What insurance do you use? I want to insure mine because I am pretty sure I am going to drop.

You can claim iPads on homeowners insurance but if it gets stolen and nothing else then just buy another because of the deductible and risk of the monthly cost rising. If your house gets broken into and everything is gone then claim it. As far as dropping it or something that's probably not covered.

I disagree on the resell value issue. If you sell it online or to someone you'll never see, you don't have to tell them it is on there and I don't think it would be something they would initially be concerned about since you can slap a cover over it.

Are you serious? If by selling online you mean eBay, the customer can and will file a Paypal claim for "not as described", getting a full refund including shipping. You'd be out the eBay fees, Paypal fees, and shipping.

...as a heart attack.

I'm surprised how many of you intend on reselling your device. Kind of ironic that you're worried about "value" when you're buying a new iPad every year. Sure you recoup a little of the cost but you're still shelling out a few hundred minimum to get a another new iPad.

Wow.

I would return the iPad if the seller failed to mention it had a custom engraving on it. That's dishonest and unacceptable. I don't put covers on my Apple products and I do not want one with a custom engraving intended for someone else.

Does a family member really want an iPad engraved with some other dude's name?
If someone gave me a hand-me-down 3 year old iPad with their name etched into the back, I'd be embarrassed for anyone else to see it, less they think I stole it or something.

Engraving is a horrible idea. Like tattoos.
Not a fan of anything that's permanent.

If you're getting it as a hand-me-down (i.e., for free), then you really can't complain...

I didn't even engrave my wedding ring, it might have reduced the resale value. Although 25 years of wear might have done the same thing.....

"If this is still functional, lucky you."

No really, no engraving here because I had to have it day one, and it would lower resale value.

Hubby got:

sonic screwdriver

I got:

Mine. Not yours. Mine.

(We have a 10-year-old kid who would who would be more than happy to try to adopt either iPad and will not be bothered by the engraving when she receives one as a hand-me-dowm.)

I was thinking of engraving mine (ipad 2) then i thought of the all issues things.

What is there is an hardware issue, would apple accept to take it back and give me a new one?
i was thinking of putting my mom's name, then i thought silly.
What if i want to resell it one day" maybe if i have a proverb, people won't mind but a name? NO WAY. I will not buy something that has a name myself.

Conclusion: DON'T ENGRAVE!!! KEEP IT AS NATURAL AS IT WAS INTENDED.

Resale, really?

"DON'T PANIC!"

Cliched? Yes, but worth it.

I know plenty of fellow nerds who would love to have this on an Ipad or pod. I don't really care about resale. I'll most likely wait for the fourth generation Ipads, if and or when we get that far, so I have time to enjoy it, and by then it will be at least two year old tech.

If there are technical issues, I'm more than willing to live without the engraving.

I haven't ordered mine yet, but I'm not planing to engrave it for the sole reason of not hurting the resell value of the device.

But if I was sure that I won't be reselling it, then I would probably engrave:

"FC Barcelona vs Real Madrid"
" 5 - 0 "

People who knows what El Clasico is, will know what I'm talking about :D

I'm going to kill you now :D
