Here is the solution. When this happens, you just need to tap the phone number or contact name displayed on the lock screen, and you will get the call controls back. No need to touchID back into the phone :). Drove me crazy until I found the solution. I joined MacRumors just to answer your question!

I really hope they fixed this because it makes no sense at all to hide call controls!

Well thank you very much for joining and providing that answer! I'll absolutely try that next time it happens!

It drives me crazy as well! Totally unnecessary. They could at least have text that says "Touch here to bring back call controls" or something Jeesh.

You're right on the first count and possibly on the second, yet I'll disagree on the 2nd and say it's just peace of mind. Not that my name or being or who I am is of any significance to anyone else - my data personal belongings mean jack shot about anything ... but I like to have that personal sense respected as such. There is a fine line saying something about somebody vs printing it ... I wonder where that all began? I see it as slightly the same principle ...

You want to know who I am ... ask me, and likewise vice versa.
You want to marry a woman, of the respect to ask her mother/father for her hand in marriage (if their alive, if not visit their grave and ask them)
You want to get reference you ASK others for their permission not simply name/number drop.

Would you state these above as paranoia? how are they different? basic principles ;)

The big deal is it's my name ... my birth-right, something my parents gave to me, just like my life (living life) and thus just as your name should be respected and pronounce properly whever you go like everyone else, it's the one thing you take wtih you EVEN after death! It's on your headstone, and remembered by your family, loved ones, and offspring.

You may not treasure your name and identity amongst strangers, but its no reason I shouldn't.

How often do you go into icloud settings once you've setup icloud on your phone? think about it, just how often?
- thus why did it need to be at the very TOP of Settings with your Name?
What is the real purpose of it being there?
Do you need to be reminded of your name, just like you need to be reminded of the carrier you're using with branding on all those other phones for the past 20yrs?

not a big deal to you but to me it's a preference I'm not happy with ... any changes I wait until I cannot have my shoulders overlooked. In the workplace EVERYONE is damn nosey ... it's the game of snakes and ladders.
I respect your stance on this. I think apple felt that people dont use the settings app as much as others so it would not be much of an issue.
It would be whole different issue if your name was on the status bar all the time.

Agreed. I did enjoy the rebuttal and thank you. There was no right/wrong on this and I know it's my paranoia to be certain. I guess I'll have to get used to it or jump ship. The grass looks a LOT greener lately but I still feel I'll have a head of headaches when things just don't work. So I'm sticking to iOS

MUCH better than Beta 3. I am no longer experiencing those long pauses resulting in re-springing. At least on my iPhone 7. We'll see about my iPad Air. It seems to struggle a little with iOS 11.
I would very interested in your iPad Air results (presuming you mean the first iPad Air)
I went back to iOS 10 after dismally slow performance of PB 2.

Don’t know if it’s a bug or what - but if I double press my lock button, it sort of shows my lock screen with a black background and a much duller and darker text - almost as if it’s for checking the time at night and don’t want to strain your eyes on a bright screen

Sorry I missed your reply. Yes, the first iPad Air. Some bits of iOS 11 are still a little slow, but it gets a little faster with every new beta, it seems.

I don’t like the fact that WiFi or Bluetooth do not actually turn off in control center. That should be optional at least. Apple is doing just a bit too much hand holding in that specific case.
