Notification overhaul is really my only concern. Its not so much in the problem with how it was originally done, but now that so many things use the sad notification system, it could use some changes,

Option to turn off multi-tasking

Reply to text messages while in an app

Support for MobileMe Find My iPhone

Internet Tethering for US AT&T

Changing your icons, status bar, status bar icons, battery meter when charging, lock slider, font color, fonts, text message background, text message bubbles, UI colors.

option to turn off multi-tasking? for what? No CPU is running. Nothing is actually running in the background unless it's audio content like Pandora or something of the sort. You don't need to worry about that. It pretty much is always off, it just leaves where you were last on the application you want to switch to so you don't have to start it over.

In-App SMS API is included in OS 4.

In-App SMS is not the same as the ability to reply to texts from any app. In-App SMS means you will be able to send texts from the apps that add that feature like you can now with email. You will not be able to reply to texts from apps.

I still think it's a non issue with multitasking around. Just press "Reply", send your message, double-tap home button and resume to whatever you were occupied with.

SBSettings, Lockscreen

Still need a way to turn location on and off with only one menu.

Lockscreen is useless now.

Maybe they added these features to 4.0 and I just missed it?

i want a better notification system, then i will be content

Do you think it's possible this has not been adressed in 4.0 because apple are putting a notification LED on the new iphone? Won't help people with older hardware though.

thats how I understood it too, not as exciting as it first seems...I still prefer iRealSMS

If your talking about replying from in app, I agree, but if you mean the notification system, if your playing a game and you get a text, would you rather the notification scroll across the top or bottom of the screen without interrupting you, or pause your game to pop up that blue box?
1. Printing support
2. Redesigned Lock screen
Printing support is left to the printer manufacturer. Many of them have made free apps. I print from my iPhone to my epson printer all the time and it works wonderfully.

No I can wait for the SMS in-app replying and other stuff, its just the Find My iPhone feature that I can't wait for. One of the main reasons why I bought MobileMe was for that, also my mom has left her old phones at restaurants many times before, someone sees an iPhone on the table, they're taking it and not giving it back. I just can't risk losing my very expensive phone. If I lose my phone while this bug isn't fixed, then Apple better be giving me a new free iPhone, because that bug is their fault. Its both of their products. I also think it has something to do with that new location thing, where some apps would locate you from your nearest tower, instead of GPS. It needs fixing right away, or they might as well refund everyone who bought MobileMe, and remove the Find My iPhone feature. This is not acceptable.

I'm sorry but this one is completely on you! That was clearly posted in the known issues. Apple knows find my iphone doesn't work and they clearly told all the developers! You'll just have to wait for subsequent beta releases or maybe even the GM release.

You should be able to add an extra icon to your dock, with my iphone being jailbroken having 5 icons in the dock is much more convenient

I think then things would become a lot more uneven and cramped.

It would still be nice for the option to be there, and just drag in and out as you please. I had the five icon dock and I definitely wouldnt say it was too cramped.

Lockinfo, SBSettings and a halfway decent notification system.

Here's to 5.0!

It is possible that Apple has as-yet unannounced improvements to these areas in iPhone OS 4.0, since developers do not need a preview of purely cosmetic changes.

However, sadly, we always hope for "one more thing" and rarely see it.

I want a usefull home screen. This is available via jailbreak but i dont want to jailbreak. So give me this functionality , please.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

Multiple email signatures. Would be so easy but so helpful for people who have both work and personal accounts on their iPhone.

I think you will see AT&T push tethering especially if other carriers get the iPhone because everyone will offer it, why not it is pure profit for them all.

I think once more ppl move from AT&T to Verizon or Sprint whenever that day comes you will see AT&T get better because the iPhone is the most taxing phone on anyone's network, just look how many are out there and how much data goes thru it.

Completely agree. The notification system right now is just a mess. I can’t tell without reading the notification if I’m getting an SMS or push notification, and now apparently there will be local notifications to further complicate the system.

I do NOT like how pressing the home button twice was switched from activating the iPod to activating multitouch.

At least give me the option of bringing that back!

I'd like something like "Quickreply for SMS" which can be had on a jailbroken phone. I'd also like for the double-tap to show the iPod controls in addition to the recently accessed apps. Otherwise I'm pretty content with 4.0.

I will probably still jailbreak, since I want to run GBA and SNES emulators, which apple will almost definitely never allow through the app-store.

Again, this is what we really need. This is the feature that will truly make it a professional phone. Otherwise, at work, I have no way of getting files off my phone. Due to security reasons, the WiFi at work is really locked down. My phone can't access it, basically turning my iPhone into a dumbphone. If someone asks for a file on my phone, I can't give it to them. I could use 3G to email the file to them, but AT&T blows and I don't get service where I work.
Of course you can't give it to someone else. They locked the wifi down for a very good reason which is the same reason why you probably are not allowed to put files on mobile devices like the iPhone. It is not uncommon for companies to forbid their employees to copy files to things like notebooks, usb sticks, smartphones, etc. due to security reasons. They simply want to keep certain information secret.

However, there are companies that actually use things like a smartphone so people can work or read documents while on the road. Very useful if an engineer can access his email and things like manuals and other documentation or even write them (documentation is an important thing!). For such use it is indeed necessary to be able to put files on the iPhone and have the ability to edit and save them. Iirc the files you create/edit are stored inside the app. With OS 4 you can open it in another app but upon saving you'll probably create another copy of the file. I'd rather have something more centralised, centralised storage which all applications can access. It makes editting, saving, uploading, downloading, etc. a lot easier. If someone could test if this is really the case it would be very helpful!
