Having intelligent conversations with people who were born after I graduated from high school.

Hearing all my favorite music on the classic rock channel.

I'm 40, but I certainly don't feel old. But I guess the first thing that really made me feel my mortality was getting arthritis in both knees at 35. It made me stop and realize that sooner or later, something's going to take me down.

And that's my happy thought for the day! :)

The realization that there will be people voting in the UK's next general election who weren't born when I graduated from university.

Drinking in a pub with a youthful work colleague and discovering that my leather jacket is older than he is.

Being stared at like I have just grown a second head when I mention that I remember loading software from audio cassette.

Cheers!

Jim

A couple things stand out (and for context I turn 23 in a few weeks).

When I turned 20, a friend said "congratulations, you're half way to 40!". I have since returned the favor to everyone I have come across on their 20th birthday.

Finding out a girl I *thought* was in middleschool, was actually a senior in highschool.

Finding out a girl I thought was in college, was actually 14, and feeling creeped out about my mistake.

(I have since stopped guessing at the ages of females)

"Next up on our show, we'll be playing the best of the 80's and 90's"
wtf, we aren't in the 90's? :(

But the one that made me realize my childhood was gone, was watching a little boy, probably 8 years old, in full run jump off a 4 foot wall and land in the grass, falling to his knees, and without pause gets up and keeps running. I've played sports all my life, and still play Soccer and Ultimate frisbee. I even mountain bike and snowboard on occasion.
But this kid obviously thought nothing of jumping off a wall taller than him and landing on his knees. I remember watching him and thinking "ouch, why didn't you run around it!" and yet I remember jumping off things for the fun of it. I knew a part of my childhood had been lost, right then and there :(

Usually the 10th anniversary of things gets to me ...

The 10th season of South Park, I definitely remember the first episode like it was yesterday and talking about how hilarious it was while riding around on bikes.

The 10th anniversary of Toy Story.

I can tell you what makes me feel young, being one of the youngest in my office, having some rank and making more than many of them.

I realize I'm getting older vicariously through witnessing other people age. The biggest example is probably my sister having two children in the past 3 years and how fast they've grow n in that time. That and the fact she turned 30 :)eek:) recently.

Inside I feel the same as I did 10 years ago. I'm 26 now.

I feel the same way about the Simpsons. I remember being in grade school and talking with my friends about how my mom wouldn't let me watch it. Now I'm in my 20s and collecting every season on DVD
