Sounds like they released it six versions early.

Can't anybody wait till things are buttoned up a little better? I don't want to be Apple's Beta tester.

Gotta keep increasing intensive software to force the consumer to purchase newer hardware. Gotta keep the shareholders happy and Tim Cook's face on the covers of business magazines.

Well as long as we're going to fantasize how about this;

Apple commits to keeping Yosemite for three years with steady improvements added along the way. Yosemite for Businesses nine-year support.

The tower Mac Pro returns allowing continuous user configuration changes.

The Mac mini gets more powerful, laptop CPUs with a quad core option, an optional dGPU and easier to replace storage. Soldered RAM remains for space and efficiency purposes.

Nope.
S - designation is out... next iPhone is the 7.

If Apple changes the naming scheme, I suspect it'll be that they stop naming them at all. They'll either refer to them as "New", or just by year, or by generation number.

At this point, with my iPhone 6+, I feel like smart phones have reached the point where they're in the same category as computers, where they'll get spec bumped but not much else. What else is there to do with them? I feel like I'll be holding onto my 6+ for quite a bit longer than I held onto my prior iPhones... like I may just update to the 2019 model in 5 years, and that it'll be basically identical to my 6+ except bigger numbers. No shock and awe or groundbreaking change. Nothing it can do that my old one couldn't (given enough time). Just a smoother, crisper, quicker experience.

I can almost imagine Apple simply not updating the iPhone in 2015.

Excellent Article!

I'm a little embarrassed to say that I largely agree with the posting!

While I think the technology in the iWatch is impressive, the styling leaves something to be desired. I hope Apple teams up with the major watch makers for "Brand-Styled" iWatches. It would be super to have a Tag or Tissot-styled iWatch. And with some of these watch makers, you use their experience to make the watch tougher or more appealing to another demographic. I also hope that I can keep my non-NFC iPhone and use NFC functionality of the watch. Hey, I can hope!

I think it's going to be a great year for Apple :)

Questions I have for 2015 products:

Will the Apple iWatch be more like the Galaxy Gear or the Moto 360? Device that works well w/ the iPhone w/ GPS, messaging, ability to make phone calls on it, etc or just a Moto 360 with a stylish design, ability to read texts, respond via voice, see who is calling but not answer, no GPS, etc?

Does the iPhone 6S actually increase the RAM to improve on multi tasking to match the productivity quality that the Samsung S and Note lines offer?

Does the iPhone 6 improve the build quality to avoid dealing with the flaws the 6 has?

Will there be a good MacBook for under $1500 w/ the following spec line? 8 GB of RAM, i7 processor, and 15.6"?

Will the iPad Mini 4 actually be worthwhile to buy?

And I always look to those covers for solace when OS things go south.

My new trend is to buy older hardware, since a lot of things Apple brings out these days seem purely to maximize their profits and not my workflow.

So you basically want to keep the name Yosemite and change everything else? The only thing they're doing differently than what you describe is changing the name once a year. Or do you not want new features each year? Apple knows that big releases get the most attention and adoption. If they trickle out new features as they are finished, no one will even know about them.

Was this reporter being sarcastic?

The only thing of any relevance Apple released this year was the iPhone 6 and maaaaybe Yosemite if you want to be very generous.

2014 was a very, very, very poor year from an innovation standpoint.

Huh? What about 5k iMac retina? Mac Pro was technically released in December 2013 but it wasn't really released until 2014. iPad Air 2 is the most powerful tablet and thinnest available with a great battery life. There's also Car Play and Apple Pay. You also forgot they released 2 different iPhones. The 6 and 6+ to shut up everyone about large screens already.

That's more innovation released in 2014 than any other company I can think of. Can you name one other company?

Well I was fantasizing about Scarlet Johansson coming over for New Year's Eve tonight, but that seems downright plausible compare to your fantasy.

I agree, but the iPad Air 2 is an honorable mention. I was surprised how much thinner they were able to make it yet still have it feel solid. The A8X, M8, and boosted cameras are great additions too.
The iPad mini 3, on the other hand, is I feel the most disappointing Apple product of 2014. It is a complete joke they would think anyone would want to pay a $100 premium for Touch ID and gold color back

The iPad Air 2 is every bit as innovative as the iPhone 6. iPad Air 2 is by far the best iPad yet. When I went to the Apple store and held it and used it I was very impressed by the how they could make such a leap over an already great design.

Yawn.

no mention of a replacement for the dinosaur 27" Thunderbolt display?

I just bought one of these relics because i got tired of waiting for a refresh. how long are they going to milk this old-style, thick, usb 2.0 display?

None of those things you mentioned are innovations. They are tiny incremental improvements on existing products. Wow, a 5.5 inch phone! Welcome to 2009, Apple.

And nonsense like Apple pay and car play don't do it for me. Android has had NFC payment for ages. I'm glad somebody is excited about that stuff, but I'm sure not.

If it's not sarcasm, they are being compensated by Apple's marketing department.

Then you must never get excited about any new products because according to you, companies cannot introduce "innovations" unless they are brand new products introduced throughout the year. Sorry but I don't see any new products introduced by anyone. They are all iterations of existing ones.

Wow, somebody who actually cares about how thick the display is.

I just look at mine from the front.

Well then go innovate something...

Funny thing is, so many complaints and everything and yet what do you use your devices for? Emails? Facebook? Typical mundane everyday things that are irrelevant to the rest of the world? How about you let us creative types that actually make a difference in the world complain when something isn't up to snuff. Haha! And that's my contribution. Later, folks!

er... just because something excites you doesn't make it innovative. Introducing the iPhone was innovative. Introducing a spec bump is not.

Agree. Innovation in technology can be improvements to existing methods, not just new products. Plus the "welcome to 2009" line used by some to describe the new iphones is downright childish.

Looking forward to what Apple do with music. Will the iPods get updated? Will iTunes get the overhaul it needs? How will Beats evolve? Etc.
