Don't get it at all; I took my 17 year old baby bro to the mall a few weeks back and he spent $80 on a pair of jeans that look like they cut off his circulation! Why oh why do people feel the need to sacrifice comfort in the name of looking 'cool', 'dope', etc.???

For the record I never got the whole saggy jeans, show your tiddy whities thing either. I just turned 30, am I that far out of the loop?

Uh.....what?

They are the norm. Around 6 months ago, I went to buy a pair of jeans, and over the selection were skinny jeans. That left a few straight legand bootcut styles, and I didn't like them.

Instead, I went for a pair of brown corduroys --- boot cut. They're narrow, but not skin tight or anything.

Not according to some of the respondents in this thread... And i didn't mean it like that... I meant that they aren't popular among everybody in the US or the world.

I don't mind how people look in tight pants. Does seem kind of uncomfortable, though. When it comes down to it, anything looks better than that awful baggy pants trend of years back. I think we can all agree on this.

reminds me of this drawing

I am a white guy that isn't afraid to confront a group of brothas for showing ass cleavage.

I don't want to make an assumptions but the wording used here worries me slightly.

Personally, I sometimes enjoy wearing skinny jeans. I like the look of big boots with tight jeans. My girlfriend likes how they look on me. If both of us are happy then it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

I carry a bag so it doesn't matter that my phone or wallet doesn't fit in the pockets. Also, I own a few fair of women's jeans because I liked how they looked. Why does it matter? The only difference is that the button does up the opposite way.

I don't really understand why is annoys so many of you. Surely there are more important things to worry about.

What worries you about what I said? Don't worry man, you live too far away for me to call you out in public and plus you don't wear baggy pants. I only call them out when the pants are baggy and I can see a good portion of their boxers. Thats just low class, pun intended. :D

Well as long as you are fine wearing ladies jeans. It would be a tad embarrassing for me..

So how did this trend start? The first guys I saw wearing tight pants/jeans was the Jonas bros.

On another note seems WSJ took some interest in this topic: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124683780090998061.html

It just seemed like you were on a fairly thin line between sounding jokey and sounding racist with the 'bruthas' wording.

The style has been around for years in the alternative scene. Rock stars from the 70s and 80s wore skinny jeans. Think about the punk and post-punk bands. It's also big in the goth scene. These are people that probably won't be following the trends of the Jonas brothers.

Those of us old enough remember as teenagers in the 70s wearing cut off jean shorts so small that we were wearing almost nothing (boys as well as girls (theirs were called "Daisy Dukes")).

They're called "skinny jeans" I wear them, but I'm kind of a punk skater type of person...

Are you a punk/skater or a punk/skater 'type'? :D

Back in my day (yeah I'm old enough to say that phrase now!) us punk/skaters wore a lot of 'skinny' jeans, but not when we skated. Looser the better for actual skating.

Haha....you remind me of Venice, and Santa monica, CA with old skaters like Tony Alva,

Naw I wear them when I skate or do BMX..... somehow I feel more flexible to do tricks.... I ain't a "poser"

I do extreme sports.... Gets the adrenaline pupping...:D

Well it isn't racist to say a lot of black (youth) started and continue the trend of baggy jeans. I live in a city with a lot of blacks so demographically it's accurate for me as well. A racist comment would be something that is hatred toward the black race. Here are some black facts that are not racist.

Black people love chicken. Don't ever try and steal a black man chicken or mine for that matter.
Black people do not all like watermelon.
A southern black woman that knows how to cook can cook better than anyone in the world.

Some stereotypes are true whether we like them or not.

Did you know latins have very bad tempers. Ask my wife. :)

Edit: also black people found the fountain of youth years ago. They don't age. Ask Eddie Murphy. He's been 35 for 20 years. This is again fact. One day they may decide to share with us white people I hope. Until then, enjoy aging. :)

I think you're having a tough time catching your own somewhat off putting comments. Kinda like your slight at gays in your first post in this thread.

What slight at gays? I think if you were black or gay, you would not be offended. I grew up in a city with a decent gay population. It was normal to see gay guys wearing really tight pants. I have had gay and black friends. All I was saying is that if your not gay and your wearing tight pants, it's confusing for some of us, and maybe some gays too. Ever been a gay man and hit on a straight guy or been a straight guy that's been hit on by a gay man, it can be awkward. Believe me, most gays will not be offended by my comments. :) of course there will always be someone somewhere that finds something to be offended at. I just have never had that problem in my relationships with minorities including my own Latin wife.....who does in fact have a bad temper mind you.

Well I am gay. So you're assumptions based on my sexuality don't go unnoticed. Quit assuming things based on stereotypes.

It's just as normal, if not more common to see straight guys wearing tight pants.

Tell me about it. Straight hipsters are always stealing gay culture and get pissed off or confused when you ask them, out.
Believe me, most gays will not be offended by my comments. :)
I'm glad you know us so well.

I can see that I'm really just stirring the pot now, so I'll drop it.

Well the only reason I assumed you were not gay was that my comments about tight pants was more geared towards straight guys. When you responded to it, I thought you were straight. Gay guys have been wearing tight pants for years. That I'm used to. It's kind of weird to see so many young men wearing them and more so skin tight to the ankles.

I'm glad you didn't get too offended by my comments. I never meant to imply being homosexual as a bad thing. I just think it's bad to look like anything your not. A good example is your case of hitting on straight guys.

Btw, what happened to your gadar dude? Your supposed to just magically know. :)

I prefer jeans that fit. They can't be too loose but those super tight skinny jeans don't work either; skin tight or too baggy both look terrible.

Don't even get me started on jeans that come with holes already in them. I hate those things.

Oh yeah! I hated that trend with everything looking pre worn or used. I once asked if I could get a discount on something because it looked worned, only to be told it was the style. American Eagle used to be one of my favorite stores but the last few years the store has been full of this stuff.

@TuffLuffJimmy: wow that is stupid! Sounds like Barney on how I met your mother. Lol! Although I have always wondered about these ladies that are straight, but feel the need to ONLY hang out with gay guys. Yet they are the first to complain about being single.

Yep.... but ....

Personally, my favorite jeans are "loose fit" (preferably with straight legs).
They're a little baggy, but not too long or too big a waist size, so falling down all the time....

Like some other people said here, I just want my clothing to be comfortable, and I like pockets I can easily stuff things like a set of car keys or a wallet in. (And in my experience, the loose fit jeans tend to have a little bit deeper pockets too, which is also a good thing.)

Most of us gays are not stupid enough to wear those things. You straight people have to own this one. :D It's mostly straight, wanna-be rocker poseurs and skaters who wear those things. :)

That's what I've found. None of my gay friends wear pants like that, but the sample size is only two as of right now, so its not exactly reliable evidence.

I definitely have some snugger fitting pairs of jeans, but nothing too tight. Bathing suits, on the other hand, well, I like those to be fairly tight. ;)

Ohhhh you guyyyys! Ahaha! Well down in Florida where I grew up gay guys tended to go more towards then tighter stuff. My wife grew up in Peru so maybe things are different there.

On a side not, I wonder if these guys wearing tight pants will start wearing thongs so their underwear doesn't make their butt look funny. :D At some point, I think some of these guys will be looking at themselves in the mirror, with their fresh new skin tight pants, fresh new thong, and realize this is no longer a fashion choice but a life style choice. :)

But that's Florida. It's cheesy there. :)

And I think you're right about the lifestyle choice. ;)
