Any recommendations here on good hair clippers for home use? I'm going through the same adjustment, had my wife cut my hair a couple of days ago and we used the old rechargeable clipper I've used for years for beard trimming, but it isn't very good. Lots of choices online, I'm wondering what folks here have had good experience with?
I don't have any recommendations, but this is what I have on order.

Thanks. Many of the clippers are currently unavailable on Amazon, not that I'm desperate to get one immediately.

I have a prediction - 2 years from now there are going to be thousands of hair clippers being sold at garage sales by folks who purchased them for use during this stay-at-home time, and aren't using them any more. Or maybe 1 year from now (6 months?).

I don’t know. Maybe the buzz cut will be the look and all those barber shops will be shut!

If I spend £50 on some hair clippers I’m not going to start using the hairdresser again any time soon.

I think that once people become used to a proper professional haircut from someone who has been trained to perform this action? service? - they will not return to cutting their own hair except as an emergency.

The feel, shape and appearance of properly and neatly cut (and shaped) hair will be sufficient to persuade most people that whatever they have paid is well worth the cost.

I was thinking that what would end up in garage sales would be assorted kitchen items, offered for sale by people who took up baking and cooking during lockdowns but who'd rather resume patronizing restaurants.

Agreed.

Even now, (and I am a very good cook/chef), I haven't taken up home baking; this requires precision and patience and a close attention to detail.

I'm more comfortable with the type of cooking that calls for "a bit of this and a lot of that (heads/bulbs of garlic)" an allows you to tweak as ingredients and taste preferences call for.

I also thought about that after I went to buy clippers and every store in town was out of stock. Amazon was out of stock for immediate shipment too of most all clippers. I wasn't surprised at all at that.

But I do wonder how the haircut industry, for men anyhow, will be once this is all over. I certainly do not intend on returning to my previous style of cut and will just do it all myself.

I gave my beard trimmers ago this morning. Ran out of battery before I finished. But the sides look a lot neater. The back is more of a challenge.

This picture is from a long time ago.

When I finally shaved my head, after struggling in denial (and vanity) for years, I felt liberated. It’s one of the best choices I’ve made.

It’s easy to maintain; takes about seven minutes, every other day, while in the shower.

I’m the one on the right.

I’m not there yet. My dad is 75 and still has a full head of hair.

All it took is one time for me, like 8 or years ago, and that was it, have not paid for a haircut since :)

If you have a bit of manual dexterity, it just takes a few times, and you'll pick up a good "feel" for how to do it, a few techniques (like I swap between three different guards, purple >> dark blue >> orange, hahaha, I don't even remember the depth :)

I used my beard trimmer last week to cut all my hair off. I was getting tired of it growing out and had to chop it all down to 1.8mm. My hair hasn't been as long as it was for more than 20 years, even pre-Marine Corps haircut. 3 or 4 months of growth was all I could take.

Ordered some proper hair clippers to start doing this myself from now on like many others. Clippers are hard to come by these days and it will be a couple of weeks before they're due to arrive.

Reminds me of the old days of mail order catalogs. Send in your payment and in 6 to 8 weeks you should receive your product. There was no 2-day Prime shipping back then.

I’m thinking of shaving my beard off for the summer. I’m bald on top so not having a beard makes me look err, completely bald?!

Thing is is that it takes a couple of months to grow a beard and only a couple of minutes to shave it off. Hopeless at trying to decide what to do. As soon as I shave it off I’ll miss it! 3rd world problems I know!

I'm keeping my beard. I hate shaving and only shave my neck to have a clean appearance. I keep my beard trimmed and neat though.

A couple of months? It’s a long beard I take it?

I’ve had a beard since my teens. I also keep it trimmed. Years ago I grew it long but couldn’t be bothered now. That was when I used to bleach it and dye it blue.

Been watching the Space X launch w/ 2 astronauts aboard... so far so good, the separation of 2nd stage is complete and Dragon's en route to the space station!

I can’t grow a long beard. Hate it when I can “feel” it on my face. Best I can do nowadays is this.

Well, we are clearly long lost brothers ... :D

Funny, I just got some shaving gel in today from Amazon, I've tried all sorts of boutique-y stuff, just finishing up my last bit of Cremo, and going back to Nivea Sensitive gel 3 cans, $9, it'll last me a year :D

^Yep, I relate to both of you. Can't grow a "real" beard to save my life, but have had a goatee (or maybe a Van Dyke? the 'stache and the chin area connect is what I'm trying to say) for about twenty years now. I've grown pretty fond of it, but still fantasize about having a Billy Gibbons -style beard every now and again. It would be fun to keep small woodland creatures nested in there.

There's this thing (I really have no idea what it's called in English) in our yard where occupants can take bigger items they wish to get rid of; shelves, beds, mattresses, anything other than electronics basically. Well, there are a couple of beds on there already, and I just noticed that there's also a dude sleeping on one of them. He looks peaceful and it's warm outside so I guess he could have passed out in a worse location. He's also sleeping on his side, so I guess it's not his first rodeo. Will need to check up on him in a bit.

Also, restaurants and bars are opening again on Monday. There are limitations, obviously, but it's happening. Can't say I've really missed going to bars and/or restaurants during all of this, but it's nice that at least some people are slowly getting back to their livelihoods. Now if only the patrons would act rationally and obey the rules, that would be great.

I have a goatee. Which is the worst kind. I still have to trim my beard and shave!

I always ask people’s opinion of my beard. Yes or no? I get a 50/50 response. My last girlfriend of 10 years hated it but my recent (now ex) girlfriend loves it. Sister loves it, sister in law says I look younger without. Me, who’s view I know is most important, can’t decide. The only thing I’ll say is that it is great not having to save every day. Saves time, easy.

When I was clean shaven I used to use a traditional safety razor, brush and cream. I shaved up, down and side to side. I enjoyed the ritual of the procedure but it was time consuming. And some of the blades you can buy are lethal!

I now use a beard trimmer, beard oil and conditioner. Much easier but still think “clean shave for a few months and start again in September”?

If some of you remember, I quit coffee and all caffeine a while back. Well, I fell off the wagon and started having a cup after dinner when I felt drowsy, except that turned into every night for about a week. Then one night I did not need coffee and the next evening the headache arrived on schedule that lasted 2 days. So now I’m resisting coffee and tea once again.

My question is how much coffee over what period of time must be consumed to result in a headache, when you stop, just one cup? There must be a threshold. Of note, my cup is 16oz. I’m drinking instant coffee which despite the negative reviews is not so bad, but it does not have any caffeine info on the bottle, such as as how much caffeine does a tablespoon of instant coffee have in it? :)

Some quick research online revealed the amount of caffeine in 1 TBS of instant coffee could range from 5mg to 50-60 mg. 🤔

I don't experience your headaches but my heart condition (POTS) is triggered by caffeine. About a half a cup of coffee would have me passing out within a few minutes. Soda, it's about one bottle. Sweet tea in the bottle, it seems more similar to coffee than soda though I guess brand would make a huge difference in all.

Lots of rain coming in Texas. Hopefully no tornadoes tag along.
