What's the coolest thing you've done with your Jailbroken iPhone.

The coolest thing done requires jailbreak. If Steve had his way, there wouldn't be too many cool things, except buying from the app & mac store and putting more money in his pockets.

the coolest thing I'm about to do on xmas does require a jailbreak.

I got my parents a ipod touch for xmas.

I'm going to surprise them and tell them to go on facetime to see the grandkids. We'll be doing the video from right in front of their house. Surprise trip from FL to NY.

kept the dogs busy howling at my iPhone 4 while using Talkin Tom Cat, they had no idea where the barking was coming from, even after I put my iPhone next to them, it was one of those moments I wish I had recorded it.

- Driving my motorbike under the sun and listening to the current NHL game happening on the other side of the world on the radio through 3G.

- The headset on the motorbike makes my life 100x easier. Easy to take a call, just love it

- Finding my way in the small alleys in Beijing, Hanoi, Saigon, Bangkok, etc. Thanks to google map and the gps. Just saved a ton of $$ on a gps and maps for all asia.

Guess I don't understand what part the iPhone plays. Since you also needed the DSLR and a netbook, wasn't that enough?

Well, I guess I should have explained a little more. My DSLR doesnt have the capability to do intervaled shots. Connecting the dslr to the iphone let me set up hundreds of 30 second exposures that were only seperated by a second. Without the phone, even though I had the netbook and the camera, I couldn't make these shots without an intervalometer. Basically, the phone became a super intervalometer.

Also, since it was networked wirelessly, it allowed me to setup the tripod outside (where it was far below freezing) and sit inside. While the camera took the shots, the iphone in my lap displayed them. That way I could cycle through the photos in order, zoom in, check focus, and make sure that I was getting the shots I wanted without having to get really really cold. Without the phone displaying the pics, I would have been sitting outside on a little stool anxiosuly analyzing pics on the back of my camera for half a second every 30 seconds (if I could have somehow rigged the camera to take the pictures without an intervalometer). Not sure if that made sense!

That's actually pretty cool! Would you mind explaining the app you're using or whatever is required, I have a Nikon D60 and wouldn't mind trying it out :D

Er, you can close backgrounded apps on Android if you choose to. Why do you think that opened apps are stuck open forever?

congratulation captain obvious where did I say you couldn't?

And yes, I can open 'over 60 apps' on my Android phone because it automatically kills previously opened apps to free up RAM. (Yes, Android has smart multitasking like any other mobile OS) Not sure why I would want to but yeah. Why do you think there's an 'app limit' on Android devices?

When you run multiple apps at once does your Android phone does it slow down? It doesn't slow down on my iPhone, I've seen it happen on Android phones before. IMO there's no reason for an app to run in the background until we get better battery life.

And my Android phone gets similar battery life than my iPhone4 (one day of heavy usage).

I said most Android phones have poor battery life, I never said all Android phones had bad battery life.

Somebody's been feeding you bad information. Or maybe you're just a troll. idk.

Maybe you should take some reading comprehension classes.

Used it as a spy tool to record my gf having sex with another man.

Posted it on all major porn sites.

win.

Not a Captain Obvious moment. Lern2meme.

...why do you Want a game that you're not playing running in the background.

Then close it if you don't want it running in the background. You imply that the game MUST be run in the background.

When you run multiple apps at once does your Android phone does it slow down?

Yes.

It doesn't slow down on my iPhone,

It does on both my iPhone4s and both my iPads.

I've seen it happen on Android phones before.

That's because it does happen (lag), just like iOS.

IMO there's no reason for an app to run in the background until we get better battery life.

I get fine battery life with multiple apps backgrounded.

I said most Android phones have poor battery life, I never said all Android phones had bad battery life.

Which ones?

Maybe you should take some reading comprehension classes.

Okay then. Not sure what I was unable to comprehend, but okay, thanks for the suggestion.

coolest things Ive done are prob:

deposit a check with my phone

tether my 3G connection to my comp when theres no wireless around

play poker from my iphone using teamviewer

steam on justin.tv to someone

Went without a primary computer for about a year.

Not kidding, before I bought my MacBook Pro in June of 2010, I went without having a primary computer for a year. My wife has a Sony Vaio that I would use for the occasional thing that my iPhone couldn't do, and I had a 7 year old Compaq desktop PC that's hooked up as an HTPC. So I either had to use the TV as my monitor, or borrow my wife's laptop when I wanted to use a computer. Most of the time I just opted to use my iPhone 3G instead.

Recently, just made my first mortgage payment via online banking.

You missed: deposited a check with the built in camera. ;)

I'll probably be getting a Chase account very soon and I look forward to doing this. The convenience is remarkable.

Neat thread, some of the stuff people have posted I never knew the iPhone could do..:apple:

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPad; U; CPU OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

Jailbroke it, and turned it into a wireless hotspot for my iPad, so I don't have to pay AT&T for another data plan that I don't need.

#1..moved into new apt and phone co. could NOT get me a landline for 3 weeks,so went to AT&T and got a cell phone(iPhone now) and told Suddenlink to KMA.
#2..sitting in a car wash and I heard that a horserace was starting(ESPN radio) so logged on to TVG placed a bet, listened to the race, lost $$$,all under the closed-in carwash which knocked my sat radio offline.

Ok, now that is a cool use of an iPhone. I stand corrected.

Set up an internet webcam at home. I can check on the dog during the day to be sure she is okay. I can control the pan / tilt / zoom of the camera from my iPhone.
