Today, 22nd April, would have been 1 year of employment, at my last company.
Due to Covid-19, I was made redundant on 1st April, and it was no bloody joke either.

And, to think, I took this position over another, due to me feeling it offered more security.
Haha, flipping hilarious; here we are now.

Very sorry to learn this.

No joke, agreed.

Try, if at all possible, to stay positive.

Sorry to hear about your job loss. It sucks, plain and simple.

That said, I've made some choices that, for whatever reason, didn't turn out the way I hoped or expected, and over time actually wound up in a better place. Sometimes that took a while to realize.

When it happens to me I try to remember the adage "One door closes, and another door opens." It's hard to appreciate that sentiment while it's happening to you, but in my experience, it usually turns out to be so.

Best of luck. It will be interesting to hear how it turns out for you, in the longer term.

Very good, thoughtful, helpful, positive - and yes, a very true, post, @ivantwilliams. Best of luck.

@Matz: Your point about how (almost unknown) doors (ultimately leading to a better place, or situation), can open unexpectedly at a later time, - and how the earlier (miserable) experience can make you somehow more receptive to this possible opportunity, - is very, very, true, in my experience.

I am starting to get more and more frustrated by the utter stupidity, idiocy, and carelessness (let alone, rudeness) of some people that use Covid-19 precautions. Now that people wear gloves and masks I keep finding them on the ground, or in shopping carts.

I also keep seeing people removing the mask in order to talk to a clerk, or to take a breather, or whatever. I actually saw one person removing the mask, put it on the cart's baby seat, just to then pick it up and place it on her effin' mouth again.

No way around it, it sucks. It really does suck, and I do hope that you'll find another job as soon as possible. I still remember the awful days of unemployment (in retrospective, I should've not have panicked as I did). Also, in retrospective, I now know that it was the best thing that has ever happened to me, professionally speaking. It open all sort of possibilities, and now I do a job that I love, a rewarding job, that is also well paying (and very hard).

Well, don't dwell to much on hypothesis. What happened happened, and you have no idea what would've happened had you taken the other offer. Your past is now outside of your sphere of control, so let it go; don't think of it, don't think of work anniversaries or such (I know that it's much easier said than done, but it must be said).

The silver lining is that your current unemployment will be easy to explain to the next prospective employers. It might not seem much now, but the ability to explain longish period of unemployment is one of the most important things when looking for a new job; right now you have a get out of jail free card: Covid-19 (which is indeed the truth). The businesses that will interview will know about Covid-19's impact on business because they feel it, so they will be able to relate to it.

Let me also recommend to use this "time off" to learn new skills that are somewhat attached to your line of work. I don't know, if you do 2D graphics, you might want to learn the basics of 3D graphics or something; in other words use this time doing deep work (see here and most especially here ) so that you can become So Good They Can't Ignore You (see here).

Again, it sucks but I am sure that sooner rather than later you'll see that this obstacle made you stronger. I wish you all the luck in the world.

Rather an extensive responsive, and it is certainly appreciated, despite my short response.

THANKS

Am I the only one who is plagued by dreams including literally everything I've read, talked about, heard, etc?

I do not think my dreams could get any more bizarre. I'm in a school, hearing a song I hate, while eating cheese, and I got hit by Bernie Sanders car when I went outside to go for a walk because I felt trapped.

This recent flurry of posts reminded me of something I’d hoped to forget.

One morning, I made a latte, using a Starbucks machine of some sort I had at the time.

As I recall, it was delicious, except that it must have had a bit of ground coffee that had found its way into the cup.

Having been a long-time consumer of camp coffee (aka cowboy coffee) where the grounds are literally dumped into a coffee pot and boiled, I had come to appreciate chewing my coffee.

So I did what I would normally do. I chewed, in absentminded fashion; then stopped, with the dawning realization that what I was chewing was no ordinary coffee ground.

I examined the ground, and it turned out to be an earwig.

To my dismay, it was only half of an earwig.

The creature had apparently clung to the underside where the coffee comes out, just above the cup, and then let go.

From that point forward I checked the machine quite carefully every time I used it.

