what's so special about the jetblack iPhone 7 for me?
one simple plain answer: grip!

Have owned every single iPhone starting 3GS and up.....this is the first and only iPhone ever made with such a phenomanal grip (out of the box).
Where the iPhone 6S and 7 (non jetblack color) feels like your holding a soapblock, this jetblack iPhone gives you this feeling it sticks to your hands (no sweaty hands :p).

I am using the jetblack iPhone for 4 days now (naked), no visible scratches.

Agree, I exchanged my MB for a JB for this reason. My MB as well as my 6S were slippery.

The high gloss finish looks pretty awesome too.

A bit oxymoronic since you can't really take advantage of the extra grip if you put it in a case. JB is the best color to rock naked because of this.
Oh trust me there are days where ill rock it without a case, just that I want to wait until the new wow factor is over

Everything. It looks absolutely stunning, like a deep, deep black, super shiny monolith from outer space. It feels amazing, not like metal, not like glass, but something inbetween. Very, very grippy, too. Jony Ive and his team have to use a different material for the next iPhone, because the jet black 7 is the final aluminium frontier, the best this material will ever look or feel.

I went with matte black because it's going to be in a case most of the time and I didn't care to wait for the jet black. Jet black does look nice though.

While I do think JB does look a bit better, it's not really enough of a reason for me. The grip on the other hand is everything. I hate how slippery the last few iterations of iPhone have been, which with a plus-size phone is really a killer.

Some people buy it simply because they like it. Some get it to show others it's the newest one. Everyone has their own reason and none are wrong. It doesn't matter what someone's reason was as long as they like it. Personally I didn't get it I got the regular black as I think that looks nicer. My wife has the rose gold. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes.

It does. I guess I was underwhelmed when I held it in my hand though. I'm perfectly happy with my matte black.

I could certainly appreciate how grippy it is compared to matte.

I'm gonna have it in this most of the time, so I'm not worried about it:

For me it's the fact it looks like a continuous surface from the screen to the side to the back. I still think the 4 was the best looking iPhone, although the silver band around the edge spoilt it a little. Maybe tomorrow I'll change my mind when my JB 7 arrives :D

I hope people notice and realise how rich I am ;)

Nothing. It's just how a bunch of rich people like to show off that they bought the newest and greatest iPhone. Its just about flaunting wealth, plain and simple.

It doesn't cost any more than any other iPhone of the same capacity, so I don't see how it's anymore of a status symbol than any other colour.

People are going for it because they think it looks cool, and it's the most unique (only glossy finish).

I went with the Jet Black 7+. I just ordered the other day so I have awhile. When the Jet Black was announced I wanted it, but then my opionion moved to the Matte Black. I figured resale value would be better and I would have a case on it. If I use a case at all, it is always an ultra-thin snap on case. Don't like bulky cases.

Then folks started saying the grip is amazing and I then decided to go with the iPhone Upgrade Program. So resale and normal wear/tear does not matter! Naked it is!

I think the JB 7 looks way nicer than the 4. The glass on the 4 didn't scratch very easily though, so maybe after a few months I'll change my tune.

I remember when the Gold color was high demand, that was only because it was a new color. Though why Jet Black?

You just answered your own question. Jet black is the new color, and has the most prominent advertising on the Apple website.

Next year, jet black will be gold of this year.

Besides the Jet Black color, which I like, the reason I didn't purchase it was due to the 128 GB of memory for a base model. Apple handled this well to intrigue the customer, if they wanted the latest color, it came with a price. 128 GB is way more than I require.

Love my Quad Lock, but only use it when I bike

Earlier in the year when the days are longer I was riding 4-7 times a week. It's less than that now that it's dark so much earlier. But either way, I don't care to constantly remove my phone from its case, so most of the time I just leave it.

Jet black = less slippery/more sexy.

Got the 256. More capacity is always good, especially with a 4K video camera in the device.
