Before I got my 3G I was desperately needing a new phone. I loathed the Samsung I had, it had terrible battery life and very poorly designed OS. For example it started playing a warning sound every few minutes before the battery dies - great thinking Samsung, let's make it use more battery when it's low!).

At first the iPhone seemed like a gimmick to me but when I started looking more into it, it suddenly made sense. I was already carrying an iPod Nano 3rd gen so getting rid of that would be a good thing and I felt I could use the maps and web browsing features from time to time.

Nowadays the fact that it's a phone is secondary to me. The other things it does are far more important to me.

I got the iPhone 4 because I had sold my 3G in anticipation of the 4. Had I known how expensive the 4 would be here and had I done my homework better, I'd probably have gone for the Samsung Galaxy S instead since it's cheaper. But I got the iPhone 4 and have been extremely happy with it.

For me it is integration. If I were to buy a phone, an mp3 player, a satellite radio receiver, GPS system, portable game console, video player, camera and web tablet separately, it would cost a fortune. iPhone does all of these things very well for a fraction of the price. Plus it does it with simplistic style.

iPhone 3G and 3GS did all the above things well enough, with some done very well, but iPhone 4 does all things well above average and best in class for some things.

Yup, whether you call it integration or convergence the iPhone 4 takes it a little further. A better camera means that the iPhone is "good enough" for a lot of situations. Likewise, the 720P video recording means I can leave a bulky video camera at home and still capture some memories decently. With a $5 app (iMovie), I can edit the video, add a soundtrack, and email to friends and family pretty much real time. And I can video chat with my son at college using Face Time. I can Google anything. I can get flight info, train info, weather, news, play a game, or listen to music, or check a street level map for directions. All this in a device that slips into my pocket, has a 7 hour battery life and is much faster than my old iPhone 3G. That's why I upgraded.

Because afer switching to Android earlier in the year, and even having turned into somewhat of an Android evangelist for a time, I picked up my cousin's iPod touch and instantly remembered one of its greatest and often overlooked strengths... it's damn intuitive and easy to use. I enjoyed being able to highly customise Android's OS when I had it, but it all felt a bit too fiddly in comparison now that I'm back on the iPhone. And the things I use my phone for the most - email, checking RSS feeds, text messaging and todo list - I just find way more nicer to do on the iPhone, and now that it has multitasking it's the perfect phone for me.

As much as I hate touch screen, I got tired of BlackBerries. Though, having the 32GB iPad Wi-Fi helped me get used it. LOL

I have the 32GB 4 and loving it!

What your reason for buying iphone 4?

It needs to be said....

"Because I can."

No other reason really makes sense to me. There's nothing on it that I truly need or can't live without....it's a geek-toy, and I like geek-toys - simple as that.

I haven't bought a phone in 7 years so am looking for a new phone in general. The iphone makes sense because I am familiar with apple products. I could also do with a new mp3 player too as my ipod is now 6 years old. Replacing both at once seems like a good idea.

I haven't bought it yet though but I'm very tempted.

I got mine because I accidentally drowned my iPhone 3G when on a kayak trip. Stuck the thing in a plastic bag with a hole in it....then walked in the water, pulled the bag out of my pocket and there was about an inch of water in the bottom of the bag, and the phone was on....

Because it's made by Apple and it's shiny so I had to have it.

Literally that's why. Plus I had just gotten a brand new 3GS replacement from the Apple Store so I figured I may as well sell it for max value and not pay anything for the upgrade to 4.

this is my first reason for buying iphone so i don't have to carry 2 device (phone and ipod)

This, and the fact that it integrates very well with my iMac (Calendar, Contacts).

Now I have it for a few weeks, I also see the advantage of having internet at my disposal all the time and GPS.

Because Steve Jobs made me.

He beguiled me and used his svengali skills to get me to buy an Apple product.:apple:

I bought the iphone 3gs because I was tired of carrying around the ipod touch and a phone and I also was tired of searching for wifi. I bought the ip4 because it was a nice upgrade from the 3gs. I love both phones but the ip4 does a lot more. And the screen is unbelievable. :D

As a freelancer it really makes my life a lot easier. Integration with calendar, mail etc. Pluss I travel a lot and it's great to have everything I need in my pocket.
My 3G was getting really slow.

Hrm, I bought one cause I really liked my previous one and htis one improved the few things I wished to see improved on my previous.

But I think some one summed it up nicely for me, my iphone is my computer away from my computer plus it's a phone. It's not just an ipod and a phone or I don't think it would be nearly as popular.

My wife's 3Gs went for a swim in a cup of water (accident), so I bought an iPhone 4 and gave her my 32GB 3Gs.

BTW:

Blackberry's suck compared to iPhones.
HTC pseudo-blackberry sucks, but I'm forced to carry one for work.
Verizon data network is nowhere near AT&T as far as performance and speed.

The iPod and iPhone combination is definitely one of the top features. But it's also the best phone out there, at the moment. But yeah, it's fast, great camera, huge app library, most supported phone when it comes to web, cars, etc.
So it's really not that hard to find a reason to why get the phone.
