Give me the option to disable Siri voiceovers and thus enable unprocessed digital bitstream audio out. Otherwise I’ve bought my last Apple TV. If this hasn’t happened when I next purchase then I’ll be defecting to Nvidia Shield. ATV is amateur hour for serious home cinema enthusiasts.

Yeah I would just like DTS X output support. I mean as much as I love my receiver lighting up with the proper audio format in reality it bothers me more that there is like a second of silence after unpausing a video since there is no comfort noise. Having the Apple TV decode audio into Dolby MAT 2.0 vs the receiver doesn't really matter especially for lossless audio, though of course that leaves DTS X out high and dry.

I'd also love for the AppleTV to support VRR (with LFC) to make framerate matching instant and seamless.

I like my Shield, but unfortunately some apps have started to frame skip like AppleTV, Hulu and Discovery+ even after resetting to factory defaults and dusting the entire thing out it still has weird frame skips in those apps (Plex, Netflix and YouTube are fine). So I'm definitely a bit interested in an AppleTV if it can meet my needs.

The price points are way too high. $149 should be MAX for a one and only top spec model.
Charging $20-30 less for half the memory is plain silly and embarrassing from Apple.

The "HomePod combo" sounds like a sound bar with a built-in camera and Apple TV. I can't think of any other form factor for such a product. Because it is a speaker, it can't be hidden inside a tv stand cabinet like the current Apple TV. The speaker can't be overly tall either, since it would block the tv, and it would be ridiculous if the speaker wasn't designed to be used with the tv.

I would certainly buy this HomePod/Apple TV combo, since it would enable me to bypass WebOS on my LG C1 while also providing better speakers. I wish Apple would release a streaming stick that ran tvOS but lacked game support. I can't speak for anyone else, but I have absolutely zero interest in gaming on an Apple TV. I can't see Apple seriously competing with Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo. Seriously, who is buying the PS5 controllers sold in Apple stores?

Hopefully Apple includes the ‘Find My’ feature in the new Siri remote to make it easy to find if it falls under the couch
This is unnecessary bloat. I don't need it. I always know where the remote is. We shouldn't have to pay for a feature we don't need.

Might as well throw 8k in there.

If the iPhone rumor about it shooting 8K video and taking 48mp pictures is true, an AppleTV8K is the easy way to display both on an 8K TV or projector.

And yes Apple "good enough" fandom: I know we can sling 100 reasons why no one should want an AppleTV 8K... the same reasons slung for why no one should want a AppleTV 4K before there was one... and no one should want an AppleTV HD before there was one... but I (me myself) would be interested anyway... even without an 8K TV yet. Why? More robust hardware can play lesser software to the max while still working just fine with all of the related stuff "as is."

However, I also recognize that the pattern is for iPhone to adopt a new resolution for up to a year or so, followed by iPads and then an AppleTV finally getting around to it. So if iPhone shoots 8K this Fall, iPad updates might add it in the Spring and next Fall... and maybe next Fall+ also yields an AppleTV 8K. Nevertheless, I'd buy one today if Apple announced it today.

I've got an apple TV but ive just been using the app built in to my Samsung TV and its been just fine. Don't know why i need the box. What am I missing? P.S. - all audio goes to my AVR via pass-through and into my 5.1 system.

This would be the fastest the AppleTV was ever updated. And such a modest one?

Either the A12 is being phased out or there’s something else in the works here. Even the A14 doesn’t seem fast enough to compete against consoles so I’m skeptical it is about Metal 3 & gaming.

Its still more capable then A12 as far as gaming, single CPU, Multiple CPU and 3D Mark is 42-45% faster see attachment.

My Apple TV is 8 ft in front of me, line of sight, nothing in between. What would cause Bluetooth interference in my situation?
Mine is the same setup but maybe audio amplifiers and speakers or too many WiFi signals/routers. I don’t exactly know but try using another remote that can control the Apple TV, like your phone, AVR, or tv and see if it is better

The biggest thing stopping me from adding one to my living room is the remote. I lose mine nightly in my bed can’t imagine on the couch

Of course it is! I never meant to imply otherwise, but is it a big enough jump to make a difference in gaming? To compete with current consoles? The M1 Pro/Max seem competitive but those are too $$$. Even the M1 is too expensive to put in a ~$200 box ATM.

I wonder if they’ll release a “gum stick” version of the Apple TV? We have our Apple TV 4K (1st Gen) mounted to the wall behind our LG 55”. It’s hidden behind the TV, but it would be nice to have smaller versions for other TVs in the house.

My prediction: We get a few more rumours stating that the A14 Apple TV is ready to drop at any time and then... nothing. Until 12-18 months later, Apple farts it out taking people by surprise and underwhelming with the combination of out of date chip (A14 will out of the lineup in Autumn 2023) and surprisingly high price point and no real improvement in Apple Arcade which is the only thing that really needs updated hardware.

Just seems to be how Apple TV releases happen

I have been looking for a replacement for my FireTV... This might be it.

Apple will definitely bring a very good product, now the only thing is support for programs and ****. I will order this if it comes out.

FireTV is okayish but slow af, they are not the same price class but still.

Super long shot but I personally wouldn't mind if the new remote was for a Studio Display Pro with built in Apple TV functions, similar to what Samsung's M8 monitor does.

Hope the new remote eliminates that side button. I can't stand that thing. I'm always using it, but never on purpose.

4GB RAM is killer for videos/movies streaming, but it's still few for games.

I'd rather pay $300 on an Xbox S (lots of AAA games plus 512GB of storage and expansion ports!) than $200 on an Apple TV A14 with few RAM, few storage, no AAA games, no USB port.

Apple should release an Apple TV M1 with iPadOS instead of tvOS, with Safari, Mail, Files, Pages etc for $300.

Maximum price for Apple TV with tvOS is $100, it's just for streaming, nothing more.
