Hope the new remote eliminates that side button. I can't stand that thing. I'm always using it, but never on purpose.
I’d seriously love to see how people are holding their remotes that they inadvertently invoke the Siri button. I find it hard to get to when I want to use it.

Mine is the same setup but maybe audio amplifiers and speakers or too many WiFi signals/routers. I don’t exactly know but try using another remote that can control the Apple TV, like your phone, AVR, or tv and see if it is better
I’ve had my 2nd gen Apple TV 4K since June 1 and whatever tvOS version was applicable at the time, including the fact that I was on the public beta track.

Yesterday I had tvOS 15.6 beta 3. The responsiveness of the Siri remote was decent in most apps, but not what my 1st gen Apple TV 4K was like, with the same tvOS version as when I got the 2nd gen Apple TV. The responsiveness in the YouTube app was quite bad. I figured it was the 2nd gen Apple TV 4K. I have not been happy. Until today.

Today I updated my tvOS to public beta 15.6 beta 4. What a difference! It is pretty much excellent in all of the apps I’ve tried. YouTube, Apple TV, Plex, Prime Video, CNET, Photos.

And there was not an update to the YouTube app. So, I assume it’s the latest beta with whatever firmware may have been updated for the Apple TV and Siri remote that has given me an excellent responsive to my Siri remote. I have gone from being unhappy to quite happy with my 2nd gen Apple TV 4K. Hopefully those experience the same sort of problems will be happy when tvOS 15.6 comes out. 😊

As far as I can see, Goat Simulator isn’t an Apple Arcade game on any platform, not just Apple TV.
Released in May:

I couldn’t find it through the Arcade tab in the App Store. I had to search for it and scroll past three other Goat Simulator versions, as well as a Goat Simulator bundle, to find it:

“iPhone and iPad apps”, no ATV :(

i’m too lazy to look back, but I think I remember Apple touting that all Apple Arcade games would be cross compatible between Mac, iOS, iPad, and tvOS.

surely youve answered your own question there.

You tried, what, beta 2 of the new TVOS and found it slow? - OK then - im not dismissing your findings but your expectations are way off if you are expecting to be able to compare 15.x to 16 right now.

I don’t think you read my post clearly.

Yeah I thought the same.

Possibly irrelevant, but the one time I wanted to play an Apple Arcade game (Goat Simulator, which has been out on iOS for 7 years) on my TV, it’s not supported on Apple TV at all. Wonder if the current ATV is underpowered to an extent which limits Arcade offerings.

Seems silly since I’ve typed it out — I can’t imagine ATV would struggle to run a 7 year old iOS game.

As far as I’m concerned, the ATV has been overkill on power since the last generation.
I think it is because the Apple Arcade version doesn't support controllers. I tried it on the iPad and can't us a gamepad to play. I guess that would make it ATV incompatible.

There’s really no need for frequent hardware updates for Apple TV.
It’s just a streaming box not a computer or smart phone.
I’m still using the first 4K model and see absolutely no reason to upgeade.(other than it’s remote maybe).

Currently I have no reason to replace the ATV, but if newer model gets a really significant GPU update for more demanding games and the ATV case doesn't change in size... then maybe.
Back in 2017 I got the first ATV 4K. It was an impulse buy, but it turned out money well spent. We got rid of cable that same year. Now 5 years later that same ATV still is the main and only device in daily use on the TV. Its small and runs so smooth. We watch TV show, films on the usual streaming services and the kids are very happy with Arcade, except that only a few games support two player games with two bluetooth game controllers.

My Apple TV is 8 ft in front of me, line of sight, nothing in between. What would cause Bluetooth interference in my situation?

