind of 'shortcuts' would be useful, and it should be possible to place them on springboard or multi-tasking bar, or in a folder.

...and I'd really love live (e.g. like Calendar) Weather and Clock icons, maybe compass too.

It would be interesting to find compelling scenarios where up-to-date information is useful to have, but not so important as to require notification.

At least my phone spends most of its time with the display off, thus live icons are of limited utility. :)

An improvement to the multi-tasking API could trigger Apps to update their status when the App becomes visible because of 'display unlocked' or swiping between homescreens. (With some timer to throttle updates to a reasonable interval.)

One example could be a stock-ticker App:
  1. Use Push Notification Service for events that user has subscribed to
  2. New multi-tasking API to update the App icon for a couple of favourite stocks

maybe when you open an appilcation from a folder and then go back to the home screen the folder is closed instead of remaining open.

Yeah, that has always annoyed me. The same with the app store kicking you out whenever you purchase something! Multitasking was implemented for a reason! Download my app in the background!

Well that would just be a poor design. What if you accidentally pressed the sleep/wake button as you slid the phone into your pocket?
That's why it would be an option.

Had this on multiple phones going back years and the problem you allude to just didn't happen. Of course, YMMV. So, again, it would be an option.

FWIW, Apple doesn't do "options" where they can possibly be avoided.
