Yes, I'm also holding out on the heating, (gosh, I remember the days when I used to have it on from mid September) but expect that I may have to succumb in the next week or so.

The pesto is delicious with fresh, French bread.

I put the heating on today for a blast. Our direct debit was put up to over £400 a month but we’ve got it down to £240ish now. We are £976 in credit yet they wanted us to pay more! Put the heating on for an hour blast this afternoon as our house has 70mm insulation all round so it’s pretty efficient. We are keeping it off as much as possible this winter

70mm? I hope there is more than that in the loft. We have around 300mm.

With the volume of work that will be coming at me for Nov and Dec, seriously wondering if I will come through it/year end, unscathed...

My mind is tripping out about the fact that in the App Store app, I can rate the "Most Helpful" reviews as helpful or not helpful, but I can't rate any other reviews. I simply don't have the option to rate them as helpful or not helpful, nothing happens when I force click on a review.

Is that some sort of weird shadow ban? What would be the point? I can submit reviews, which may or may not appear, depending on the whims of the developers or moderators, but can't rate reviews that aren't already in the Most Helpful section. I've never heard of not allow the rating of reviews. This happens on all platforms: iOS 16.x, macOS Ventura, and of course, the Apple TV os, where you can't rate reviews or really see them anyway.

Oh, and the fact that I don't like the winter months. That's always on my mind.

All good here thank you. Glad things are okay there. How’s work?
Um…it’s not.

Dealing with a very rough patch here in addition to not making the cut at this job, but I’ll spare everyone the details.

So I am seeing myself as good here and will resume the job search when this other hurdle is attended to.

Glad you and the Mrs. are doing well.

Wishing everyone a great day and week.

Sorry to hear that. Good luck with the hurdles.

True. But here people are already having to choose between heat or eat. Borrowing money for some meaningless festival is not going to help with those interest rates.
Glad I don’t have to worry about such things.
Personally I celebrate the Winter Solstice although I join in when the family wants to celebrate CHristmas and Boxing Day.

Completely understand if people aren't interested and also I guess there's plenty who have traumatic reasons for the lack of interest that should be respected.

But, I've just enjoyed Nov 5 and I love all these winter fiery (and less fiery) celebrations and I don't think it's much of a stretch to suspect we've been doing them for hundreds of thousands of years... To me it all just feels right whatever it s called and to whatever God we're supposedly genuflecting too... But whatever it's called we've got to keep that dark from rising somehow... ;)

I also have no doubt that many Romans complained about the total madness and expense of Saturnalia and in the British neolithic there were quite a few who resented having to travel for weeks on end down south, to meet people they hardly knew and then be expected to show off and waste lots of pigs and cattle in that great midwinter slaughter...

Twas ever thus I guess...

I visited twitter for about 10 minutes. My gosh what an awful place, regardless of the new management. It gets worse with time.

Now I have to find some way to clean my soul. I already envision Dante exiting the last circle of hell step by mistake into the Twittersphere and say “f- this, take me back inside”.

Couldn't agree more!

Twitter is THE trash pool of our time.

A few months ago I made a revisit to that place. Made a mistake and said something nice to an ex-superstar that I listen to some music of earlier in my life. I never have regretting anything so much!
I got a demonic stalker!

I changed my twitter name, I made my account protected anyway. I took down my website. Not a big deal as I don't have any use of it at the moment.
This sic-ko is still energetically stalking me, a few months later.
But I have increased my knowledge A LOT in how to protect my energy-field during this time.

Try it @yaxomoxay - plenty of knowledge is out there about this today.
I mean really, picking up, being attacked of, bad energy from others can make us sick, for real.
Especially as there are people who consciously are practicing attacking people energetically, and are out to steal people's energy and life force. It's for real!
If I ever get any threat in the physical from this sic-ko, I would contact the cops immediately.

But I have learned a lot of how real narcissist works during this time. It's a serious disease!
Fortunately I studied Shamanism a long time ago when it was pretty esoteric. Learned a lot more about energy etc. along the way. I've had use for it! That knowledge have also increased collectively today.

Burn twitter down 🔥

Sorry to hear that and the very best of luck with the hurdles, both personal and professional.

Above all, remember to try to be kind to yourself.

@yaxomoxay: I'm laughing reading this post, but, you are not wrong. Love the Dante reference.

@Lioness~: Best of luck dealing with the deranged stalker; I have had this dismal and depressing experience - they are so obsessed and tenacious and weirdly entitled - and it is a deeply unpleasant experience to have to deal with.

I remember somebody making the claim to me that my career as a scientist would die unless I tweeted about my research. My my, how times have changed...

if you think about it, and just to remain on the literary trail, all these users doing twitter feuds (about 98% of the user base) are just small Don Quixiotes fighting with electronic windmills.

It’s just insane. I don’t know how but twitter ends up being worse than even TikTok.

I see this as a meditation challenge - the pseudo world is dying more and more and more...
My favourite meditation teacher just made new material available to me, very timely.
So I'll be fine.

Luckily, I never got any of that TikTok stuff. Facebook or Instagram ask me to reactivate it, every time I click on something that is stored there. No, no, no!

I am still on FB (for family across the Atlantic) and Twitter, but I have only ever used the latter to alert people to a fire in a field near a village a few miles down the road. Can't say I find twitter very compelling and FB is just downright invasive and sleazy.

I can’t stand Facebook, but I do have it and I do need it for work. I much prefer Instagram, however I am afraid that the push on the so-called Reels (to make it more TikTok like) will be its downfall. For the record, I removed my follow from anything that is even remotely political or controversial.

Many, many years ago when Twitter first started up, I joined up. I looked around for about 5 minutes and never went back.
I have a presence in FB (under another name, with no personal details) that I use about once a year to look up something/body.
Otherwise, MacRumors is my Internet presence. It's full of so many nice people.:):):):):)

Couldn’t agree more. Lots of awfully nice people on here. Very knowledgeable to when you need some advice etc.

Catching up with this thread and I'm sorry to hear that things apparently haven't worked out well on the job front...sometimes that happens, what seemed like a great opportunity to the benefit of all sides just doesn't quite pan out for whatever reasons. I'm sure that this has been a painful experience, but hopefully one from which there is some value to be gleaned too, which can be carried on forward.

Hang in there, best to you as you deal with the rough patch and hurdles that have (hopefully temporarily) obstructed your pathway! Life is tricky at times; just when we may think we're doing really just fine, an unexpected and unanticipated obstacle jumps up in our way that we have to sort out and move beyond. All you can do is your best and just keep on moving forward....

It is nice to be back home from Africa. I hope the peace agreement in Ethiopia holds so much needed aid can be delivered the starving people, so many have died needlessly, almost 500,000.
I figured you had been off grid somewhere. Welcome back. The weather must have been a shock to the system!
And yes let’s hope the situation improves for that part of Africa.
