My mother.

It is almost a year - December 21 last - since she passed away.

My brother and I shall visit the cemetery this afternoon.
The anniversaries, birthdays and other significant days are always the hardest.
Good luck with it.

She lived a long and happy life and passed away in her own home surrounded by family.
What more can any of us ask for?

How quickly can I clean the 65 gallon fish tank. In short, I need to be finished by 11:25. We play Man City at 11:30. This will all be interesting...

Absolutely true, and we take considerable solace from that.

She was happy when she passed away, - and she was surrounded by family; it was as easy and gentle as is possible with such things - for she was content and comfortable, and had completed her course at the end of a long and happy life.

You are absolutely right; few can ask for more.

Hugs @Scepticalscribe

Just tossed a lot of blu rays and movies I do not watch. So much of these were still in shrink wrap, but cannot return or sell them. I just want out on negativity and too much stuff which reflects this.
I just want to pare down what I own.

Mom does not want me to visit today, which is fine.

Thank you.

Both brothers and my sister-in-law showed up - we all visited the cemetery together, and earlier, we had hosted/held a small gathering in a local hotel - tea, coffee, sandwiches and scones (plus cream and jam) - for some family (marking the first anniversary of my mother's death, a week early, as we figured that people would have too much happening next week which marks the actual anniversary of my mother's death); six cousins and my elderly aunt (aged 94, and still sharp as a Japanese steel knife and frighteningly lucid) turned up, which was very nice.

So, bitter sweet, but very pleasant.

Waking up to 77 degrees and high humidity in Houston, I’m reminded that Winter (in name only) is a very temporary state. The hot air is always waiting for the cold air to lose its resolve. ;) Fortunately not yet, another cold front is on the door step and a low tonight of 38 degrees is expected. :D

We've been waking up to 35-38* mornings for the better part of a week now. Will continue on until an upcoming storm system flows over us. There were nice patches of ice here and there all over.

Waking up to rain, darkness, the cold, complete with charcoal coloured overcast sky dispensing rain, sleet, and dreary drizzle.
Sunny here and a bit warmer but we are due for a large rainfall on Friday. I'll have to take advantage of some drinks then as I start my holiday break.

God help me, I dipped into "the thread" again and read about prancing blonds. I wanted to post this:

However, I really have to wrap up all accounting this week so see you all later this evening perhaps.

Ministry of Silly Walks?

Why not post it in the aforementioned thread?

I continue to be irritated with the lack luster spell checker here at Mac Rumors. Speggitti, no replacements found- you really can’t figure out what I’m trying to spell?! :p

Where do you live?

Colorful description. Do you love the rain? :) I do, because for 8 months out of the year, we rely on it to keep things alive in serious heat. Almost every time it rains, I annoy my wife by telling her how I feel about the rain.

Planning my 2020 reading list. I think that I will follow Seneca's advice and mostly re-read the books that I consider worthy of being read, and I will read texts from good, well known authors. Hence, I plan to keep reading old philosophical texts. I also plan to finally finish Manchester's "Last Lion" trilogy (Churchill's bio).

No, @Huntn, I most certainly do not love the rain.

In fact, I dislike the (incessant) rain intensely.

Bed is on my mind and it’s only just gone 7 pm!

I can relate to this, completely.

Take a tea or a hot chocolate with you.

Just took a tea. As the lounge is a war zone this is the only room we can sit in for now anyway.

Well, that should heat you up, somewhat, and you do have heating and hot water restored to you for now.

However, I can well imagine that you must be looking forward to the day when the renovations have been completed, and that the house has been transformed to your specifications and preferences, and reflects your taste and needs.

It’s warm enough in here! Mrs AFB has had the oil filled radiator on to warm it up. The heating isn’t great with the old boiler.

Actually, I really dislike and detest air conditioned offices; not only is it unnatural, it is also usually set to a temperature that I find absolutely freezing from my perspective.
We don’t. We keep it at a reasonable temperature. We used to have a number of very vocal women who wouldn’t let it ever go on.
So we put a rule in place that only managers could put it on and at what temperature. Then I bought a thermostat and just put it in when it hits 25. I’d rather it went on at about 22. But I’m sensitive to others needs.

Fair enough.

When working abroad, I find I wear my jacket in air conditioned offices whereas some of my male colleagues seem able to stroll around in shirt-sleeves or t-shirts.

Yes, there are also a few female colleagues who don't seem to feel the cold too much, but I have always been exceedingly sensitive to cold.
