Native exe and ntfs support without an emulator like parallels would be nice.

1) NTFS Write Support

2) A faster GUI. This OpenGL acceleration they have sucks compared to Direct X just because its alot slower. Their are still windows that are laggy while resizing.

AFAIK, Microsoft spread this myth, SGI disproved it. My OS X gui is smooth as butter & efficient. What's not working for you?

Btw I have a PC that was sluggish with Windows (gone now) that graphically performs very well with Linux Compiz.

1. NTFS-write support.
2. Windows-like gaming capabilities.
3. Flawless HD content (MKVs, 720p and 1080p) playback.

* No, I don't want a PC, I'd really rather having a Mac. But right now, I don't think I can go for one. I'm not being baised, by all means.

3. Flawless HD content (MKVs, 720p and 1080p) playback.

1) OSX does play 1080p and MKV. You'll need a codec for MKV.

2) MKV has nothing to do with the video quality. It's a container. And it's not supported by most devices, while MP4, MOV, and AVI are, and the few extra features it brings are not worth the headache. People need to stop encoding things in MKV because they won't play on any of my devices except my Mac and it annoys the crap out of me when I unrar a downlaoded file only to find a frickin MKV.

I have a strange feeling we've been over this before. I believe the biggest issue is the lack of GPU accelerated video playback for the majority of Macs under OS X but the availability of it under other operating systems.

I've been waiting for it under OS X since 2005.

It's been discussed ad nauseam that the Mac is no different than any other platform for games. Albeit the video cards are typically lacking on the Mac side, that is for the same reason that games don't run that well on them. Otherwise, the Mac OS is perfectly capable of running games if it were only given the same opportunities as Windows.

ATI and nVidia have nearly dozens of manufacturers that make cards with their chipsets for Windows. That competition drives the cost of the cards down. For Macs, there is either one or the other, and they have to be specifically made/flashed to support them and that's why they can cost several hundred dollars. The reason for that is because gaming demand isn't that big for the OS as games aren't that great on it in the first place. The reason for that is because very few games are actually made for the Mac OS. They are made from the ground up for Windows (or by using other game engines and code that were made originally for Windows), and then ported to the Mac. The reason for that is because big game budgets can run in the tens of millions of which they won't profit much on the Mac platform so it's not worth it for developers to put that much money, and therefore effort, into the Mac version.

However, if you look at a developer like Blizzard, the same game will run just as well on Windows as they do on the Mac OS. Whereas normally, you can have the exact same Mac running BootCamp, and a game will typically run far better on the Windows side for that same reason.

If the money was out there, developers would surely spend the time and effort required to make a Mac game that would far better than they currently do.

Some porting methods are becoming better. I've heard Cider ports are getting better as time goes on, and we can only hope that they get better in the future.

I don't know if this has been said, but being able to stop the creation of .ds_store files in UBS key drives would be fantastic. So annoying when I have to transfer files between macs and PCs.

Conversely on the Windows front, I would love to see the removal of thumbs.db...

All OSs have their quirks on portable storage.

Might not Apple come up with a system where removable media leave "cookies" on a host computer? Rather than have a .ds_store file on the drive, the OS finds some unique identifier, polls its internal database then uses that to display the info that was stored in .ds_store? Or is there nothing on a thumb drive that could be used as an identifier? If not, the OS could nag the user to give the drive a name, couldn't it?

Just some thoughts ...

Apple really needs to work on Finder and file transfers...

I would agree with the cut/paste of files and folders in Finder, plus I really miss the Tree View you get in Windows Explorer. The icons are often quite helpful but after a while you want to know exactly which files you have, where they are, what size they are, etc. GetInfo just does not replace that.

However, so many things are so much easier with Mac OS compared to Windows. The main one being the Backup. Add an external disk, a few clicks on Time Machine and it backs up. SuperDuper! is much better still, but Time Machine comes with Mac OS and works so well and so easily. Not found anything in Windows to compare with that, which means even my Windows7 system is not getting backed up often enough - a shame really with any MS system as they really need to be backed up frequently.

I forgot to add - dmg files and Application installs. These are so much easier to use than Windows App installs.

But it is a single pane where MS Explorer, or Rage Explorer, have a pane for folders and a pane for everything in that folder. It is a combination of the column and list views in one window.

This has come up a few times, but I don't get it since Finder has a tree view with arrows instead of +/- emblems.

I'm confused too

There is a list view with arrows, there is the column view, standard icon view and coverflow. What other view is needed? Aren't all bases covered in that respect?

What other types of view are there?

Also, most of the "wants" that most posters are complaining about can easily be solved by Automator. Batch renaming, looking for duplicates, etc...
Others can be solved by third party apps or terminal commands (folder merging). Of course that implementation by Apple in their OS would be nice, there is almost always solutions for them.

What I would really like is for Apple to try and push more with OpenCL, iphone and ipod touch are responsible for most of the industry support, but we haven't seen much support on the mac side of things.

Where is my hardware accelerated applications? (I'm looking at you adobe!)
