I clicked it and got a lovely bit of music :D

I checked logged into G and not, and Chrome and Safari on MacOS (all worked). FWIW, if you actually get to the file resource and it doesn't play in your browser, you can download the file using the icon indicated by the red arrow:

It's a FLAC format, so you might need to snag something like VLC to play it. Not sure what the haps are on an iOS device, assuming the unrecognized file format it kind of just doesn't work ...

I opened it on my Android. It just didn't work on my iPhone. What opened on your device to make it play?

The shot above was in Chrome in MacOS, it opened into G drive and there was a browser based player UI :)

Though it also worked on my iPhone just now, since I have the G drive app, the browser opened the app, and I got a nice playback UI again (and a FLAC file playing on iOS which is pretty cool)

I downloaded the file without listening to it first, but haven't yet gotten around to even taking it out of the downloads folder to enjoy, so don't know if I'll have any problems with it or not. I'm assuming FLAC files will play in iTunes? If not, I have VLC, too.

I brought my bad luck to my husband now. We went in to switch me to AT&T postpaid and we tried to use his name for the first responders discount. They put his social on his parents account so they're trying to say he owes $458. Him and his dad have the same name aside from Jr and III.

It's been fun.
😬 I’m sure that it‘s quite a chore to sort out!

@D.T. Thanks for the tech support to the others on that FLAC download.

Last I knew, Apple, in their infinite wisdom , chose not to support FLAC, the FREE Lossless Audio Codec in iTunes and instead made their own version, ALAC. So another media player, such as VLC, would be needed to play that file.

I was actually pretty shocked when it played in the G-Drive iOS app - and get this, I saved it locally into Files on my iPhone, and it plays from there too! o_O And it's still in FLAC format (so they didn't do some kind of OTF transcoding>>download sort of thing).

Oh I meant to post this for you, I was, *ahem*, ousted, for a couple of days :p

I'm not sure that I understand; what is this G drive that you refer to?

On my computer, neither the original file itself, nor the download would play that piece of music.

The link (URL) that @SandboxGeneral supplied was to Google Drive - a cloud based file storage service - where he uploaded the file. Files in Google Drive can be both viewed/played right in the browser, this goes for most of the common media types, PDF, MPG, PPT, etc., or the file can be downloaded to your local system, and from there "consumed" with an appropriate app.

I'm not sure why it's not just playing in your browser on your (assuming) Mac notebook, I checked it in MacOS Chrome, Safari and Firefox, and even in Chrome on Windows.

That aside, if you download the file, it should be a file named: 07 - Mozart - Violinkonzert Nr 5 A-Dur K219 - III. Rondo (tempo di minuetto).flac

The type of music file is a FLAC (per the extension), that's an open source lossless audio format, and some apps have the proper decoding, some don't. So you could try playing it in QuickTime (it plays there for me), or, the very excellent VLC application, which is an open source audio/video player, and supports nearly every format on the planet (and a few from Mars ...)

Thanks for trying to explain it to me; it still doesn't play, even if downloaded.

I think the issue is that I don't understand what is meant "by an appropriate app."

I don't use the Cloud, and, this is the first time I have heard of Google Drive.

Actually, I was about to ask what "Quick Time" is, but I realise that I am out of my depth.

Never mind.

Well, I'm intrigued with trying to debug things, code, ice makers (a recent fix), mysteries of the universe, so if you're willing, I'd also be willing to try a couple of things.

OK, so you downloaded the file, you can see it in your downloads or desktop in Finder on your Mac. When you say, "it still doesn't play", how are you attempting to play it? Are you double clicking on the file like you would a PDF? And if that's the case, when you double-click that downloaded file, does an app open up?

For example, if I make a totally fabricated file format, and double click it, I get this message in Finder:

1579212268275.png

On other words, the Mac doesn't know what app is used to open/view/play/eat that file. I don't have an app installed that handles that (totally bogus) file format (the format being determined based on the extension, i.e., the characters after the . )

You can also right-lick on a file and choose from a list of all the apps that can open the file, in this case, it's just a single default app:

1579212418850.png

OK, so far?

Now if I right-click ont he downloaded FLAC file, I get about 20 apps that chime in with "I can open that type of file", here's an abbreviated screen shot:

1579212525541.png

Any of those apps I could select and it would play correctly - also note, the top 'default' app, VLC, is the one that will open it if I simply double-click:

(and it's playing in my new Beyerdynamics that I haven't posted about yet :D)

Maybe that will help.

I mean, alternately, I can just convert it to MP3 where it will play in itunes :D

Some people call them "tree rats," but I like squirrels and think they're cute. We have a lot of them around here and from time to time I've been able to capture them with a camera. They're fun to watch when they're scampering around.....
Or caught in the act of eating french fries they plucked out of trash. 😂

The squirrel froze when I came out of the house. Its reaction was priceless ( Busted )

Hope everyone is well here.

Mom had a good day at the rehab yesterday. She even cracked a joke. May it be the first of many good days. :)

Thank you very much for taking the time and trouble to post those detailed instructions.

I followed them - in so far as I was able to do so - and got as far as image three, which is when I realised that I have no app capable of playing this piece of music.

The squirrel's reaction sounds hilarious.

Glad to hear that you mother had a good day at the rehab centre, that makes life a lot easier for everyone else, including herself; how long will she have to stay there?

At least another 3 weeks, fracture sustained during the surgery is taking its time to heal so we have to wait until that heals until mom can put weight on the leg. It's tough on mom but the last two days have been positive for her which is great.

Re: squirrel (I immediately imagined it saying "Oh $&@t! I am doomed!" in a cartoon voice).

Not sure what will solve my ridiculous first world "problem" with digital art (Desired Wacom tablet compatible software is PC only), and the traditional attempts are not sticking. IDK.

And I must ditch eating so much processed food/carbs. I know stress is part of it, but I have to reign it in. Can't believe the grocery order I put in for tonight.

....

Ah, how long before the fracture heals and your mother is able to place weight on it?

And at least three to four more weeks in rehab?

The best of luck with it.

Re: squirrel (I immediately imagined it saying "Oh $&@t! I am doomed!" in a cartoon voice).

That story certainly brought to mind a cartoon image.

Re food, and stress, I'd advise holding off any remedial action until summer, when - firstly - the weather is warmer, (frankly, you need carbs in cold weather), and, secondly, there is a wide variety of fresh fruit and vegetables available, so one's (healthy) diet does not become tedious and repetitive.

At the moment, I'd imagine that you are under more than enough stress as it is, and if food offers some solace, go for it; you need some sources of comfort, and - contrary to the nonsense of New Year's resolutions - these changes tend to be easier to contemplate and implement - in summer.

Fracture, not sure how long that will take to heal.

Carbs well it's not that easy for me. My body is already showing warning signs of this diet so I have to course correct sooner rather than later. Healthy carbs are fine, processed not so much.

Bad carbs, I can't seem to avoid them!

Oh boy. This rainy weather has turned me into a lazy hermit. On a positive note, my Pro Max sounds great playing YouTube.

I hope this doesn’t come across too badly, but I haven’t noticed you posting much. I hope you’re doing well.
Oh, yeah I had a hysterectomy in April of last year. It's been a bit hectic. Lots of big life changes came after that. I'm back though. Got myself the 11 Pro Max, so I'm hanging around the forums a bit more now.

Hope you are doing well and thank you for noticing!
