Changing the App icon is very stupid if you also cannot change the App title underneath the icon. Also seems to need user permission. Doesn't fit my purposes... and Apple is touchy about multiple Apps with similar functionality...

HomeKit - HomeKit has gained support for programmable light switches.
Is this to say Homekit is now ready to work with the switches announced recently that should work without a hub? Is it Insteon that is starting in April selling some? I had the idea they were Bluetooth. I don't know.
Not sure about Insteon, but I'm waiting for Leviton's version

Excuse my ignorance, but what kind of benefits would I be getting with this change?

I tried reading about it, but the whiskey has gotten a hold of my brain and only music registers at this point.

To simplify, the most important benefits would be less space taken ( for example when a copy is made, only new changes are saved to the copied file), unified file system across all Apple platforms, safer file saves, better crash protection, more efficient/stronger encryption, and optimization for flash storage etc.

File system size between 10.2 and 10.3

Much obliged! Doesn't sound bad at all.

Released this morning, iOS 10.3 is the third major update to the iOS 10 operating system. Its main feature is a new "Find My AirPods" mode for locating lost AirPods, but the update also includes many other smaller changes and feature tweaks.
Pages and pages of text and pictures.
iOS 10.3 is currently only available for developers, but Apple will likely release a public beta for public beta testers in the near future. iOS 10.3 will likely remain in testing for a couple months before it sees a public release, so it could launch in March or April.
Way to bury the lede. Good grief.

When your biggest complaint about a product is a possibility- they are doing pretty well.

ARticle could use the word BETA in the title. It's only in the video title in small letters compared to iOS 10.3.

iOS 10.3 Beta 1 has fixed the dreaded, "iTunes cannot sync movies TV shows to the [iphone, or ipad] because the Videos app is not installed" problem in the TV app when attempting to sync ripped or downloaded content.

Analytics cannot be turned off. As when I do on my iPhone 7 and close window it turns itself back on. Is there another way to turn it off?

This used to be diagnostics and usage data and has been renamed. Pretty sure during the setup screens it said in betas you can't turn this off.

I wonder if 10.3 addresses the camera shutter issues... lag in motion-shots (even in good light) and choppiness in videos going from dark to light to dark, etc...

Good news on APFS. I've been excited since the WWDC announcement. I have a feeling the big announcement for 10.13 is going to be a bunch of things related to APFS (hopefully). We'll see. (I've been disappointed before. Ha.)

Don't know if it's the new file system or just a major clean-up performed when I upgraded, but free space went from 4.2GB to 5.3GB on my iPhone 6...

Major thumbs-up...

And that can be a good thing, like you said, because the truth is, probably more people run iOS than macOS (because iPhones are Apple's primary driver), so Apple can ferret bugs more quickly using telemetry data.
Because...analysing 1.000.000.000 syslogs is easier/faster than just 1.000.000 ?

Something else that's changed: the phone no longer vibrates when you 3D touch the keyboard to move the cursor around like it used to. Kind of annoying, as that gentle nudge let me know when I'd engaged the feature so I'm not sliding my thumb around hitting random keys.

New file system? I'll wait. A long time.

If there's even a minor bug in the new file system, you can lose all your data.

Once APFS comes to macOS, I'm sure there will be mission critical users that will choose to stay on HFS+ for years to come. They won't switch until APFS has seen lots of real world use.

Sneaking in a file system change in a point update of iOS is really a horrid action by Apple. People will update to get bug fixes not knowing the danger to their data. The change should have been deferred until a major iOS update and a new iPhone model. Those with mission critical needs could then stay behind on an old iOS on an old iPhone.

AFS is optimized for SSDs/flash storage?

isn't this the kind of storage used since the iPod days? Why so late?

From what I've read, APFS isn't specifically "optimized" for SSD's, but rather makes use of the fast random access capability of SSD.

HFS and HFS+ were designed in a single threaded era. They were also designed for drives that are slow at random access. Therefore, the directory structures are all one big blob at the start of the disk. (Well, actually several, but they'll start out all together.) Now, in a multi core, multi threaded era, all threads have to wait their turn as a single thread accesses the file system. APFS splits the directories up so multiple threads can access the file system. The downside is that data is scattered around, but on an SSD this doesn't matter.
