In no particular order the following are on my mind:

Good friends.

Interviews.

And how cost of living conditions have dictated that one seeks out well regarded people (companies) who can carry out repairs to (costly) devices rather than purchasing brand new ones.

My son's three main food groups --

Pizza base
Pizza topping
Pizza crust
I appreciate the pre-baked pizza bottoms, and actually had one very delicious pizza yesterday. Sorry if the Swedish is difficult 😉

But -- wait! I thought you lot were all about "shrimp on the barbie" and such....??
Yeah, after you cook the burgers, you then do the shrimp (actually large prawns, marinated in garlic) because they only take a minute or so. You then assemble the hamburger (pattie, lettuce, tomato, beetroot and pineapple) and have a couple of prawns on the side. These days, for those under 35, the beer is alcohol-free.

My real life is still a lot…but I will hopefully make someone here laugh tonight.

I know I’ll get the actual apples I ordered from Amazon’s Whole Foods grocery, but this made me 😂 hard tonight,

and I love that the Swedish call pizza crusts pizza bottoms!

Sending you all 🤗

I can't believe I've never thought of those little things when playing/practicing piano, like curving your fingers slightly, and not moving your wrists too much. So, a good exercise I've been working on is playing a five note chord, with your left hand using fingers 1, 3, and 5, and your right hand 2 and 4, respectively, and then reversing it on the next chord up, and just doing that for 15-20 minutes every day... it really helps!!

So, I was working from this morning when air raid sirens went off at our local Army base. After about a minute they were turned off, so I assume this was some sort of routine test. Still, it would have been nice to have had forewarning of the test in the local press and/or BBC.

Thought I've seen it all, but apparantly not...

Why is January so long?

It seems eternal.

I know that - logically - the month lasts only for 31 days, yet somehow, it always feels far longer; actually, to my mind, January always feels as though it is about six weeks long.
I usually find the come-down from Christmas & New Year makes January sail by more quickly, though I agree it seems to be dragging a bit this year. February is always rough, pretty much second January after you've just had first January, and the knowing you've got to get to at least mid-March before the first signs of spring will be in evidence :/

At least I'm starting to notice lighter mornings and evenings a bit now...

This dissonance between what is actual recorded time (of January, a month that is 31 days long, something that I sternly remind myself is also the case with several other months, where this dissonance does not occur), and felt time (I always feel as though January is at least six weeks long) is (or feels) especially pronounced this year, for some reason.

Lighter mornings......well, yes, but lighter - and lengthening - evenings, yes, most definitely.

I have begun to notice this (very welcome) development.

The mornings are most exciting, despite being more subtle, because they only reached their nadir on the 31st December, so it now feels like everything is going back in the right direction. I just hope the unusually cold weather doesn't knock spring back too much this year, it's a splendid time of year and I wouldn't like to see it truncated by a quick transition to another hothouse summer!

During grey winters, in particular, I seem to to develop a confusing circadian rhythm, to avoid in particular the grey mornings and grey days. Unfortunately the night are greyish too, but I don’t have to pay so much attention to it as don’t see so much of it, and as I am working anyway.
So it really doesn’t matter at that point.

The positive is that the cold are usually less when it’s grey. But white winters usually look better with snow and all. Regarding the energy prices at this time, which are pending from rocket high to much higher than usual, the grey and less cold are just a welcoming gift at this winter.

I am an academic. Next week I'll be chairing a meeting for our department about how we're going to handle ChatGBT and other forms of AI being passed off as student work. Many of our staff have put assignments set for students to ChatGBT, and it has returned answers are passable in almost all cases, and in some cases receive the highest grade. Interesting times. I was hoping I could retire before the proverbial AI excrement hit the fan, but alas no.
