I've been on a consistent 3-year cycle since owning my first iPhone (3GS). I went from the 3GS --->5--->6S. I'll be looking to replace my 6S with whatever is introduced at the Fall 2018 Keynote.

My longest streak is 2 years and 2 months. My goal is to keep this 7 going for 3 years minimum, with 4 years being the ultimate goal.

Since fooooooorever hahah, literally had a break with owning a Samsung phone for no more than a week. I just keep coming back to iPhone, just something about the simplicity and functionality that makes it a winner daily driver. That and I'm a die hard Apple fan :D

I am perfectly fine with my 6S I got on launch. Also still running iOS 9.1 JBed. If something mind blowing comes out next month, I am in. If not, I will continue with what I've got as I do not feel the improvements are that necessary. This is coming from someone that upgraded every year on the launch date, but honestly I do not feel the 7 brought anything exciting to the table.

I am still using my iPhone 5s which I bought in 2013, so that's almost 4 years.

Before that, I had an iPhone 4 which I owned 3 years, than I handed it to my wife. Since a few months my father is using this iPhone 4 :)

I used my original iPhone 2G from launch until the 3GS came out, so just about 2 years. Since then I've upgraded every year.

Got the 4 at launch (2010) and the 6+ at launch (2014). So 4 years and 3 years. Will be getting the new 8 this year.

3GS: 1 year
4: 2 years
5: 3 years
Now have a 6S.

I see my cycle is getting longer. The main bottleneck nowadays is not the actual performance, but the limited life battery.

current with the iP6 purchased on launch day (2014). about ready to throw it out the window because the battery doesn't last 2-3hrs. will be getting the iPhone Pro/8/X/7s/edition.

Spent the longest time with my iPhone 4 (white). Held out for the 10 or so months from the reveal specifically for the white model. Replaced it with iPhone 5 18 months later and have upgraded annually ever since

3gs 4 years
5s approaching 4 years.

Definitely upgrading come Sept.
Pissed off with 16gb.
Battery is at abt 650 cycles. 50% capacity. Have to use an external battery pack to get me through the day.
Want the 8 but will be hard to justify the price so will likely go for a 7s or SE (like the smaller form factor)

Just over a year, between the release of the 4 and the 4S. That was when they switched from a June release to one in October. :) I've upgraded every year since the 3GS.

I would be using my old iPhone 6+ for 2,5 years, but about 17 months iPhone 6+ had some issues and did a warranty replacement with the carrier and they sent me a new iPhone 6S+, instead of a replacement of the same model.

Thanks to Verizon resetting our upgrades for my family plan, I've been getting phones pretty frequently. The longest I've kept a phone is probably my Note 3 and my iPhone 6+. Both were about 1.7 years. My 6s+ is going on 1 year and 3 months with the goal to keep it another year.

The fact that phones don't have subsidies anymore and they're more expensive... I'm going to be keeping this phone longer.

My wife's 6s+ was replaced this week because it dieded.

What's the story behind the 5S?!
It was too small. After my iPhone 4 was stolen I went over to android for a while and had a few of the galaxy note phones. I wanted to come back to iOS so tried the 5S but it was too small so I went back to the note 3 and waited until the 6 plus came out.

My current 7 Plus is the longest I've used an iPhone. I have had every iPhone except for the 4s but frequently cycle between current android and iPhone flagships and will sell off whichever device I'm not using. Got the S8+ this year but didn't sell the 7 Plus. Used the S8+ for a couple months and am back to the 7 Plus. Constantly switching phones has gotten kind of tiresome and for once I feel I've found a device I can hold onto for a while. iOS has matured to a point where I'm not missing many of the things from Android that I would have in the past when using the iPhone. The dual camera of the 7 Plus is something that I can't get with any other phone. I know android devices have dual cameras but none have reproduced the functionality of the iPhone's implementation. I'm even considering skipping the iPhone 8 or whatever it will be called and just buying the Apple Watch refresh whenever it is released.

Three years. The iPhone 4 was the perfect form factor.

When my current iPhone dies, I cannot wait to go back to it in the form of the SE.

The longest I have used a phone was one year with the 6s. I have a problem with swapping phones throughout the year (just this year I went from the 6s to 7 to 6s+ back to the 7).

But I usually upgrade my phone every year and sell the previous gen model.

My current iPhone 6+ has been the longest I have ever stuck with the same phone. I can't remember what month it came; maybe November. I just call it 3 years at this point considering it wont be replaced until the new phones are shipped.

There are a few key reasons I am choosing to upgrade this year.

  • 10th Anniversary
  • 1GB RAM causes slowness
  • Camera upgrade
  • Need another Pokemon Go device :)
The 6+ runs pretty great. The headphone jack stopped working coincidentally around the release of the iPhone 7 last year. It's just getting a bit slow; mostly from what seems like RAM-based tasks.

I've kept almost all of my previous iPhones to use as iTouch devices. This will be no different.

I am undecided on how long I will keep the next phone.

I'm still using my 4S which is now 5.5 years old :) I never liked the 6 / 6S design and so never found one that I could replace it with. Although I bought my Lady an SE and I think that it's amazing - great camera, lovely display - tinny sound speaker compared to the 4S though. It feels so thin to the 4S though - I prefer the feel of the 4S.
The 4S gets loads of use as I use it daily as my main music player & I stream HD surf video to my Apple TV on a night. The only thing that has worn is the battery - lasts 4 hours between charges. The SE does 5 days between charges INCREDIBLE!!!
The 4S has been an incredible phone. Well done to Apple for using top quality components. Sadly iOS8 & 9 have truly killed it speed wise. I loved iOS7 on it and much preferred the music app design of 7 which is simular to iOS10. Gutted that I can't run 10 as i really like the design.
I plan on getting the iPhone Pro / Edition 256GB so imagine the difference that i'm going to notice!!!