To name a few possible interferences: other wireless devices in proximity to the ATV itself. Like bluetooth keyboards, mice, wireless speakers, baby monitors. A wifi base station near the ATV itself (less than 2 feet) can also cause a lot of trouble. If you have an apartment, neighbours may have wireless stuff that interferes. Years ago, in my previous home, I had wireless speakers on a stand next to a wall. Every now and then they went completely offline. It took months before I found the cause: on the other side of that wall my neighbour had his cordless phone. Whenever that phone was in use, my speakers went offline. I couldn't do anything about it until I had the opportunity to upgrade my wifi to 5GHz. In your case it may be more difficult. If your ATV is mounted on the back of a big sized TV, that TV may block the bluetooth signal. If possible, try moving the ATV or wireless equipment that is near the ATV.

Thanks for your reply. Often those factors can have a great effect. However, in my post above, I noted that going from tvOS 15.6 public beta 3 to tvOS public beta 4 yesterday, all of my Siri remote unresponsiveness was nicely taken care of. I had no success with all tvOS, including non-betas, until tvOS 15.6 public beta 4. Now I’m quite happy.

I was able to use a gamepad past the main menu, though it was unusually glitchy. Same behavior on the free Pocket Edition and the original paid game.

Hopefully they did fix something. I find it pretty random. Some days it works fine. Others it doesn’t.

you are all talking as if the current model.... only out a year (which in apple terms for Apple TV is practically brand new!) is somehow rubbish.

It isnt. Its great.... I wonder why we need a new version so soon - even the older 4K model released a few years earlier seemed unnecessary to replace last year - but again already?

The AppleTV is the best, and fastest streaming box out there - I struggle to see the pressing need for its replacement just yet.

Because the iFixit teardown shows that the 2021 ATV 4K (which I own) uses a DisplayPort 1.4 to HDMI 2.0b converter. I have no idea why Apple advertises it as HDMI 2.1 on the product pages, because that is a lie.

The '21 ATV is hardware locked to 4K 60Hz because of its port. But 120Hz aside, there are still a slew of HDMI 2.1 features that we would love to have; sans gaming. QFT & QMS, so it takes less time when changing codecs, formats, and frame rates, eARC--without bugs!--, Bitstream Passthrough, and just having a full fat (48gbps) port.

Even at the time, the A12 was already an outdated chip. So thought an ATV refresh is rare, Apple's been changing up some of their product release patterns as of late, and I'm hopeful we see a premium ATV 4K release this year, apart from the rumored more affordable one. I'll definitely buy one with a true HDMI 2.1 capable port.

I had wished the previous ARM supported VP9 but that alone was a valuable benefit of updating the ARM. I wonder what the A14 supports that A12 doesn’t? :)
yeah we have reached a point that hardware specs are not going to make a big difference for movie playback for now anyways IMO

Give me the option to disable Siri voiceovers and thus enable unprocessed digital bitstream audio out. Otherwise I’ve bought my last Apple TV. If this hasn’t happened when I next purchase then I’ll be defecting to Nvidia Shield. ATV is amateur hour for serious home cinema enthusiasts.
Is Siri the reason it can’t do bitstream audio!? That’s the first I’ve heard of that but never really thought about why Apple intentionally doesn’t allow it, I just assumed it was because it’s suppose to be a ‘streaming box’.

To my knowledge this is at least one reason. You can’t inject additional audio effects into unprocessed bitstream digital, so it would make sense if accurate. Happy to be corrected but that is my current understanding.

I would love the option to switch to raw bitstream out even if it means accepting a dialogue pop-up explaining that Siri will be disabled. Home cinema enthusiasts with decent AVR equipment generally don’t need Apple doing their audio processing for them.

ETA: Apple seems to be rubbing shoulders with Dolby, so I’m unsure if there are licensing issues or conflicts of interest in allowing ATV to pass DTS bitstreams from 3rd party media. This could certainly be another factor.

The AppleTV’s UI & OS quality are awesome. The kids love it. Our first was the 2nd Gen many years ago. Now on the 4K and HD models. If Apple can lower the price point, it will gain market share.
I'm late, but when has Apple EVER lowered price to gain market share? They have SE phones and Watches, but that's it.
I don't see the Apple Tv price points dropping anytime soon, I actually think they will go up!
