If I’m using navigation to go somewhere, I’m going to a place, not multiple places.
How have you reached adulthood without ever having multiple errands and appointments to run in a single day? I’m picturing only ever having a single destination to leave home for and all I can think of is being a kid and going to my friends house and back. When you have half a dozen stops to make all over the city, in places you’ve never been to, with random roads under construction, and three appointments to make at random times apart, and another asking when you can be there, this is far more valuable than changing your phones wallpaper.
Have you ever experienced the embarrassment of having your navigation continue talking after you get to your destination and get out of your car and it starts talking again because navigation hasn’t ended? That’s what I imagine happening
That’s what’s already happening now. The Navigation needs play controls. Pause/Resume, Backward & Forward, & Stop (end).

Unfortunately maps is too late all website links take you to Google maps which is disappointing as apple maps is finally getting ther unfortunately 10 years too late ..
True. But there’s a iOS extension called Mapper that links Google addresses to Apple Maps.

Funny thing is that Apple Maps is way stricter in interpreting addresses so you might end up with Address Not Found errors.

That’s not a solution. If Apple products bring him happiness he can’t just switch to Microsoft or move to the US.

Apple needs to step up its game and translate features faster. It’s not that hard if you have billions of dollars.
but do Apple products bring joy if they don’t do what you need them to do? while it would be great for them to add all the things everybody wants, it’s not a NEED.

if the product doesn’t do what you need it to, there’s one out there that does. we can’t force a product to fit our needs.

Of course it’s not a need. I can’t believe we’re having this discussion.

If Apple decides tomorrow to withdraw from the US (because of countless reasons) it’s not a need to stay and cater to American citizens. And people and society will move on.

The point of OP is that if a multibillion dollar company sells its products on the international market and charges a premium, it’s not crazy to expect them to not cripple their products because they can’t be bothered to translate them.

But why don’t you use English and stop whining you ask? We can’t! Because stuff is tied regionally, linked to Apple ID, or whatever.

Man, I will be very happy when Apple Maps will make me forget all about Google maps, but for now I still prefer the look and feel of Google...

Thanks to our data-protection zealots, we‘ll never see the update in Germany
I just checked the map of Munich for instance. At least there is some rudimentary building detail for the whole city. Here in Austria Apple maps has always been completely useless due to the fact that it’s lightyears behind the (free!) competition. It appears that most of the modern features only work in the Cupertino, CA area and some select US cities. I’ve given up on Apple maps a long time ago, my go to app is Magic Earth which is free, supports offline maps, 3D view essentially everywhere, waypoints, dashcam & HUD features, Apple car play and very frequent map updates.

Thanks lord, this is coming, I am getting tired of selecting the destination again after picking up my lady. Managing specific gas stops was painful having to cancel and reroute manually.

i don’t disagree that they should (and maybe even could) expand features way faster than they do.

but again, there’s other options when they don’t. while Apple sells devices all over the world, they don’t force you into using a crippled product. you’re welcome to download any app that meets your need better than Maps does.

my point is people get on these forums and talk like their entire lives are ruined because Apple doesn’t support certain features when there’s other options out there. the OP didn’t take it that far obviously, but it’s a thing.

Wow, still no Offline maps download? Pathetic.
Phone turns into a brick when you're out hiking or no reception, damn. 🧱

I typically have used MyMyHike, MapMyRide, or Strava apps when hiking/riding. They'll use GPS to record your route, and then they should synch the route to the cloud when you get cell service again.

I like the UI and voice selections better in Apple Maps, but the ability to download offline maps is a very nice feature in Google Maps. So when I'm traveling, I switch to Google because I can be assured of having the map even if I don't have reception - I got burnt by no reception once in the hinterlands of Oregon without a map. Definitely a missing feature.

Nonsense. Anybody can switch brands if they're serious. I get it though... it's much easier to complain rather than step up.

No - how about Apple finally get it together

Apple has it together for many millions of people as evidenced by record sales by people, many repeat, voting with their wallets, year after year after year.

If anyone's unhappy with Apple, simply vote with your wallet and send them a strong message. Or refuse to step up and take responsibility, and have a good whine. The easy no-effort way out.

This kind of response is getting old. Apple has a problem and people pointing it out are told to switch away.

No. What's getting old is people refusing to take a modicum of responsibility and step up to find products that meet their expectations and needs. Should be easy. Sadly, it's much easier to complain on a public forum than steeping up.

The last missing feature for me is trailer & RV friendly routing, where you can enter your motor home or travel trailer specs, and get routing that avoids things like low clearances and weight limited bridges.

Some routing apps that do this also optimize the route to avoid steep grades.

When you use multi-stop in Apple Maps in iOS 16, the “car” doesn’t start talking again, it waits for you to tap the Next Stop button on screen.
That makes a lot of sense. I still don’t expect to use it but like I said, but if anyone can get it right, it’d be Apple.
Options are nice and I’m glad they added it for those who want or use it.

I suppose! I’m at that stage (but without the kids) and really all I ever do is just set a destination and go. When I’m done at the first stop, I just ask Siri for directions to the next place when I get back to the car and bam off I go. It seems like a bunch of work to get all your destinations set up beforehand… like sitting in the driveway making a playlist for your one drive.

I’m of course going to try this feature out when I can but I just don’t see myself using it.

Here's a specific case. I was just on a road trip and used the map screen in CarPlay to find a gas station. To get directions to the gas station, I had to cancel the directions to my final destination. It will be great to add a pit stop to get gas, coffee, etc and then have it resume my original trip after without having to re-enter it.

no Police traps, better use Waze
100% ^ I find Waze is a better navigation app especially in rural areas where Apple Maps has twice delivered me miles from the intended address. Waze did not have that problem. Plus, absolutely hate Apple launching yelp.

On roadtrips I always make my final destination a Favorite, that way its easy to just tap to resume the trip.
