With my old Windows Phone it was handy to see my current speed along side the map, not to mention that it could warn me that the speed limited changed and I could adjust accordingly. Plus for biking it would be nice to see my current speed while I'm on my route.

Speaking of Windows Phone it would be nice if Apple Maps added offline map support. Earlier this year I was trying to set a route in a data dead-zone and Apple Maps was completely useless.
Exactly see your speed next to the limit. Not everyone speeds on purpose. They pull the shady crap where they plummet the speed and instanly have a speed trap. Or do the same when they pave roads because your speed is perceived slower on a nicely paved road.

How have you reached adulthood without ever having multiple errands and appointments to run in a single day? I’m picturing only ever having a single destination to leave home for and all I can think of is being a kid and going to my friends house and back. When you have half a dozen stops to make all over the city, in places you’ve never been to, with random roads under construction, and three appointments to make at random times apart, and another asking when you can be there, this is far more valuable than changing your phones wallpaper.

That’s what’s already happening now. The Navigation needs play controls. Pause/Resume, Backward & Forward, & Stop (end).
What would even cooler unless the beta already does it is just have to pop in multiple stops and have it sort them in the most efficient route

They have limited first party reviews, using a thumbs up/down system. This is on a fast food joint down the street:

I do wish to see the end of Yelp in Maps however. It takes forever to update the reviews within Maps. I like the binary of the thumbs up/down because people only seem to review horrendous or wonderful experiences. If they add the text box next with a force touch action to mark as relevant/spam that'd be the cherry on top for me. I don't need a novel about your experience or your political opinions when you're buying a burger.
I absolutely hate up down only. Down could be anything from the food tasting weird to absolute rudeness or vermin

That's why there are categories. Someone can lie and give a thumbs down for food when they had an unrelated issue, but there's not much a review system can do about bad contributors without moderation. You also can opt not to choose either when you review, in the case that it's more nuanced.

No. What's getting old is people refusing to take a modicum of responsibility and step up to find products that meet their expectations and needs. Should be easy. Sadly, it's much easier to complain on a public forum than steeping up.
Problem is that all products have their flaws, nothing is perfect. I still like Apple Maps the best overall but it still have some shortcomings. But maybe you can point me to a map app that: gives me navigation and traffic info, has lots of POI (and makes it easy to add missing POi), looks good, runs smoothly and is not Google related.

Yea Waze is like the only one that seems to be current for traffic. Apple you will be past the exit before it even warns you, if it even does. And Apple needs to get better about acting on reports for sure. I reported the entrance for Panera's lot three times, and they still didn't fix it from when I checked. Will have to check again. It ends the route at the entrance to the main mall lot instead of at Panera's lot inside that lot.

Does everybody still have the option to change distances between miles and km as this setting seems to have disappeared for me on the latest iOS 16 Public Beta running on an iPhone X. Anyone else not getting this option?

I hope Apple continues to put serious resources into developing/fixing Maps because as of now Apple Maps, Google Maps and Waze all have problems and annoyances, but Apple is the most convenient to use because of its tighter integration with the OS. Apple Maps has long been the Lucy-with-a-football to my Charlie Brown but I’ve got my fingers crossed for the update (yet another kick at that football). An example: I recently traveled about two hours away for a job and my options were two interstate routes which are perpetually under construction and have notoriously bad traffic and another state highway route. Choosing the latter ended up being a short run on the state Highway and then backroads for the majority of the trip. That’s cool - it was a picturesque drive - but upon leaving the job site, Maps refused to offer me the same route home. As far as Maps was concerned I could either take the interstate or I could call an Uber. I ended up using Google Maps for my return, which took me on a similar but crazier backroad route, filled with one-lane roads and hairpin turns (Google feels that I need more adventure in my life). At least now with multi stop routes I should be able to force Maps to give me alternate routes. Don’t even get me started on Waze, which despite its chill ‘70s DJ voice, seems to get angry if I make a stop without informing it and randomly reroutes my trip without telling me just to be a jerk (hey Waze, thanks for sending me through West Virginia and adding an hour onto what was already an eight hour drive. Very cool of you). Most wished for feature in Maps - a truck mode which avoids low bridges, weight restricted roads/bridges etc.

Yesterday I had my first reasonably long run in many months. And used Apple maps both ways.

For some reason, it didn't dive into driving mode properly and, while it showed where I was, it didn't zoom the map. Could well be due to me not starting it right!

But in both directions, it was spot on in identifying traffic - road red or yellow, etc. Accurate location.

Very simple route, but on the way back I diverted off-route to reach the cheapest filling station. And it kept recalculating the route all the way. (I know the roads well, but tend to use GPS anyway - in case of need to divert, etc.)

There are far too many roads in my usual area which have no, or almost no, signal. Wish I knew it could, and would, download maps in advance to cover all eventualities.

(I live in Wales - which has some awful coverage!)

Offline Maps would be nice!

I saw that the iPhone 14 has satellite capabilities for emergencies so at-least there’s some thoughts about what if you don’t have a signal!

Google Maps, HereWeGo, and one or two more offer offline Maps what about Apple?
