Well I only stayed up to watch the football. But if wasn’t an enjoyable watch.

But I seem to have developed a nasty habit of waking up around 4 something these last few nights. Just makes me tired in the early evening.

So I expect an early night is in order here as well.

At least the bed is made. Nothing worse than deciding to head to bed only to remember the sheets aren’t on it!

Fortunately the sun and wind made short work of drying them off today.
Oh, yes, I hear you.

As it happened, I arrived home to a stripped bed, which made that the first task of my return, even before any thoughts of unpacking; normally, I put fresh sheets (in this case, lovely, brand new, sheets, sheets with a high cotton thread count) on the bed before I head off anywhere.

Two excellent nights of slumber - nine hours (and badly needed).

Now, I am feeling a little more like myself.

After listening to some German podcasters chatting about Tim Cook stepping down, I've decided to fully embrace their rubbish English. Just like them, I'm gonna start pronouncing "Executive Chairman" as "Executive German" from now on. So Tim Cook's gonna be the Executive German of Apple this autumn. Hehe.

Strange and Mysterious Statements

Do you ever hear people make strange and mysterious statements?

Ten years ago, someone in our village said that a Black man had been seen near the Protestant church. I don't know if they were referring to the man's skin color or if "a Black man" simply meant any unknown man. Unfortunately, in Germany, that's always a bit of an ambiguity. It was never really cleared up. I certainly didn't see anyone there.

Returned a few books to the library.

By the time I managed to get into the market (was delayed reading week-end editions of the Guardian and the Financial Times), nearly all the stalls I wished to visit had packed their stuff away. Well, there is always next week...

The cherry blossoms are almost all gone, and the daffodils have disappeared; but, green shoots (and leaves) are now beginning to put in an appearance.

How to sink a good business idea.

The best example is MTV and Apogee Software.

MTV didn't go under because of annoying commercials or YouTube, as some claimed, but because they switched to pay TV, just like VH1 did back then. They simply disappeared overnight. Nobody could have researched that back then, since there was no internet.

Apogee Software. Back then, it was an institution here in Germany. If you saw the Apogee name, it meant "buy it!" When they rebranded as 3D Realms, nobody here knew what it was. No reputation and no renown.

What's the problem with Michael Jackson?

I have no idea! Michael, what have you done now? Did you run a red light again? I don't understand the question.

See attached. Where Michael looks good.

I feel like I'm going to have dreams about this one specific measure of music I rehearsed with a group tonight. My classmate, whose recital this is for, is incredibly picky about playing stuff 100% correctly as-written on the page, as he has some very cool (but also very specific) arrangements going on that only work and sound good when everyone plays their part right. Mainly jazz-fusion stuff. For some reason, on measure 24 of one piece, I just couldn't hit the A flat minor chord on the "and" of 3. I kept missing it, it was so weird. I ended up getting it by the end, but he was very much, "we aren't leaving until everyone plays the charts down correctly" (which is totally fair for something like this). Anyway, now I can't stop thinking about how on measure 24 of this one arrangement, I need to hit the chord, and not miss it.

Since the poster him/herself proclaims to be from Germany, I believe this must be an homage of some kind to the Berlin school of post-WW I art form known as Dada-ism.

Since when does an artist have that kind of responsibility to an audience?
I am not referring to the artist, but to a particularly opaque post penned in this thread, which others have also already referred to.

However, I will add that - at a personal level - I do find self-indulgent (and deliberately obscure) stuff from artists increasingly tiresome. I have neither the time nor the interest to attempt to decipher this sort of gnomic stuff.
