you are all talking as if the current model.... only out a year (which in apple terms for Apple TV is practically brand new!) is somehow rubbish.

It isnt. Its great.... I wonder why we need a new version so soon - even the older 4K model released a few years earlier seemed unnecessary to replace last year - but again already?

The AppleTV is the best, and fastest streaming box out there - I struggle to see the pressing need for its replacement just yet.
The only way to justify the high cost of the device nowadays

Give me the option to disable Siri voiceovers and thus enable unprocessed digital bitstream audio out. Otherwise I’ve bought my last Apple TV. If this hasn’t happened when I next purchase then I’ll be defecting to Nvidia Shield. ATV is amateur hour for serious home cinema enthusiasts.

Open things up to support PS Now and Xbox whatever and I am all in. It’s been a great device for us but for the next one I want more game streaming options.

the days of the Apple TV as a toy is over, for me this is the primary device for content and smart home devices at this point.

I think it is time to recreate that product, I think apple should design a sound bar form factor device, a hub of media, smart home control and gaming (apple silicon graphics are almost there with metal 3 + their own controller) for the home.

HomeHub to something like that.

I too want a browser. Not to surf but to take it on vacation with me. Can’t authenticate the MAC address on travel unless you jump through hoops spoofing the MAC address or you call the hotels it group and get the Apple TV‘s MAC address white listed. It’s a pain in the butt
That’s no longer true - AppleTV added support for portal logon:
Apple TV supports captive networks, which are networks that require an additional or secondary login. To connect to one of these networks, use the steps above to connect to Wi-Fi. During setup, your Apple TV will prompt you to continue on your iPhone or iPad. Select Continue on iPhone or iPad, then follow the onscreen instructions on your device to complete setup.

I was hoping for an Apple TV Pro with at least a M1, or better a m2 pro, just to get in range of a ps5 Xbox series X. It would help apple to entice developers to develop AAA games . Or a special G(aming) series chip like a m2 pro without, low power cores, the ai en video decoding cores to cut costs. Just 10 high performance cores, IO controller cores and 14-20 GPU cores.

Or it least a M1.

That would be lacking the separate apps for each streaming service. Just having a Mac with a HDMI port doesn’t provide Dolby Vision Streaming with multi ch audio.
I agree, an apple mini should have the ability to run TVOS for multimedia purposes, together with the ability to use a apple
Tv remote .

I enjoy the current Siri Remote. The only thing I could see them adding is Find My for if you lose it.
Their excuse for not putting it in the current Siri Remote that was released at the same time as the Find My network was pathetic. They said this remote is chunkier and thus harder to lose, so you don't need to track.

Well, I put an even chunkier case on it that holds an AirTag and I've still had to track it to find it a dozen or more times.

Maybe it's just my remote, but I find it almost as bad as the original so hopefully the new one is an improvement. When I hit the back button, half the time it exits the app instead of just going back. For example, I click on a movie to read the description. Hit the back button to go to the list of movies, but instead if exits the app. Anyone else have that problem?

I also thought it was the fastest, but I don't know anymore about its speed.
The latest TV lags so much here on the latest iOS.
I'm getting sometimes 1-2 whole second latencies between pressing a button and actually seeing the result on screen.
I found for me that was actually Bluetooth interference with the remote, not the Apple TV itself.

My Apple TV is 8 ft in front of me, line of sight, nothing in between. What would cause Bluetooth interference in my situation?

i actually dont think the AppleTV is highly priced.

Just because Amazon do a 4K Firestick for 1/3 the price of the AppleTV the user experience with it is far below that of the AppleTV and I for one am happy to pay the price for the AppleTV given the far superior user interface... absence of Ads, and integration with the Apple ecosystem.

.. it could be a lot worse frankly.
