Yes, bed is on my mind, too, and I have just put my electric blanket on.
A necessity at the moment. Especially since our thermostats rarely see anything above 16. Sigh. I remember the days I didn't have to ware a housecoat on top of my jumper and fingerless gloves to type.
One day perhaps our energy prices won't involve the sale of kidneys.

I never thought that I would say this, or think this, but, - and this also happened during the strictest lockdown period during Covid - but, I'm glad that Mother is no longer with us.

She loved heat and warmth and the bright light that heralds speing - thrilled to them, as do I - and her bedroom (indeed, the entire house, in those days) was always nice and warm, and toasty (carers used to comment on how much they used to love coming into such a warm house).

Keeping her nice and warm would have been a bit of a challenge.

February drawing to a close, daffodils in bloom, days lengthening, - and, better still, brightening (the quality of light has really improved markedly over the past week or so, when it is not overcast).

And the Sturt's Desert Peas

are blooming (not my picture).

Honestly, if these guys lived in England they would have been the subject of a children's book.

Blood oranges: It seems that their season is unusually short and truncated this year.

Most years, their season lasts until the end of March, or early April; already, some of the people who stock them have said that the season has finished, or, is finished.

Well, I just received some incredibly sad news that a classmate's father just passed away. While I don't know the exact cause, I think it was a form of cancer. Many of his family members work at the school in varying capacities, too. I hope he and his family receive all the support they deserve. This is just so sad. And in a senior class of 71 students (I know, it's small...), we are all so close to one another that such news has a very big impact. I think he is on all of our minds, both students and teachers alike, this morning.

It's making it hard to focus honestly, because I'm still trying to process this awful news... but we're all friends and we try to support each other, so I just want to offer anything I can for him and his family. But we should all give him some space for now, obviously.

And along with all the other stuff that I’m thinking about and that’s going on personally, it’s a bit too much for my little brain to try and process… I just need a little space I think, too. I hope tomorrow is a better day for all of us.

The snow forecast for next week?

Ouch.

Yes, I have been reading about that, and shivering in anticipation.

Just this morning, I had been mulling over - contemplating - discarding one (just one) of my (many) layers of clothing with a view to rendering this possible change permanent, at least, until autumn, (because, with the dawn of March, and the approach of spring, that glorious time of longer days, warmer days, brighter days), calendar and thermometer both seemed to announce in unison that the time for the daily donning of this many layers had passed.

And now, alas, you remind me, that no, while the calendar informs us that spring may have arrived, the thermometer reminds us that winter has yet to take leave of us.

Still in multiple layers here. The lack of heating isn’t encouraging the shedding of layers. Looking forward to the days when I can not have to wear so many layers!

Spring is NOT showing any signs here yet 🥶
Clearly Minus C˚ during nighttime and days are not a lot better. When Sun 🌞 is out I can feel a small premonition though. But usually beginning April will deliver best signs of spring. But if we’re lucky, within 2 weeks something might slowly happen.

Amen to that.

Daffodils are in bloom, the days are lengthening, (and getting warmer), the light quality is visibly improving, ramsons are coming into season (okay, blood oranges will no longer be available..), what is there not to like?
And... saw the tail end of the aurura the other night. Blood red sky - it must have freaked out people in earlier times.

Wow.

I had read about that, but cloud cover prevented me from being able to lay eyes on it.

Nevertheless, last week, the night sky afforded us the stunning spectacle of a crescent moon, with Jupiter and Venus offering (what appeared to be - with the naked eye, and also when viewed through my Leica binoculars) an astounding adjacent honour guard.
With so many layers I feel like I am wearing a spacesuit.
As am I.

The calendar may inform us that March has commenced, but, according to both the thermometer and the meteorologists in the BBC, winter is still lingering.

For now, the layers remain.

Commiserations.

I think that death (especially if it is not something with which you are familiar) - when it happens to someone in the family of a good school friend - can hit you especially hard when you are in those mid to late teen years.

Try to be kind to yourself and offer whatever support you can to one another. Small kindnesses are invaluable at such times.

Half of California is now out of drought for the first time since 2019 thanks to the recent stormy weather. More rainy weather is expected in the next week as well.

You can't truly appreciate wet weather until you've been starved of it for so long. I was not one to complain about the rain much growing up, but I will never complain about it again.

Same here—I mean the Southwest has been in a drought of some capacity since like 2004 I think... so it's always good when we get some well-deserved rain, which we just did today.

Well, that went better than I deserved...

I was getting ready to drive down to the Southern Highlands (about 45 km) to pick up my wife.
I needed to know where she was, so I rang her up for directions.
After a few minutes of waffle, I rather impatiently said "Don't worry about all that, just tell me where to go."
Instead of the reply I belatedly realised I was going to get, she told me the address.
