Speaking of board games, we played this game called Sushi Go at my friend's birthday party this past weekend and it was a lot of fun. It's a game that my parents own but I only played it once a couple years ago and had to be reminded of the rules this time around. But we all enjoyed it a lot. As well as Taboo, which I've played many times.

Made me want to start playing board games again more often. I played them a lot in high school and freshman year of college but not much since.

Sushi go is a fantastic party game! It’s definitely lot of fun.
Board Games are quite incredible nowadays. I’d recommend looking into Mansions of Madness 2E (a cooperative game), Dead of Winter (semi-cooperative, with traitor mechanics), and Catan (commerce) as heavier games. As for lighter games (not party games) I’d recommend looking into Tokaido, which is also quite beautiful. As for a party game, Cash n Guns is quite funny too. For Adult only games there is the obvious Cards Against Humanity.
“The Dice Tower” is probably the best Youtube channel for reviews and quick intro to the rules.
“Watch it Played” is a great channel to see in depth rules of multiple games.

I've played Cards as well as Catan, and I also love Alhambra and (for a party) Secret Hitler. And I've played Risk and Pandemic.

Haven't heard of those others, but I will check them out :)

Alahambra, what a nice, smart game! Pandemic is great too. Never played Secret Hitler, I will check it out.
If you want to go all boardgame nerd, then there is Twilight Imperium 3E, which is probably one of the most complex, and fun strategy games in the world. However expect very long, intricate games.
Ah, I forgot to mention Lords of Waterdeep. It’s in the D&D universe, but it’s not an RPG at all. Relatively easy to learn and fun.

Alhambra is one of my parents' favorites so I've played it with them and my sister a lot. :)

And see, I've never played any D&D although a few my friends have and I've observed games. Might have to give that or a game in that universe, a try. (Forgot to mention Machi Koro, another one I had a lot of fun with when my friends and I would play it with some regularity a year ago).

Either way, I am inspired to get back into these.

Great posts; as a teenager, - and even in undergrad days, I loved board games, and played them with brothers, a cousin and friends.

We still play board games in my family. Frequently.
My older son is a certified game master, so we are constantly "experimented on".

A great way to spend time together as a family and to bond together; the cousin I mentioned (who was the cousin we were closest to as children, and are still very friendly with as adults), played endless board games (Cluedo was a particular favourite, Ludo, and many others) with my brothers and I in the years immediately preceding second level and as teenagers. Great times, and fun times.

Exactly.
We usually visit my son on this huge board game events where he runs from table to table to explain how to play this or that game. Now that I enjoy, to watch other people whose eyes reflect the same hopelessness. Good to see that I am not alone. :D

But, at the end of the day, it is a game, not a professional activity or endeavour, and, to my mind, while some competition and complexity are to be welcomed on occasion, the key point is that you should somehow enjoy playing the game - rather than be made to feel inadequate or hopeless (as school sports so often did).

Creating an atmosphere where "hopelessness" appears in eyes will serve to rapidly reduce the number of willing participants to avid enthusiasts who will willingly lose themselves for days on end in such pursuits.

Me, by university, I loved board games, (Trivial Pursuit was another) but I also liked to be able to have a coffee, or beer, or glass of wine with them; I had enough of ferocious intellectual activity in the classroom (or library), and subsequently, in my professional life. That means that I don't necessarily need it from a game, where one should be able to relax, and be at ease.

We used to play a lot of cards as kids. Can't remember the last time I played.

Actually, I still played cards (but not often) at university; cards and whisky in someone's flat.........there were a few such nights.
[doublepost=1559251826][/doublepost]My mother played golf (at which she excelled) in summer and played bridge (which was more of a social thing for her) in winter.

Scepticalscribe, you are right.
The problem is that this new, modern board games are very complex, thus difficult to play.

Some are quite easy, like Tokaido.

I am completely fed up with Chromium (the "open source" version of Chrome). This browser have become so bloated and buggy on top of the Google tracking.

I stopped using Firefox a few years ago because it became slow, but things has really turned around. I installed the latest Firefox and I have to say with a straight face it render faster, run smoother, and web pages look nicer than on Chrome. It is faster than latest version of Opera too which is Chromium based.

What’s wrong with Safari?

Hook the phone to the Bose and blast Break Stuff by Limp Bizkit.
Belated response to “Good Lord I can relate to listening to one annoying conversation wafting through the train car”: treat everyone to some Bolt Thrower...:p

I’m listening to Imagine Dragons. It’s mostly drowning her out.
[doublepost=1558632630][/doublepost]My next train is cancelled due to congestion. How do you get congestion on a train track!!!
That happens here too. Trains run ahead or behind schedule, and abracadabra, the system is congested.

@AngerDanger congrats on new job.:)

Snakes. I love snakes, the way the look, the way they move, just about everything about them. The hissing I could do without, but what are you gonna do, snakes hiss, it's the way they are.

Problem is, they tend to scare the snot out of me. While in the military a long time ago, once during a longer march on a hot summer day I took off my boots for a minute to cool down during a break, and was promptly bitten by a snake while I was sitting on a rock. It didn't even hurt all that much, but I guess it ended up affecting me psychologically more than physically.

This is all on my mind right now because I just returned from visiting a friend who has snakes as pets. He assured me that they wouldn't kill me, so I played around with them for a bit and actually got to thinking that a snake would be the perfect pet for me; they pretty much mind their own business, don't need "round the clock" supervision etc. If they didn't give me the heebie-jeebies, it would be a match made in heaven.

Alas, the hunt for the perfect pet continues. I guess I'll try a rock and see how that goes.
