I don't know about you guys, but after I Jailbroke my iPod touch, I thought to myself, "Boy! I'm never going to do that to an iPhone!"

Besides, yeah both devices are the same price, but the iPhone costs me $20more dollars a month! Take that over a 24-month period...$480 more dollars!

That was the deciding factor on my iPod touch factor.:apple:

If only Apple could create a cheaper iPhone, like around $200, maybe I would buy it.:apple:

I seriously considered an iPhone, but it came down to a few things...
1) AT&T - lots of bad experience with them in the past.
2) +$20 per month. No matter how to slice it, the iPhone would add $20 a month to my bills, so $480 extra over the life of the contract.
3) I also don't like the idea of draining my phone battery to watch a movie, nor do I like draining my iPod to make a call.
4) Storage. 8gb isn't quite enough for me, so I would have kept my 5G iPod and ended up with anyway. For the same price (or less, considering the touch is available at more merchants, so it's more likely to be discounted) I could get 16gb which would replace my 30gb completely. (As an aside, I'm pretty sure I could make do with 8gb, but I'd rather not).

So, I'm on the touch-train now. I'll probably look at the next generation or two of the iPhone, though. I'm likely to switch (back) to TMobile this summer, so if I can pick up either a cheap used iPhone, or a new one with some really cool features, and unlock it for $6/month internet access (that seems to be the price over at TMobile) I'll certainly consider it again.

I'm curious to see if T-mobile gets an iphone this summer. THeir customer service rep told me that was to happen when I called in recently. But, I'm not much of a believer. We'll see.

(Speaking of TMO, I got my son a TMobile Shadow phone for x-mas. Great little WinMobile phone. It seems to have a little of a battery drain going on that we're trying to figure out, but it's a solid little phone).

1. No MMS
2. No GPS (not a dealbreaker, but nice to have)
3. No 3G
4. Not great battery life
5. No group texts
6. Poor camera
7. No video recording (important to me)
8. Limited app availability
9. No payg option without hacking (why should I have to do that to get it to work the way I want)
10. Not available in Ireland
11. Ringtones
12. Recessed headphone jack issue sounds like a pain
13. Woeful bluetooth support (no file exchange, keyboards etc, just headphones)
14. No file manager

I thought about it for a while, but decided on a Nokia N95 8gb instead. It does all I could want, and more, although admittedly the interface is not as nice.

The fact that it's $70 a month for a plan that includes data. That, and the lack of 3G (yes, I know the iPhone renders pages almost as quickly as a 3G phone, but I occasionally tether my phone to my MBP, so I actually do need 3G).

Why pay $70/mo for a slower version of what I get for $30/mo?

I just don't need a phone right now. The Touch, jailbroken solves all my needs and even if I did buy one, I'd have to go through the hassle of shipping it from the States since its not sold in Canada, unlocking it and then paying the only provider of EDGE in Canada, Rogers/Fido for using the Safari browser. Rogers is the most expensive phone company for data plans IN THE WORLD. I was on yahoo.com twice on my Ericsson phone and my bill for the data alone was $12.

Whats holding me back from an iPhone?

Simply, the price.

I'm 17 Apple, I don't have £270 + £550 for the 18 month contact.

Sorry Apple, you have to bring this thing down in overall price before I take the jump.

exact same reason for me. I'm only 17, and my job doesn't pay enough for the data plan.

I actually stood in line for 6 hours for the iPhone on June 29th and then returned it 13 days later! For almost $700 it just was not worth it...and AT&T just sucks!!!! Plus, the plans are outrageous. I have T-Mobile, get better service, and pay a fraction of the price each month for my service plan. I do miss the iPhone, but my iPod Touch makes up for it! :)

I work for a competitor, and I get my phones and service free, so... no good reason to get one.

i would love an all in one device. i am currently carrying a touch and a Treo 700w every day. For me the problem is mostly AT&T. The service here in NJ is just terrible compared to Verizon. In addition I would want at least 16GB.

reason: iPhones not in Trinidad except on the black market for the equivalent of $800 US unlocked

Not available in Japan, I will buy one the day they are released here - there is no wifi ANYWHERE in Tokyo, so the functions I use the most on my Touch (mail, Safari) are absolutely worthless to me unless I'm at home.

Sometimes I really hate this backward society.

  • The fact it needs unlocking in the first place
  • That I can't have it on pay-as-you-go on Orange in the UK without hassle
  • The cost
  • Lack of a decent camera compared my k800i
Same here. I hear you can buy them sim unlocked in France and Germany as per their laws. I wanted to know if I picked up one of those would it work with UK sim (but no-one answered my thread lol) I do hope they will allow it to go sim free in the UK.

Quite simply because I don't like the current model of the iPhone when compared to the touch it feels clunky and the springboard looks messy. I'll wait for the next gen one.

I agree with just about everything said already. I had AT&T before and was really unhappy with the service. I was much younger and more irresponsible and I broke my contract owing them quite a bit of money. So it would cost me as much as the iphone itself just to get going, plus the monthly bill. I'm really happy with Verizon, and would have to break my contract with them.

I drop my cell almost every time I use it, and I couldn't imagine seeing an iphone suffer through the abusive relationships my cell phones have had to endure!

finally, I need 16 gigs. My music/video library is way to big to funnel down to 8gigs. 16 is just about perfect!

A jailbroken touch is just about the most amazing tech gizmo I have ever seen. I'm excited to see what apps the SDK release is going to bring. But unless theyu are quite significant, I'm more than content with my 1.1.1 jailbroken work of art!

i.) at&t
ii.) closed platform+no gps software
iii.) crappy camera
iv.) no flash (as in led flash)
v.) too many ppl have it, and they all tend to think it's teh phone
