I like etymology - albeit not enough to seriously study it. I was one of those kids that could spend hours randomly browsing an etymological dictionary, and I could easily do the same on the interwebs.

Today's word is "aftermath". I guess I never realized that in this context "math" comes from "mowing" ("maeo") and that therefore it's a term with roots in agriculture.
I see what you did there. ;)

Changed bedlinen, put on a wash, trotted to the local store to pick up my organic milk and organic cream, and buy some sparkling mineral water, and butter.

Paid some bills, and ordered some beer.

Treated myself to a mug of hot chocolate on my return.

And now, am finally reading the news reports.

Aftermath......I really like etymology; a fascinating area, very rewarding to study.

Hot chocolate? Yes today does call for it. I’ll have one later.

Today was the first day this winter that I realised that I had a craving for a mug of hot chocolate; I didn't really want coffee, but longed for some hot chocolate.

Hot chocolate is not a beverage I treat myself to all that often, but there are certain days in deepest, darkest, dreariest winter - and today was one such - where nothing else will hit that spot.

And the hot chcoloate was, yes, divine.

I’ll have a couple more teas yet. Then a hot chocolate before (well probably in!) bed.

Strange day today. My partner’s birthday so was doing the prep for a special meal when my cat came home. He had a little somet to eat, turned round and literally just keeled over and died. He was 19 and has lived a very good life, we’ve had him since he was weaned. Also it was quick and we were with him rather than it happening outside where we might never had found out. The house seems very empty without him

Which hot chocolate do you recommend?

Oh wow, it seems that he wanted a last meal with you guys before going to cat heaven (what a mess it might be!). Sorry to hear. Recently lost a cat, it doesn't feel good.
However, we got a kitten during the Christmas break so my oldest cats are now angry at us.

Today, I used the standard Bourneville Cocoa.

And, I prepared it with a mix of hot milk (which made it wonderfully creamy) and hot water; plus, some brown sugar, although I take my tea and coffee without sugar.

And, there were even chocolate biscuits - a Viscount and a Jaffa Cake (my biscuit supply needs to be replenished); but, this is a time of year when such treats are both necessary and very welcome.

Actually, while I like, (love) artisan and Belgian beers, fine wines from Burgundy, seriously good Ethiopian and Kenyan coffee, I find that standard hot chocolate works better than some of the more specialised stuff. (And yes, I briefly and fleetingly inspected that rabbit hole, and found it too troublesome).

Commiserations, but it sounds as though he had a great life with you, and that you had a great life with him.

Ah, really sorry to hear that. Cats seem to die as enigmatically as they live. My childhood cat died back in October a few hours before an Apple event while I was still trying to get social media animations finished. I heard him meowing in the kitchen like he'd seen a mouse, and then he just kinda went limp. Oddly, I still mistake things on the ground, like clothing, for him when I first walk into a room.

It's funny how one can get attached, as we are to our cat now 15. It was also very sad when our previous cat died 15 years ago. But 19 is a very long life for a cat, and sounds like he/she was well taken care of.
