I use a North Face Hot Shot backpack with a Booq PowerSleeve. That way I can always take out the sleeve if I am going to leave my computer at home and have that extra room.

heres the link.. http://www.ebags.com/eastpak/provider/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=58367

My one of those arrived today :) Seems ok so far, but smaller than i thought it would be! However, it should be able to hold a lot more than normal laptop bags, and as you say, it doesn't look like a laptop bag.

Same here iHeartTheApple. Got the bitolithic sleeve to much dismay. Worst of all it looked nothing like what was up on the site! I knew the moment I had clicked on the Purchase option, there was something wrong! hmmm..who'd have gone ahead and bought a navy blue sleeve for a black MacBook?! and what I'm staring at right now(read: my MB in the sleeve) is definitely not a pretty picture!

I am desperately looking for a backpack for the MB now. The only thing that looked exciting enough was the OuttaWhack Day Pack that Tastannin posted about. Hmmmm...any thoughts on this one?!

Sorry to hear that you are not happy with the Bitolithic sleeves either. :( It's unfortunate because I really did like the idea of the blue/orange with my white macbook. Oh well, such is life I guess...Anyway, check out the STM sleeves and bags. I think they're really great! I was thinking of a Crumpler Salary Sacrifice backpack, but there is simply not enough room for my textbooks *and* a lappy. It's a pretty sexy bag tho...

You can't go wrong with Crumpler products.

I have a sleeve and a backpack.
The padding and protection they offer is awesome.

I live on a scooter, come sun, wind and rain (and in Cape Town all three are hectic) and I know my pbook is well padded, protected and waterproof, even if I am not.

I've got a Crumpler backpack for my PowerBook and my camera equipment and it has been known to fall some and I never worry because everything is protected. I looked at nearly every brand out there. Crumpler products are expensive but compared to backpacks of similar capabilities and price, it was superior.

buy from an acctual shop not online, you never really know what material is going to feel nasty what'll be strong what will be weak and what you trust to protect your macbook if you happen to drop your bag.

i just walked into blue room (skate shop near marble arch in london) tried a few and bought a nice fenchurch back with a really trippy looking design, i'd post a pic of it but online pics do not do it justice.

I thought the OuttaWhack kicks more a**! And I'd just feel plain ol' ****** if I were to buy another sleeve 2 weeks after I got the bitolithic! sigh! need an excuse to get another one! prob get my dog to rip this one off..hmmm now there's a thought!

The thing is Hector..out here in India, there's absolutely no way I can get any sleeves/backpacks for the MB. The mB's not even released out here.. forget that- no one actually knows what a sleeve is! pffft.

Guys, I am still all confused o'er which backpack to get!!

reload baggage out of Philadelphia, U.S.A.

They'll sew a sleeve to your laptop's specifications and you can pick the colors for fabric and thread. Plus, they're tough like iron.

You can pick out a bag while you're on their site and they'll build to order (and even sew your own design for a fee). The bags were designed for working messengers so they are made to withstand the elements and an 8 hour workday. They're perfect for protecting a new laptop.

True, true...I don't know how nice it would look with a BlackBook, but I'll tell you, it doesn't look much better with a white one! I think that the crumpler bags are dead sexy and they seem to be put together well; however, when it comes right down to it, I would prefer extra room to extra sexiness. In my experience, the Crumpler backpacks (in the Salary Sacrifice line, at least) seem to only fit a laptop and a few smallish books. They won't fit a large math/physics/engineering text because of the way the front is so curvy.

If you're not into the STM backpacks, may I suggest looking at Targus? I've had one of their 16" Sport Deluxe backpacks for near on 4 years now the thing is still rock-solid. It has a very nice padding system on the back so that it sits flat on your body and it has a rigid, plate of material protecting the laptop compartment from the back. They're not made especially with Macs in mind like some of the other companies, but the backpacks are high quality and will get the job done, for sure! Plus, the Sport Deluxe has epic amounts of storage space...:D

Good luck with your decision! :)

I found the Crumpler Salary Sacrifice for $89.99 here http://www.bikewagon.com/index.php?cPath=71&page=2

I had ordered an STM Evolution small size that just became available, but I didn't like the putty grey color nylon with fancy texture, plus orange stitching and interior. Looks really ugly to me, and too hi-tech/sci-fi. The Crumpler will look way more fresh on my back when I'm riding my bike around Brooklyn!

brenthaven trek vs stm evolution vs swissgear maxxum

I am going back to grad school, prepared with a 13" MB. Want a good workhorse backpack so that in case I haul a couple of textbooks as well, I have the necessary support/protection for my back as well as the laptop. Although I try not to load things down, I expect usually to have at least class notes + 1 textbook+light lunch for example, and an average walk to get anywhere on campus is 10-15 minutes.

I tried on the Brenthaven Trek and STM evolution at the Apple store, liked both of them very much. I liked the extra space+compartment and better materials of the Brenthaven, but liked the waist strap of the STM, which the Brenthaven doesn't have. Also, the MB seemed to fit better in the Trek. Do people have experience with these two? Does the lack of waist strap on the Brenthaven make it the worse choice for my back/shoulders/neck?

I also see great reviews for the Swiss Gear Maxxum, which I haven't been able to try on yet. It sounds as capable as the Brenthaven, but is significantly cheaper, anybody know why?

Thanks, your help is much appreciated...

Tough question.

I fell in love with the Booq Vyper XS3 Sleeve - way cool, durable, and great protection. I haven't fallen in love with any bag though I have tried several out. If you get the sleeve, you can more or less get any bag you want. I would still get the sleeve for added protection against other things in the pack.

Study hard.

Going to college; and i want something i can throw my laptop and books in; but i want the laptop to be properly protected....

What are your suggestions?

THANKS!

I got the swissgear Carbon II. Google it for best price (although it does sell for more at my local Apple Store).

Great bag, very thick/sturdy/strong nylon, not thin or cheap. Will hold up to a lot of use.

FWIW.

Anything brenthaven. They manufacture superior products. You may pay more, but no other company can match brenthaven's durability and protection. I've had my backpack for almost three years and, beside a few stains, looks brand new!

Good luck and congratulations on college.

backpack for 13" macbook

what seems to be the biggest challenge is finding a backpack designed specifically for a 13" macbook - eliminating the additional space that the "fits 13 inch to 17 inch" type backpacks create. i don't need/want all that extra space, mainly because i'll pack it full of crap. i'm trying to get something small/lightweight to keep a compact state of mind.

i've narrowed it down to the following two, the STM Evolution and the STM Rogue:

http://www.altrec.com/stm-bags/evol...cm_sp=Baynote-_-DetailB-_-DetailPageAlsoWantA

and

http://www.altrec.com/stm-bags/rogue-laptop-backpack-13-in-15-in-17-in?sku_id=814262

for which you can buy specifically at the size needed.

if anyone has any other recommendations, i'm anxious to hear! the Rogue is a bit heavy at 2.9lbs, but hopefully equally as durable.
