When I was getting my knees replaced, they gave me opioid tablets (not Oxycontin, that made me vomit). I was glad to get off them because they gave me weird dreams.

Now I find that for me, two ibuprofen and two paracetamol are as good as one Panadeine (paracetamol + codeine). Which is a good thing because my doctor won't give me a prescription for Panadeine any more.

I am not giving anybody advice, but apparently one ibuprofen + one paracetamol work synergistically, and are more effective than two of either.

And 2 8-hour Tylenol seem to work better for my pains than 2 12-hour Aleve. And I basically trade stomach complications for potential liver damage. *shrug* But Tylenol seems to work so well...

Does anyone know of any app (for mobile) or browser addon (Firefox or Safari for desktop) to translate comments on YouTube or Instagram posts easily without having to copy/paste into Google translate? FB can auto-translate comments and posts (often with hilarious results to be sure) as can Twitter. Instagram only translates posts. Funny that YouTube is owned by Google and Instagram by Facebook but they don't seem to benefit from the easier translation.

Here, possibly?

Edit: This one requires, wait for it, Chrome... *sigh*

My wife says "Can I borrow a pen, please?"

So I gave her this --

to which she uttered the fatal words "Oh, I like this one...".

What is on my mind is the news that Army personnel involved in what has become know as the ‘Blackhawk Down’ incident in Somalia are getting their just do, some who were my friends and former teammates and our reunion in Mogadishu, unfortunately turned tragic.

“The U.S. Army is upgrading the combat awards for 60 veterans who served in Operation Gothic Serpent in 1993, a battle in Somalia more commonly known as "Blackhawk Down" for its pop culture portrayals.

Fifty-eight of the service members who fought in the battle will see their awards upgraded to Silver Stars while the other two will be upgraded to Distinguished Flying Crosses, according to the U.S. Army Special Operations Command.

"On the afternoon of Oct. 3, [1993] armed militants shot down two MH-60 Black Hawk helicopters, after which U.S. ground forces converged on the two downed aircraft to recover the personnel," an Army press release read. "The ensuing intense firefight resulted in the loss of 18 American Soldiers and remains an especially significant point in the history of the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Special Operations Command specifically."

The upgrades happened after former Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy directed the board in charge of such awards to revisit awards that had already been issued. “

To be honest most of what I know of that incident comes from the film. Not sure how accurate it was, but pretty intense.

The movie was fairly accurate with what they showed, which surprised me. There was much more involved, before and after the incident.
I'm sure.

Tomorrows game is on my mind as well as an upcoming trip to Norfolk to see my Mum. First time I've seen here in a good few years. Long way to go though. 4 hours each way, so booked a hotel. Hope to take my camera and do some photography.

Roads are getting busy. Safe trip and enjoy.

I tried Jaffa Cakes, and based on the pictures I’ve seen, mine were severely messed up in transit.

The chocolate and orange jam fused into one layer, and that layer was fused with the cake, so it was a box of three Jaffa tubes.

Plus, neither of the first two numbers in the expiration date go above 12, so I can’t tell if it’s in d/m/y or m/d/y format. If I had to hazard a guess, it’s the one that puts them out of date.

All in all, not too bad.

Just took some sleeping pills with Diphenhydramine. In two hours my arm will be numb and I'll be having the best sleep of my life.

It should be d/m/y if they came from the U.K. as we do it the correct way. Sorry they didn’t survive the journey. They are a nice treat.
But as I’m being good at the moment, I’m not having treats. In fact at this morning’s weigh in I’m at my lowest ever. 11 stone 2 lb.
All the exercise is really helping.

Ah, Jaffa Cakes.

Decent Brother always adored them, and devoured them as a child.

These days, I make a point of having some (always) to hand; a classic and with good reason, and nice to know that they are in the cupboard should an urge to snack attack you some wet and miserable afternoon.

I might add that this is a biscuit (cake?) that goes awfully well with tea (and I write as someone who passionately loves my daily cup/mug/pot of coffee).

Biscuit or a cake? It’s like a halfway house.

Enjoy the grill and the fireworks! I had the honour of being invited to the US embassy in Geneva in 2019 (as we arrange visits and presentations every semester for our American students) to celebrate July 4th and the 50th anniversay of the moon landing. Lots of fun actually and a fantastic buffet. Sliders, tacos, sushi (well really the latter two are indicative of the "melting pot" right?) etc.
