Pretty terrible week, honestly. Had 4 people bail on different rehearsals I'd scheduled which is frustrating - had to reschedule 3 of them for next week and one tonight. The bassist in one of the groups I'm in is having travel issues, and isn't going to be back until the week after next. Numerous faculty offices in the building flooded last weekend, so lessons/rehearsals had to move elsewhere. The printer in the Conservatory building is also broken. Same guy in the studio who was giving me trouble on our trip is certainly not letting up, he made me actually really angry during studio class and almost made me want to leave in the middle of class. If hanging out with my best friend was supposed to be a respite from all of this, he's also gone this weekend (we did make a plan to see each other on Monday though). Everything is just sort of a mess. It'll all work itself out in the end I'm sure, but this really sucks.

There have been times in the last couple of days, when drowning the bl**dy thing in cheap, nasty, fake custard was an attractive option.
Just because a computer is tiny doesn't mean it can't harbour ill will to all mankind...

Well, I found out what the problem was. It was simply the order of doing things.
IOW, setting up a Raspberry Pi may not be commutative.

Today is Easter Sunday for those who subscribe to the Orthodox Communion ("Eastern Orthodox", or "Christian Orthodox), the version of Christianity found in much of Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Russia, Greece, Armenia and Georgia, among others.

Happy Easter to those among my friends, colleagues and acquaintances who subscribe to this doctrine.

Finally getting my pool pass soon, so I can put this painful walking behind me. I simply cannot go as far (and as fast) as I'd like, so I feel like it's time for a change. With the nice weather, right now is the perfect time. Going to start slow with water aerobics and then work my way up to swimming. I'll need lessons though, because I tend to kick my feet like a drowning animal.

I have a (potentially bad, but also sort of unavoidable) habit of yelling “AAAA!” when I play a wrong note when practicing (or very rarely, an expletive if the mistake is embarrassing enough). Was practicing an intense passage of solo piano music today and emitted what I think has been the loudest, most blood-curdling interjection to date. I think people out in the conservatory lobby/lounge area even probably heard it. It was probably appropriate for the music I was practicing though, one of those moments where you use your full energy to play something.

So if you hear that from me in a practice room, I am probably not dying, but I probably screwed up a measure of music.

Also, I got the nicest compliment from a visiting parent (whose son was visiting as a prospective student). He said just as we were done talking that I was a “really nice person.” I’m glad he thinks so!

You're in good company.

That was a fun read (I personally have no Keith Jarrett in my collection for that very reason).
Musician magazine had a fun article, back when they were still in print, about "Lead Guitar Face" that I found amusing; did a quick googlez search and there's so much material (articles, photo collections, and videos) about LGF that I will let anyone interested look themselves.

Travel is on my mind.

Earlier today, I departed from the city where I have spent the best part of the past two months, and am now in the capital of the country for a few days of debriefing, after which, I shall return home.
Safe travels. I just drove the length of the M40 myself and sadly crawled round part of the M25. Now sat in glorious sunshine at my hotel having a nice cider. Work tomorrow though.

Thank you.

Earlier today, - well, a few hours ago, earlier, this afternoon - I also bade a fond farewell to my excellent staff, my driver - who drove me to the capital, and my assistant.

You form these intense relationships, attachments, with people, relationships that can even occasionally develop into actual friendship - over a period of time when working together with a shared, stressed (and intense) timetable. And then - while you do write and keep in touch to some degree - it is more than likely that you will not meet your local staff again, unless some other pressing business takes you to their country at some stage in the future.

I can imagine. I often form better relationships with people I meet through my work these days than those I work with day in day out.

Here I’ve just ordered dinner and was amazed the waitress remembers me. I’ve been here three times. But not since September last year and only for just one night. Very good service for a chain hotel.

Today, I had my first ever practicum in a school class. Exciting! Since I signed a confidentiality agreement, I won't go into details, but it was, and will continue to be, great experience. Friday mornings 7:00-10:00AM at a school about a mile up the road, so easy to walk to. And that works extremely well with my schedule, too.

What prey tell is a practicum? Not a word I’m familiar with.

A "practicum" is structured, documented experience in a classroom as part of an Education course, sort of like a lab in a science class. If you are looking to get teacher-certified, a specific number of hours (100 hours where I am) of "practicum" is required. I'm not looking to be certified, but looking for a way to get a little bit of teaching experience. So I enrolled in an Education course that includes a practicum as part of it.

The practicum for the class I'm enrolled in (20 hours over the course of the term) counts for 20% of the course grade. So at the end of the semester, I will turn in a document showing how many hours I did. Hopefully it will be 20, so I can get the full points. In other words, for 20% of the course grade, I go to a school for 20 hours over the course of the term and observe/assist.

The practicum is one component of the class - there are also readings, written assignments, and exams as in most classes.
