Do I take the 2, 3 or the 7?

👉

🏃........o_O

Having fun with the new emojis are we?

If you actually have to ask about which train to take, you're probably in wrong neighborhood and in more danger of unexpected and possibly unwanted entertainment 🥧🍟🔥⛄⚡ than are the people getting their behinds pinched on any of those train lines.

I will certainly abuse the food emojis

🍕🍷

I'm going to wear out the popcorn one, probably. Not here... over in PRSI.

I can't deploy the pizza one often because it makes me want real pizza. Even now I crave it! I usually settle for making fake mini pizzas made out of small bread-style pitas like those Toufayan makes. I don't care for frozen alternatives to commercial fresh pizza or making them from scratch at home. My oven's getting too old for such adventures. I don't want to find out some weekend that it no longer even wants to finish roasting a chicken. I'm more interested in lots more roast chickens than in the occasional pizza. :)

My oldest kid is ready to enlist in the Marines, should happen next week. Already passed some tests and screenings. Kinda a windwhirld of feelings...

Crikey.

As enlisted or as an officer?

Either way, a tough and challenging, and - I'd imagine - very rewarding profession.

I'll echo what @Apple fanboy has already said: Firstly, I hope that he enjoys himself, secondly, I hope he learns a lot (once a teacher, always a teacher) and thirdly, above all, I hope that he stays safe.

Thanks!
Enlisted, he's very likely going to be in the Marines band (he's already a very proficient player) which is a full time job. He will likely go to college while in the USMC since they basically pay for it. I am just glad that he's thinking about the future, and he's making a very hard choice. I think that he recognizes his need for a structure.

If he goes to college while in the USMC, I daresay that he could be considered for a commission at some stage; however, the very best of luck to him, and I hope it works out for him.

While he may be a bandsman, in the eyes of the Marines, he will also be a trained, professional soldier.

Absolutely! His recruiter made it clear multiple times. A Marine is a Marine first and above all. The rest is second... with a wide gap between the two. We'll see how this goes. I admit I am very impressed so far with the process, I guess that 244 years of experience in managing people at the highest standards do the trick :)

I was just notified by email that a product is “out for delivery”. Then the email said, if I haven’t received it in two days to please call the merchant. WTH? I didn’t know I lived that far out in the sticks.

I've got a few things out for delivery today, this one showed up about an hour ago :D

... a new Mac Mini (i7/32GB/512GB).

It's pretty awesome, super fast (processor and storage), quiet, lots of connectivity. My USB-C-to-mDP adapter didn't come (as originally indicated), today for that, but I used HDMI (I'll doing that anyway, Display 1 HDMI, Display 2 DP).

Migration Assistant via a direct connect ethernet (USB-to-Ethernet on the MBP side), it was pretty fast considering it was moving about 300GB. The only thing that really went pear shaped was Postgres (it's a DB server), the service account didn't get created, did a reinstall (which reported doing an "update"), fixed it right up.

Then of course a few authentications needed for things like DropBox, iCloud), a couple of license activations (Parallels wanted to active on this machine, de-active the old, sure, click, done :))

It doesn't seem to be breaking a sweat running my VM now, 8GB allocated, and plenty left over for MacOS (and the number of services/apps I run concurrently).

The autumn equinox; I dislike the half of the year where the days are shorter than the nights.

On the other hand, I always warmly welcome the arrival of the vernal equinox.

I bought a fall coat to help cope with summer’s death. Next will be a winter overcoat. These are the first I’ve bought in a decade.

Trees are turning and soon will give way to dull browns and grays.
