The confirmed death of customer service.

Not my experience. Even Xfinitys' customer service has improved, although it is still not great. Within the last few weeks I have had support from Apple (multiple issues), Sophos, Backblaze, Paradigm, Bloomberg, Collectorz, Axelgaard and these are just a few. In all cases the support was excellent.

Phoned the French bakery to ask them to put aside bread for me tomorrow.

Earlier this week, I had phoned the organic meat stall to prepare some shin on the bone for me, which I shall collect tomorrow.

A vegetable delivery is scheduled to occur early - not quite crack of dawn early, but early enough - tomorrow morning (from another market stall). They shall also deliver some fruit.

And just now, I have phoned the best organic stall to ask them to put aside a few boxes of their very own free range, organic eggs tomorrow. That, plus wild, new season's 'young' (fresh) garlic and spinach.

What on Earth has happened over the last few years that's made drivers so angry, impatient, entitled, just generally lousy?

Prompted by needing to drive to Oxford today, and while people in the South East region seem to always have been in more of a hurry in my experience, this is next level. It's also creeping into the South West, too (probably brought by all the Home Counties relocations?). If you're not consistently doing the speed limit +10% or more, apparently now you're a huge inconvenience? I wouldn't consider myself a particularly slow driver, either, just try to keep to the limit, or whatever is safe for the particular road I'm on, not drive by the seat of my pants 😕

I suspect that the social skills (i.e. getting along with the rest of the world) of quite a number of people may have deteriorated dramatically during the period of the pandemic, and that this is reflected in how some people conduct themsleves in public.

I’d disagree. I think it’s been like that for years. But when I drive down south it does remind me why I moved. It’s so much quieter and more peaceful in the countryside.

I think I have to come to the same conclusion, it's just amazing the extent to which people don't seem to give a monkeys anymore, and distressing to see even our previously peaceful Dorset roads become less and less so :(

I think I agree with scepticalscribe, I'm sure there's been all sorts going on for years, but it feels like people have gone completely feral in the last few, and it's more normal than exceptional now. I admit I've only been driving for a decade or so, so I don't have a huge frame of reference here, but I don't remember people being this bad 'before'. Tailgating, dangerous overtaking, general aggression, egregious speeding, all seem to be part and parcel of driving now... I'd also like to draw a distinction between South East ('down south') and South West (Proper country) ;)

In my area traffic is definitely much more congested and, yes, at the same time it seems that there is an increase in the number of drivers who are handling their vehicles aggressively and impatiently, disregarding safety and state/local road laws. A lot of drivers appear to be much more actually angry and reckless than I recall from say, ten years ago.

I love incense, and I love my smokeless burner.

My fatther loved lavender, - actually, he adored it - and used to buy both the essential oil - and the herb - in the farmers' market

Rose is also lovely.

The others are rather redolent of a certain tale in the Bible, now that I come to think of it.
For some reason I link lavender to the idea of cleanliness, which is just beautiful.

As for the other scents… well, I do admit that I use incense (either in the smokeless burner or my regular charcoal burner) when I perform my daily… liturgical private devotions, so to speak.

Regardless of the spirituality of it, the smells are just great especially in the morning when outside is still dark and quiet (minus the cats) surrounds me.

My father had (I must use it, for it is still here) a beautiful (porcelain) essential oil burner, an idea he introduced to his sister (my aunt who died last year), she also loved such things.

He used it to burn lavender oil, which he loved; I used it with citrus oils (lemongrass, lemon oil, orange oil, grapefruit, neroli, etc).

Now, you have given me food for thought, and an idea I must follow through.

I realized that on my new profile picture (which I just changed the background, nothing else), that the Memoji in the foreground is like a pixel too high, so there's like a minuscule amount (although still noticeable if you zoom in) of purple below the Memoji. I also just realized that the Memoji is a hair too small. Gosh dang it!

EDIT: Just fixed it

And you gave me the idea that I should purchase an essential oil burner. Any recommendation?

Get something beautiful that you appreciate and like (something that also works well - that design nirvana that is a fusion of form and function).

My father loved beautiful things - and had excellent taste, but, he died 18 years ago, and his oil burner - a lovely porcelain object, is at least a quarter of a century old.

Ask around: If memory serves, my father bought his - after considerable research, for, he loved the activity of researching such products, looking into price, aesthetics, form, function, materials it was made from, etc - anything from washing machines, to stereos, to.....essential oil burners.

Anyway, if memory serves, he eventually bought his in a small (but well stocked) health store, and regularly replenished the small candles, and the essential oils that were necessary for it to work well.

And I also always keep ready a bottle of… limoncello.
SS and I share a love of everything LEMON and in the warmer months I am able to buy a six-container box of Luigi's Italian Lemon Ice cups at my local store....loads of lovely lemony flavor and just the right balance between tartness and sweetness. I'm addicted to this stuff!

Once a year or so our local store features a lot of products around lemon/limoncello.... Lemon salad dressing, lemon cookies, lemon this and that....sometimes even remembering to use the proper Italian term Limoncello, and, yes, some years they've offered limoncello as a beverage in the bottle, too. We haven't yet had this year's limoncello promotion in the store, but it is something to which I always look forward. Should be happening pretty soon, actually, as it usually is in the spring.

I'm also addicted to and enjoy all year around the wonderful Maynard-Bassetts Sherbet Lemon hard candies that I get from Amazon which actually come across the Big Pond from the UK.... The candies are lemon all the way through, but the goodness and best part is in the insides, which again are just the right balance of tartness and sweetness.... I"m almost out of my current supply, need to order more soon from Amazon!

That is a really good idea to have an oil burner to seriously bring out the wonderful scents of essential oils. I need to check these out next tie at the natural foods store where I buy the Lemon essential oil. I do like the scent of lavender oil, too, but, oh, that lemon....for me that is the winner every time!

A crate of (lovely fresh) fruit and vegetables was delivered earlier this morning.

Among other things, it played host to aubergines, courgettes, red peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, garlic, carrots, onions, celery, spinach, herbs (thyme, rosemary, parsley, basil), chilli peppers, and some citrus fruit (lemons, oranges, grapefruit, limes), plus cooking apples.

Back from the farmers' market where eggs (free range, organic), chard, salad greens, more garlic, locally sourced honey (from a chap who has his own bee hives), olives, semi-sundried tomatoes, wild garlic pesto, and some shin bone meat (bone attached), were all purchased.

As was cheese: Gorgonzola, Blue cheese from goat's milk, Maasdamer goat's cheese, St Nectaire, Camembert Rustique, and some Mozzarella.

Bread was collected in the French bakery.

It's really good with home delivery at times - thing is they don't always have, or rans out of, what I ordered, and either exclude it or add something that is not exactly what I wanted. Especially when it comes to fresh veggies and fruits. I am also very picky about my greens and fruits ☺️
So the veggies or fruits are not often what I take on home deliveries. But rather the heavier and more bulkier stuff. Such as sugar to my Kombucha making, toilet paper etc.

My store of choice for veggies and fruits are not many minutes away with my city-friendly electric cycle.