I am not fond of earwigs.
🤮

You are not alone. I believe many of us are dreaming more now. While I have not been run down by Bernie Sanders, my wife and I were having coffee with Oprah Winfrey in the train station in Montreal for some unexplained reason. Other dreams have been more pleasurable (not a fan of Oprah) but every night is a surprise.

I don't know. The post was prompted by me writing a text with "Sheriff" which became "Sharing", "cheating" which became "cheering", "dead" which became "deadline", and "mansions" which became "Manson's".
Go figure.

Addendum: don't let me start on how many times "meditation" becomes "mediation".
Grr and don't even get me started on apostrophes. Always seems to use the wrong word between things like were vs we're its vs it's... I can fix the one by just spelling out the contractions, but that can't fix it adding the apostrophes where they don't belong.

It's true, isn't it. The expression "smiling eyes" has a nice ring to it but doesn't really cut it over a mask after all.

I know at least one caregiver who just bought an SE 2 iPhone because it still has touch ID instead of FaceID, and he had grown tired of punching in a passcode.

You must be concerned over your sister's exposure to the coronavirus, I sure hope she can stay healthy.
Exactly one of the reasons other than price I ordered one too. Plus it will be more portable when away from home. If I want a bigger screen at home, I can use my larger phone on WiFi or just use my laptop. When are new iPads coming? Might get one of those when a new model drops. Just regular though, not a Pro.

I think I'm going to start a series of "Real messages at the World HQ ..."

I think I might have to sleep... less.
Lately I usually go to bed around 11pm and I wake up at 6:30-ish. I must admit that I feel groggy all day long. Today I woke up at 5 and I felt fantastic like I used to when I woke up at 4:30ish/5-ish.
The main issue for me is actually waking up. That first step is always a challenge for me - it doesn't matter if I sleep 3 hours or 10. Go figure.

As long as I get a nice cup of tea, bowl of porridge and a shower it doesn’t matter what time I’m awake. I’ll be fine.

I learned a long time ago that when I wake up I have to get up. Otherwise if I decide to snooze a few minutes it turns into 90 minutes and then I feel like a train has hit me and I can't even figure out how to make coffee.

At least if I come downstairs when I first wake up, I almost know what I'm doing when I get to the kitchen even if I only slept 5 or 6 hours. I draw the line at 4.5 hours as a minimum though. Less than that and I'm a hazard to my continued existence, even if only because I'm grouchy and likely to say anything to anyone after I've had that coffee and can formulate a thought.

I’ve never understood people who hit the snooze button. Although to be honest I never set an alarm these days. My internal body clock gets me up.

Can't do porridge in warm weather. Not here at least.

Can't do porridge in any weather.

Well, sometimes dozing in a nice, warm, cosy bed can be exceedingly pleasant.

And, while I can and do get up, there has never been a point in my life when I could have been classed as a morning person.

I’m not a morning person either. I just don’t have the ability to lie in anymore. I just always wake up around the same time.

You might not believe it, but sometimes I do not even realize it. And this is true even if I put the alarm clock at the other side of the room.

On Sleep and wake up times: Getting more than 5 hours is great, but after 7 hours I'm cranky (and I'm already cranky now. So super crunchy cranky.)

Coworker slipped on another person's name while he was training me on a new task. He kept saying "Megan Fox" and finally caught himself. 😂 I had to keep myself from laughing out loud, because I am not sure if my coworkers have a sense of humor yet.

It made that moment.

Mom is trying to right herself emotionally and we finally retired her iPad 2 today.

I had a very good work day: I want more of those.

Other news, my left arm is finally strong enough to open cans of beans with our ancient manual can opener. :)

I guess that counts for exciting here right now.

And tomorrow is Friday.🙂

Battle of the Planets

Joe Russo updated Collider on his planned live-action Battle of the Planets series.

It’s not going to be a direct adaptation of the series. It’s going to be our own story that we tell surrounding a group of genetically altered kids who are involved in a space war… That could take months of gestating, and trying to figure out what the new mythology is. And then we commit that to a bible, and then from that bible we do some artwork as exploration, and once we have artwork that we’re inspired by we then commit that to a script. So we’re in the bible phase for Battle of the Planets at the moment.
