Hope everyone here had a good holiday season.

I started the year 2021 by breaking a finger in my left hand in two places, so that's nice. The one thing that's been keeping me occupied, not to mention sane, playing guitar, is off the table for at least three to four weeks, plus the rehab after the splint comes off. Just wonderful, considering that I wasn't even under the influence when it happened. Upside is, I can finally bring the guitar to the local luthier for him to make it the best it can be, which can take a few weeks based on his popularity. So not all bad.

Oh well, even more wonderful, a few of my friends have been showering me with books to read now that I don't have much else to do. Something I haven't really done in a while. Reading has always been an ebb and flow kind of thing for me, I could go for a long time without reading a whole book, and then I'd read many in a row, and it has worked for me. What's new, now, is that most of the books on my table are fiction. I've read that reading fiction can have good effects on the reader's mental faculties, so I guess that's what I'm going to try now. Can't let those mental faculties fall by the wayside, now can we?

Ran a couple of errands today, brought home the external drives that have been in my safe deposit box this past month and their updated replacements are now resting comfortably in there..... When I get around to it in a day or so I'll update the ones I brought home so that they'll be ready to go back to the bank next month.

Speaking of hot chocolate, someone on another forum is all excited about a Christmas gift his wife gave him, something called the Hotel Chocolat System, which involves a machine plus various packets of hot chocolate mixtures. He loves it, and since he tends to be rather fussy about food and beverages that he consumes, this suggests that the new machine and the beverages it produces are pretty darned good and special.

Yes, I've been hopping in-and-out of The Washington Post all day, keeping caught up on the aftermath of yesterday's events.

Note to Mefisto: sorry to hear about the finger, but happy, very happy to hear about your renewed interest in and time spent in reading!!! :)
 
I'm a retired librarian, that's why I asked! :) Definitely educators/teachers are also strong proponents of reading! My own mother was a teacher and she early-on instilled a love for books and reading in me.....
I need to get back into reading. I've been hooked inside the world of manga lately but I think a nice romance novel with a hint of mystery would be pleasant.

I sometimes find that I am running out of things to keep my mind occupied. With my physical pain, it's an absolute necessity to keep either mind or body active constantly. Else I'll end up suffering with my mental illness.

A library card, it might be time for me to get one. I wonder if, even though I don't live in the small town my husband works in, they'd give us a library card. It's more convenient a drive from my location.
 
Still furious about a phone call I had yesterday. I phoned a local tyre fitter that I have used for the past 15 years about a price for 2 front tyres on my Honda CR-V. The guy on the other end wasn’t in charge and couldn’t give me an exact price because the boss was out for the afternoon. He wanted me to commit to ordering the tyres in though without a price. I told him I needed to know a price first, to which he said ‘we are the cheapest around so don’t worry’. To be honest he was probably right as they usually are but I told him I had a price from another local supplier already so I wanted to make sure it was either the same or similar.

This is where the mood changed. He said ‘well if you’ve gone somewhere else for a quote without coming to us first, we don’t want your business. I’ve scribbled your number out now to that’s the way it is’. Before I could respond he slammed the phone down on me!! Always been a pleasure dealing with this garage and I’m fuming. It must be good to be on a situation where in the middle of a pandemic where small businesses are struggling, this one can be rude to customers. I made sure I posted about this on my Facebook so all my friends can see, many of which also use this company. Quite a few have said they won’t go there again and some have heard about them having this attitude with other customers too. Wow!

It could be just one numpty although it would still be very annoying. If the owner has been there for 15 years he obviously understands the customer relationship and said numpty will be in for an unpleasant morning

One guy said he moved away from the area and when visiting he decided to get his tyres done. When he arrived he mentioned he was back visiting and a guy told him if he wasn’t a regular customer then they weren’t interested. It seems they’ve got a locals only mentality which I hadn’t realised. I last used them in May too.

Nothing like getting a mail preview for a county clerk letter but not seeing it in your physical mailbox. Now I get to wonder what it is until Monday. Anxiety here we go!
