My last day of work before starting a two-week vacation. I can't recall the last time I took two full weeks of vacation. Seems like a long time, but I know all too well that it will seem to fly by.

The first week is a staycation, with a day trip or two, and catching up on some chores around the farm. The second week will be a trip to Colorado to visit family.

This will also be the first time in more than two years that I've traveled by air.

Another fine opportunity to practice living in the moment.

Enjoy. Today is the last day of my week off. I’ve never taken 2 weeks off since I left school many decades ago.

I revisited the documentary Into Great Silence (I see it's on youtube for free).

For those that don't know this documentary, it's entirely shot at the Grande Chartreuse, the main monastery of the Chartusian order. Monks vow their silence, and live within the boundaries of the monastery. No visitor is allowed. In 1985 the director contacted the abbot and asked to film inside the monastery; to the director's surprise, the abbot actually replied saying that the monks needed "some time to think about it." Fifteen years later, the director received a letter saying that the monks made the decision, and allowed him to film as long as he lived like them for six months. I can only describe the documentary with one word: quiet. The documentary has no voiceover, and the lighting has not been changed in any way whatsoever. It's a very boring documentary, on purpose. Watch it after work at night, and you'll fall asleep with the most beautiful environment sounds and beautiful imagery you can think of. Now, contrary to the myth, they don't live in total silence. They talk to the cats they feed and play with, they have some fun playing in the snow, and of course they read and chant the Scriptures. However, they limit their words to their essentiality, no wasted words.

Wonderful.

No wasted words but they talk to the cats? 🤔

Christmas music. Spawn of the devil. If I don’t like Maria Carrie the rest of the year, why would I in December?
I think it wouldn't be so bad if the music wasn't so annoying. Like if it's more vaguely winter songs rather than strictly Christmas. At my old job, they would play an okayish, but not great cover of Fleet Fox's White Winter Hymnal. That was nice.

I don’t listen to the radio or anything else that might play Christmas music of any kind. That’s what iTunes and my AirPod Pro’s are good for when our and about.

It's when I find myself absent-mindedly humming along to the background holiday music in the food store that really bugs me. And no, Mr. Store Manager, your background music still won't make me subliminally want to buy a big tin of butter cookies!

I rarely go to the supermarket, but if I do I always listen to my music rather than theirs. But I try and go even less in December.

Apocryphally, St Francis used to preach sermons to birds.
Although if he had tried it with one of these guys

they would have argued back...

BTW, talking with cats is never wasted words. They will listen to you, evaluate your arguments, then totally ignore you.

PS, the crest retracts. It's only up like that when they want to argue. Which is a lot.

Let's put it this way. Sometimes a conversation with our maste... with our cats is much better than a conversation with some hoomans. I mean, I never had to discuss with a cat if hoomans landed on the Moon or if the Earth is flat.

Brilliant post.

But, do, please, allow me to direct you to the poem by W. B. Yeats entitled:

The Cat And The Moon..

THE CAT went here and there
And the moon spun round like a top,
And the nearest kin of the moon
The creeping cat looked up.
Black Minnaloushe stared at the moon,
For wander and wail as he would
The pure cold light in the sky
Troubled his animal blood.
Minnaloushe runs in the grass,
Lifting his delicate feet.
Do you dance, Minnaloushe, do you dance?
When two close kindred meet
What better than call a dance?
Maybe the moon may learn,
Tired of that courtly fashion,
A new dance turn.
Minnaloushe creeps through the grass
From moonlit place to place,
The sacred moon overhead
Has taken a new phase.
Does Minnaloushe know that his pupils
Will pass from change to change,
And that from round to crescent,
From crescent to round they range?
Minnaloushe creeps through the grass
Alone, important and wise,
And lifts to the changing moon
His changing eyes.

Do not underestimate negative relationships. You have a deep bond with those you hate, fear, or envy. Time to dissolve that.
- Sadhguru

Have had one of those in my life, not close though. Someone who tried to take power over me. Also some kind of love and fear. It’s dissolving
Fortunately I have meditated enough to be able to sit through storms too 😤🧘🏻‍♀️❤️‍🔥

Ok, I was going to write about something else, and I might later, but first, this --

Koalas wearing Fitbits

Koalas have been issued Fitbits. Now, Fitbits (for active people) and Koalas (not the most active people) are not normally mentioned in the same sentence. But we Aussies have managed to do so.

What I really like is that they would only wear black ones. Black is cool, and Koalas are cool, so perhaps it's appropriate.

I totally agree with this statement. Yesterday one of my cats decided to watch episode 3 of Midnight Mass on Netflix with us. Eyes wide open, looking at the screen, using me as a comfortable cushion until it became time for a quick nap.
