Usually I would just order but I'm going to be impatient this year and stand in line. The nearest Apple Store is about 15 minutes away, I'm taking the day off. I was thinking about heading over at about 11 or noon. My friend wanted to go at 8 in the morning! I think that's way too early. I'm going to be going to the Apple Store at Victoria Gardens in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. That place on a Friday night is going to be a zoo!

I doubt iPad will sell out on all models. If you are buying 16GB or 32 GB then, you should be at the store around 2-3 PM. If you are buying high end models, then should not worry at all.

yeah I'm getting a 64gb wifi+3g so even if I get there at 5 and there's a line I don't think I'll have a problem getting one.:D:apple:

Yeah it's the low end ones which are snapped up first in my experience, so late afternoon for the top model, you should be fine

What's the protocol for these events? Will the Apple Stores be closed all day prior to the 5pm opening, or do they shut down a few hours before the launch and re-open at the designated time?

I'll probably head down there around 2 or 3 and get a feel for the line. If it's real short I'll sit at the Starbucks across the walkway to keep an eye on things. Fortunately, I live in podunk western MA so the crowd shouldn't be too big. And hopefully most folks will be looking for the hideous white version so I can scoop up a black 32GB Wi-Fi.

Picking my 2 1/2 yr old son up for school @ 5 and heading to the Mich Ave store after. I'm getting a 64GB 3G to replace the one I sold on eBay a few weeks ago. I can't imagine them selling out of the high end models on day 1. The black leather cover though...

On launch day of the 3G model last year, I walked into a Best Buy a little before 5:00 pm, and I was second in line. The Best Buy only had 5 in stock, and they were all 64gb models (which is what I wanted). When I left, only about 7 or 8 people had shown up to buy a 3G iPad. I'm sure that the experience will be different since the wifi and 3G models will go on sale at the same time this year.

My route home from work will take me first to Best Buy, then past two Wal Marts. If no luck with those options, it's on to the Apple store. :)

I am the same way about the impatient things, however I like to go stand in the line. As long as you are around cool people. The time flies while your talking to the people are you or watching a movie or playing cards with everyone.

the only people that should arrive early are the ones who want the 16gb versions. Those sell out fast.

if u are 32, maybe be there on time. if 64 then take your time.

Does the Apple stores restock the new iPad's every night? I want to know what my chances are on a Friday compared to Saturday and Sunday.

was planning on heading to Target at 8, to see whats going on and then meeting up with my mom who will be going to the apple store. Is 8 AM to early to go the apple store? LOL

waiting for info from my local Verizon store. Apple stores in northern VA tend to be pretty douchey (patrons and more importantly gimps behind the "bar" trying to sell accessories to anyone who walks by)

Meh I was 2nd in line for the 3gs and clicked for hours to get my iphone 4 (got it 1 day before release) so now I think I'll just order it online. I might have to wait a bit longer but at least I know I'll get exactly the color, (storage) size and smart cover I want. But yeah, being in the apple line is kind of awesome!!! If you have never done it, I recommend it!

I plan on getting the 64gb WiFi model at my local mall. Never did an Apple line before. The store is usually packed with kids testing the shiny Apple toys, especially when school lets out. I can take the day and go mall shopping. Haven't spent a day in the mall for a long while.

Just wondering when I should go to the trouble of waiting in a line. I guess I'll just have to eyeball it that day.

Tomorrow I gift my iPad 1 to my brother. So the only issue I'll have is being Pad-less for a week.

yeah 8 is too early if they're actually going to be releasing it at 5pm. But I'll be in line at the Gardens with ya. Most likely getting a 64gb Wifi.
