I switched because I was tired of scrapping together a workable computer. Now IF it breaks, which is hard to come by, I just bring it to the apple store and they fix it. And the more apple products you own, the easier they work with the computer.

I first noticed the Mac not because of it's design (wasn't much of a fan of square plastic in 2006), but because I initially started dabbling in OSX86 on my old Dell laptop. Needless to say, thousands of dollars and some great machines later, I have a Mac Pro. I have to admit, if I could go back, I would take the hackintosh route every time. Not because of the hassle or frustration it caused, but because it really forces you to know the OS inside and out, or at least it used to before it became a process involving the push of a button. It taught me how to appreciate the money I was spending instead of having my mom buy me a shiny laptop.

Had to use them at college when studying graphic design. Didnt like them much at the time but got used to it. They have improved so much.

First, it was the games on this beauty:

Oregon Trail, Math Blasters ... It was incredible.

Then, it was the beautiful simplicity of the OS on this:

And Finally, Once I met this beautiful lady ... I was Mac for life:

What made me buy my first Apple computer? My 2G iPhone did back in june 2007. I was so impressed with the iPhone that I bought a $2000 MBP a week later.

For me growing up we had a dos rig 286 running dos 4 or 5 i can't remember. When i was in 3rd year primary school we had apples in the class i think a mac plus or classic etc. But i was amazed at the GUI these things had even though they were in black and white they looked awesome.

Oh and the fact its virus / spyware free. Over the years since 1999 i have either bought / acquired

1. Se/30
2. Quadra 605
3. LC II ( i think)
4. Mac Mini PPC G4
5. Macbook Black
6. Powerbook G4
7. Macbook Pro 15inch 2008

I was hooked 10 minutes after sitting down in front of a Mac SE and LaserWriter. Popped open MacWrite and was amazed. Never owned a PC (except work issues laptops).

Well first it was the "oooh... shiny", then it was the fact that Macs don't get viruses, then I fell in love with the OS and its simplicity, and then I bought my own Mac. :)

My first Apple product was an iPod Photo 60Gb, in 2005.

I lost my (wonderful) 20Gb iRiver player on a drunken night out, and needed a replacement. The iPod was on sale for a good price at Heathrow airport, so I bought one before departing on a trip.

So it was all about price and capacity. The user interface on the iRiver was better (I could operate it 'blind' while it was in my pocket, and it also came with a remote with an illuminated LCD display), but I got used to the iPod system. Now that I own DRM music purchased from the iTunes Store, I continue to use iPods.

For me it was.. I got my macbook free from college : ) Once I started using OSX 2 months ago I absolutely loved it. I will never go back to a Windows computer. I mean.. I may install it in bootcamp, but I don't see the need. I game on my Xbox 360 console, and I use my macbook for school, writing, browsing, facebook ahah, itunes, iphoto, video conferencing for my online based college, and warcraft 3 .. ahha But thats it. Diablo 3 when it comes out.
This is coming from a guy who's been using computers for over a decade, I used to run a BBS system and then telnetted a node when the internet caught on in the late 90's. I'm not like hella old school, but I did start using pc's with a 9600 baud modem! ahah I used the old mac2gs's and stuff in school , and ClarisWorks etc.. LOL
Really though since I got my macbook 2 months ago.. it feels right. Windows based computers you have to buy, download and do too many things to them to get them to work the way you want. Installing applications and games on OSX is so simple I could train a dog to do it.

Then there's the beauty of getting into some BASH and light Unix if you want. You could use OSX and never really learn it, but it's there if you want. It seems like every day I am learning a new tip or tweak. From lsof -i to show what my ports are doing to holding 3 buttons on my keyboard to take a screenshot.

Even my wife was amazed with how fast her dad's printer was installed and printing. Connected the usb cable, and clicked like twice and it worked. Perfect.

Sorry about the novella type post! I just love macs now and wish I would have started on them in the firstplace!
:D

The lack of choice in Apple computers. If I were able to find an Apple computer entirely to my liking it would save me from wading through HPs and Dells in search of something reliable--that was the idea.

Many months before I got my MacBook Pro: The coolness of it. It was one of those products that you'd just love to have.

A few months later when it was time for me to buy a new notebook I was looking for the one that best suited my needs. Looked at all possible PCs but didn't find anyone I liked so decided to switch to Mac. Best decision I've ever made.

The simplicity and ease of use.

Using a Mac SE after using an IBM PC/XT was a huge change and transition. I could not get around the fact that there was no way for me to get to a command shell or how different the file systems were.

Moving on to the bondi blue iMac proved how cool apple products could be. Great looking, well functioning.

With OSX things only got better and I liked how I didn't have to worry about viruses and malware.

The user interface and its performance with graphics-intensive programs like those in the Adobe CS4 Master Collection. It irks me though when people assume I bought one just to be like the rest of the crowd or to make some sort of a statement.

I CAN'T WAIT to start my design classes. Still doing my generals. My academic supervisor said yesterday that he was fedexxing me my copies of PsCS4, Indesign, Illustrator, Flash, Dreamweaver and all that good stuff. I am way stoked. I am going to throw 4 gigs of ddr3 in here and a larger Hard drive. I've used photoshop alot before .. well on windows and know how large those image files get. I can't wait to see how it performs with Photoshop though, I have always heard good things about Apple computers and it.
:)

Work, basically.
Take yourself back to 1987 (if you were a living being at that point:rolleyes:). I was a messenger (gofer, runner, teaboy) for a newspaper. I was in the Production Manager's Secretary's office and there was a Macintosh sitting on the desk.
I looked at the mono, 8 inch screen. Then I looked at the laser printout of what was on the screen. "Hey!", I said, "The screen image is almost exactly the same as the printed image - that's so cool!". At that time 99.9% of all office 'VDUs' were green letters on a black background, with a sort of dot-matrix letterform. And most printers were dot-matrix as well.
Some weeks later I heard on the grapevine that they were going to be setting up a new department to typeset advertisements for the 'paper. I went straight to the Assistant Managing Director and told him I wanted to work in the 'Apple Mac' Department, as it was called. He said "leave it with me, I'll sort it out."
A couple of months later I started, been using them ever since.

Wysiwyg

Like the above post, the draw for me in 1985 was the screen display tech and WYSIWYG -- Mac 512e.

BUT... I hated the single-floppy design and all the disk swapping required to copy files to a new disk. Upgraded to 2 MB memory (had to solder a resistor on the motherboard myself) and added an external floppy as soon as the cash was available.

The stability and usability of Mac OS X, I first used it at a friends house and have loved it since.

First apple product was an ipod video, wanted the ability to watch the office on it :D
