I will be flying with mine tomorrow. I am looking forward to watching a movie while reclining in my seat. I’ve always hated having to tilt my head forward in order to see the iPad display. I may also work on a keynote presentation while I’m at it. One of the reasons I got it was so I could do those things on an airplane. I wore my Apple Vision Pro for at least 6 to 8 hours today, no discomfort whatsoever. Well engineered device.
I’m curious if you will even be able to fit your AVP under the seat in front of you. Which is REQUIRED for takeoff. Also, must not be a long flight OR a long presentation either because I highly doubt airlines will allow multiple batteries on the flight and if they do, how are you traveling with all those batteries? And another thing, how long is your trip? If it’s for a lengthy amount of time, you are willing to pay EXTRA just so you can have others look at you wearing the AVP for your own ego? Because the whole “hating to tilt your head forward” is just BS. YOU HAVE AN AVP. It is FRONT HEAVY! 🤣

I’m curious to see if an AVP in a carrying case will actually fit underneath the seat.
I think you are overestimating the size of the case.

“According to airline policy, any personal items stowed beneath seats should not exceed 18 inches by 14 inches by 8 inches.”

I am seeing it all over facebook, not a good look for this device.
It's literally the new virtual boy.

I got sick from it as well.
I trying to understand the venn diagram of people who bought the AVP day one and are also Facebook users. It's enough that there are many reports and you also happen to be friends with these people?

Sounds like air travel is going to be a lot more enjoyable for you moving forward!! Enjoy your new gagget

Only apple could sell a 3500 quid headset, with no protection what so ever , and sell you a bag for 200 quid.... watching videos like ijustine and MKBHD , it Is insane how elitist these people are, they truly think that a 3500 quid thing is a good price and have used the word '' ONLY '' to describe it... I mean come on. the elitism of these YouTubers is ridiculous

H

my most important concern when traveling is having an awareness of my surroundings.

Therefore I’d never wear any device like this while traveling by train, plane or vehicle.

There’s just too much crazy stuff happening these days to put yourself at risk of intentional or unintentional harm by someone else for the sake of a movie etc

I’ll stick to a good book 😀
Agreed!
I usually bring an AirPods Max and AirPods Pro with me during the odd flight, but the APM cancels out and isolates so much that at times I just use APPs.
Can imagine then how even more detached from being aware of the environment would be having both your sight and hearing tuned out on purpose.

What's missing from this guide is to check with your carrier if they allow the use of external/portable battery packs

Most carriers insist they are carried on board and not checked in luggage and there are limitations on size etc, this should not be a concern, but not all allow you to use or charge them during the flight.

Most carriers already have extra rules if you drop your phone between seats let alone a battery pack, which is one of their main concerns.

I expect Apple would have to release a direct power supply to get around these restrictions else many may find their AVP just sitting in the overhead locker

The battery is ~35Wh which 1/3 of the 100Wh limit of most airlines. Your laptop and every one else in the plane is probably between 60 and 99Wh.

I think it’s easy to forget at times that many people, even in “rich” countries, struggle to just provide the basics… never mind having the latest tech such as AVP.

One thing that is great, is that relative to 20 or so years ago that things are a lot more accessible than they used to be. Broadband, smartphones, a tablet or computer.. things that really impact people’s quality of life, education and futures.

There are many influencers and YouTube people who do understand people’s budgets and what is or isn’t normal… I think we just have to keep in mind that Apple always has, and always will focus on the prosumer.

As always. There are other options out there… even for AR.

I'd be too scared to travel with this. Fear of getting mugged / robbed / people asking questions/wanna touch it and i don't even get to actually use it..

If I had the money / desire to buy one, It would stay at home and probably keep that info on the low too.

The AVP battery capacity as I noted is not the issue with some airlines its the fact it's separate and becomes a risk, even if it meets other CAA requirements on charging protection etc etc

You can carry onboard smart bags, spare batteries and power banks etc, but you may be barred from using them or charging them with some airline even if under 100wh

This thing is honestly just going to become a nuisance that is going to require more rules and laws to be made.

Can’t wait to hear about the first car accident caused by this.

And yeah…I hope Delta bans the thing too. It’s just not the type of tech you wanna travel with and use around others.
You guys are really reaching to find something--anything--to complain about.
Have there been any car accidents caused by the Quest or Hololens? No.
As far as its use on a plane by someone else, mind your own business. Give that a try.
Do you watch other people read their books or use their laptops or iPads in your limited field of vision from your seat?

I think airlines and/or the FAA will eventually ban the use of VR devices during flights. During a flight, at any moment, situations can arise that require the attention of everyone on board. Isolating yourself from your surrounding with a VR device is counterproductive.
