I use them all the time, - serious reviews in respected publications - and reviews on blogs or online - and - re movies certainly - they have a considerable influence on whether or not I decide to watch a movie.
I’m going to watch SW either way so no need. If it’s something I’m on the fence about or not heard of, then sure I’ll read reviews. Tend to avoid trailers though as they can be misleading. You can watch a comedy trailer and you think it looks funny. Then you realise you saw all the best jokes.

Oh, I don't watch "trailers" (and cinema showings are far too full of time-consuming trailers, - often showing the best bits - as you have so rightly said), I just read reviews, and pay heed to the recommendations of writers whose work I like ad whose tastes I tend to share.

In the old days, I used to watch Barry Norman (who was excellent) on TV with my brother - and I found his reviews very illuminating and instructive (and they tended to offer a pretty fair guide for someone with my preferences; in other words, I realised that I liked the stuff he recommended, and generally loathed the stuff he disliked)

We need an EEK reaction emoticon. "Wow" doesn't cut it!

Good idea for the glitter patrol. I have forced air heat, so really I don't like that glitter junk falling out of a card and getting tracked around to end up in the furnace filter, the bottoms of my socks and then the washing machine, etc. I should open cards over a wet paper towel on the kitchen counter!

On the germs exchange: I was surprised to realize I haven't had a cold all season so far either. Was joking with a friend about how maybe having adopted a snappy refrigerator magnet that says "Quilting Forever, Housework Whenever" is responsible for some unknown quantity of boost to my immune system. By that I mean that I couldn't quite grow carrots on my kitchen floor last week before I washed it, but I had actually noticed it needed a good scrubbing about a week before I made time to do it. Meanwhile I'd had boxes delivered by assorted couriers and then dragged into the kitchen to be opened, and grocery bags and their contents also all contributing to the general micro-ambience of that kitchen.

I think there's something about a five-second rule for whether it's ok to eat something you drop on your kitchen floor as long as it's not butter-side-down lol. I assume it's a made-up number, but maybe not. Anyway last week I figured five seconds on that floor and the next stop would have to be the trash bin.
The only thing I've done different is try a new brand of sanitizer and using a men's unscented moisturizer in my nostrils after a shower and before I go out. I'd read last year the drying of nasal cavities just near the opening during the winter introduces a pathway for pathogens to make way and attack the body. This made sense because I know people who do this. Also been spraying my nose with saline spray, that Arm and Hammer brand.

I'm still more often watching movies so old that the very idea of "spoilers" is pretty moot... but yes, I tend to read reviews of even newer movies before I watch them. A respectable reviewer is not going to put a spoiler out there on a new release anyway. If I regularly read particular reviewers' work, then there's a sense of how much to figure in advance that my views may align with or diverge from theirs. I used to just watch trailers and read reviews after I'd elected to see a movie, but I've been disappointed with that approach too many times w/ respect to movies of the past couple decades.

EDIT: I just realized the rest of my post here was more suited to the movies thread so I moved it..

"Ticks and Leeches?" Ehhhhhhh......

When I was a little girl and would go swimming in the freshwater lake where my grandparents had a summer cottage, every now and then one of those icky leeches would find me and attach itself to me -- YUCK!!!! Thankfully, easily removed, no harm done, but still.....YUCK!!!! Each time I emerged from the water there was an inspection by me and by whoever else was around.....

Moving on to more pleasant subjects, yes, I'm another who prefers to read reviews rather than just trust trailers when there is a new movie coming out that I might want to see. As has been mentioned, trailers can be really misleading. Sometimes reviews can be as well, although not when written by well-respected people, and it is the latter reviews which I look for, too, but even at that I take everything with a grain of salt and decide for myself if this is or isn't a movie I really want to see, and how do I want to see it? In the cinema (theatre) or at home with renting it from iTunes (several month delay there, though, before a new film is available for that) or (rarely) actual purchase, perhaps even on DVD (just did that with the "Downton Abbey" movie because I've already got the entire six seasons of that television show on DVD anyway, might as well add in this film, too).

Advantages of viewing at home, whether renting the film or purchasing it, of course means that there are no other movie viewers (strangers) seated immediately around one -- people who are sneezing, coughing, talking, rattling bags of some unknown substance, vigorously chomping and chewing.... I am sure I am not the only one who detests all of that!

In a much different scenario, instead of in a theatre/cinema, when at home, it is just so easy to get really comfy and have the desired popcorn or other snacks plus appropriate beverages at hand, and when someone else (usually a family member or close friend) starts talking or rattling something or chewing loudly, it's far more permissible to by a few well-directed words promptly stop that behavior in its tracks. When and if one or others want or need to take a break, regardless of when it falls in the storyline, that's easily done: one can simply hit the "pause" button and the DVD or streamed video pauses for a while so that the viewing audience can do whatever is deemed necessary.....

From time to time, things just pop into my mind. Right now, I am not sure why exactly my Missus loves me as much as she does. I'm just an ordinary guy, with so many mistakes and regrets behind me.

Weird...

Something’s wrong I’m not hating the cold weather yet. Actually, I’m enjoying it so far. 😲

Someone wake me; I must be dreaming.

I’m guessing you’re not as ordinary as you think. Treasure it, my friend!

Whenever I think I might be lucid dreaming, I try to fly. If it works, then I'm dreaming. On the other hand, if it doesn't work, I could still be dreaming. I can't tell you how many times I've escaped from talking crocodiles or dangerous robots just by realizing I could fly away. Then there were the annoying fish, where flying away didn't work, because they just flew after me. But that's a fish story for another day.

Let us know whether it works or not. We'll wait until after you land.

My mother; she passed away a year ago today (or, rather, tonight - as she passed away just before midnight on the night of December 21st).
Time flies they say, this January 1st will be two years since my father’s passing.

I (don’t) remember that game. Another “proof” of the Mandela effect?

Commiserations and condolences.

They say that it (grief, and coping with loss) does get easier with the passing - or passage - of time; however, what I have found is that the periods of time between deep bouts (of grief) has increased somewhat, while the actual bouts themselves seem (some of the time) to have lessened or reduced in intensity.

But, tonight, for obvious reasons, is a bit different. And, even now, something entirely unexpected can set you off, or trigger a memory - bitter-sweet and yet quite lovely.
